Uhh, Tailia won one single round. She won round 3. Damage is #1 scoring criteria, and Valentina did more damage than her, even when Tailia was on her back. Simply having ground control is the absolute last scoring criteria.

Not exactly, Santos wasn't passing guard whenever she wanted and smashing Val on the ground. Val messed up on her takedowns and Santos caught that. But didn't do anything after it, just held her there. Val outstruck her on the ground and almost caught Santos with a submission of her own. You're not better on the ground when your on top and you get outstruck while you're in a dominant position. She had the high ground and was being outworked. That just shows she didn't really have good control over Val.

There were too many times in the fight where Santos, while she maintained top position, simply did not put herself in advantageous positions for effective grappling or effectiving striking. I had rounds 1,4, and 5 for Valentina according to the scoring system. It was a great fight, but If I'm being honest, I really don't think Santos even significantly hurt Shevchenko at all.

Wrong! Santos face and eye told a different story. The judges saw what was really happening in the fight in reference to take downs and strikes, not constant fail submission “Attempts.” You don’t get points for attempting submission. Valentina got more points for take downs and strikes on the feet and on the ground. That’s what you and many people are missing. Go back and really look at the fight. Even with Santos eye, it was damaged from Valentina punches on the ground before the accidental head but. Go look at the round before. When she went to the corner, they were working on the bad swelling before the head but in the next round. The head but just made it worse. Like or not, Valentina got a lot of points for those strikes on the ground and the feet along with several take downs even scrabble on top and took her back. Valentina was credited for many of the take downs. Tough fight but Valentina did overcome that adversity. That being said, I have nothing but enormous respect for Santos. That young lady is something serious. Props to her.

I agree with that statement, however taila is a tough women and gave her hardest victory yet. Taila is young and has a long career ahead. Champion put on a show from her back.

@@Hoosierdaddyjones812 Oh, don't get me wrong, like you say, this was her first big test and she performed extremely well under the pressure of a championship fight against a woman considered either the female GOAT or next best, so Taila did the best so far, by far against Valentina and was graceful in defeat which is extremely admirable and great to see, I think that in itself is a championship quality that she can use as just one foundation going forward to get herself back into a title shot. It's more those fans who are screaming robbery or just ignoring the facts of the fight that are getting on my nerves, not Taila herself who did everything she could and more.

Valentina won the championship Rds. 4 & 5, Santos won 2 & 3. Just depends how you saw Rd. 1 go tbh it was the closest round imo. The headbutt definitely changed the trajectory of the fight - either way a rematch should be made.

I think it should also be noted she had a damaged foot, serious by all accounts. I remember thinking at the time she wasn't throwing nearly as many leg strikes as she usually does, or spinning techniques and she still scraped a win.

It was close but not a robbery. Valentina turned it around in the last couple of rounds and could've carried on. Also the striking department. However one judge giving it 49-46 was total bs. Talia would've won if she executed a better 4th round. Shevchenko was lucky this time.

Neither are failed submission attempts. Val had more pressure, landed significantly more strikes, landed the same amount of takedowns. Literally the only category Santos won was submission attempts.. 3-1, she did not have convincing ground control, she was getting hit the entire time. Santos did not win.
