Well, how about defending democracy from Putin's orcs in Ukraine? This Ukrainian men supposed to fight Putin at home, but nevertheless, he wants to get to the USA to live on my taxes, well, selling our weapons to Ukraine is totally fine, in fact, it's great, it helps our economy, but spending our resources for charity when our economy is not in the best shape is a bad idea. We paid for the house with no assistance from any family. Sometimes you have to plan for a future that you didn’t know that you would have. People in Utah generally have large families. They need somewhere to put them. So if this family can help someone out then go for it!

They make some exceptions --- this father has two lovely young daughters so he was probably given a waiver for military service

There are exceptions for fathers of 3 and more. There was chaos in Ukraine, maybe he could get out because of this. However, they are in the US and can start a new life here. There are more than 5 Million Ukrainians in Europe, not all of them live now so comfortable. And over 30 Millions are still in Ukraine, many in the war zone. Those are the people we should focus on.
