Thank you. I was just writing up a response to him calling this a generator. I’m from the power quality industry for over thirty years, and people like him, those who don’t do their homework, really get on my nerves. This is a battery bank, plain and simple. I’m sure the people who sell this, would like to call it a generator because you can hook it up to a solar cell, but that still doesn’t make it a generator. It’s like APC all over again, calling a backups or a line Interactive backups a UPS. Because of them, a lot of people have bought the wrong item, and have given the rest of us a bad name. He also should have pointed out that a heater, a resistive load, will draw on those batteries differently than that of a a power supply etc. So if you put this on a heater, be prepared to only get 15 to 20% of time it indicates.

Agree. It is really just a battery pack - although the solar charger part is a legitmate electricity generator - though would not keep up any large electric usage (like powering your house - refrig, a/c. etc). I have car batteries hooked to a power inverter that can probably out perform this but I don't know the cost difference. Having an automatic car battery charger is easy to keep the batteries at 100% you also have ability to add more batteries(in parallel) to extend the battery "pack" life. As for mobility, this would be a little easier to move around than car batteries and an inverter. What do you bet that a lot of investors initially thought it was actually a "generator" that used some new technology -- like Telsa(original person) power from the atmosphere , etc.

Thank you, came to the comments to talk about how gullible people are. UPS are great, we use them in the network closet, and a whole home UPS can prevent power loss during intermittent blips.... but to compare it to a Honda generator? The uploader is a shill. @@cptcrogge A "normal" UPS? What the hell is a normal UPS? UPS's come in various sizes, we have one at our old data center that's the size of a small room. A normal UPS varies in size depending on application, and this is a "normal" large for household small for commercial use UPS, nothing new, been on the market for ages.
@cptcrogge
@cptcrogge 4 роки тому
@@BoopSnoot I sold and installed a dozen of UPS's, I'm fully aware of their functionality and purpose. The point is, a normal UPS is not made for "portable" use nor it typically runs for a long time. For example a APC 550VA UPS supports normally around 330W output. It will run with full load only 3 minutes and with a very small load (15W~) maybe 1 hour. The lead acid batteries which are typically used in a UPS are also somewhat dangerous, I'm not sure though what this "Power generator" (Yes it obviously isn't a generator) is using. Hence the device shown in the video is not a typical UPS, even if the basic functionality is identical. The device shown in the video is quite small and lightweight, considering the amount of power which it provides. Also all these USB ports and the possibility to charge it with solar panels in off-grid situation is quite useful. Just as mentioned earlier, the price is too high. You get a very good UPS for a similar price, it won't provide the same functionality out of the box though and will require some configuration (e.g. disable beep).

Both simply put convert an energy source - gas fossil fuel which is stored solar energy - or sunlight directly or electric that is produced from stored solar fossil fuels - into an electrical format you can use. These are best used in conjunction with a small gas generator, especially for people in apartments. You would use the gas generator to charge the UPS during the day and use the UPS at night. That way it would save a lot of gas and even the quiet generators are to loud to use at night if you live in an apartment. This is only meant to run small loads, LED lights, charge laptop, tv, charge cell phones etc. But this UPS is still too small, you'd want something with more battery capacity. I built my own with 2 6v deep cycle batteries wired in series with a 600watt inverter and a 1500watt inverter. It will power my TV, lights, laptop, cell phone, water pump, electric blanket and more all through the night. I could put the fridge on a timer and power it also.

These are the most common generators in the industry sector and are also those that present, in relation to the others, a superior energy transformation capacity, as well as the most efficient and diversified ones. Industrial companies usually use this type of generators. Solar generators: has the function of capturing solar energy, to transform it into electrical energy, so that we can use our equipment. Solar silicon plates are an example of a solar generator. Thermal generators: are generators that transform thermal energy into electricity. Directly convert energy from heat, using it to create energy. Chemical generators: are responsible for converting chemical energy into electrical energy to power different equipment. That is, these transform the energy that is generated in the different chemical reactions into electrical energy. Examples of this type of generators are the batteries. Usually, they are used in equipment with low power consumption. For example, TV commands, radios, clocks and other equipment we use regularly in our day to day. As you can see there are several types of electric current generators that are quite different, and that can convert solar, thermal, mechanical or chemical energy into electrical energy. In this way, reusable energy is obtained that will ensure the operation of the equipment that wants to keep active." Dictionary definition of "iniquitous". Look it up.

I am totally on board with solar and batteries(with additional circuitry) storing the electricity and changing it to 120 volts from 12/24 volts... but. I always try to think outside the box and still don't see a "generator". I really like where modern batteries are going. To me, the difference is a generator creates electricity and an battery stores electricity for later use. To me, a battery is what this is. A battery with some electronic circuits added into the same box. The circuits are the bells and whistles that add convenience. I love it but don't see it is "generating" electricity. It is storing and converting electricity. If this was hooked to a solar panel, the panel would be the generator which uses light as fuel. The panel would generate and send the electricity to this battery where it would be stored for later use. Everytime I see someone calling these "generators", I try to view it from their perspective but I still don't get it. Generators don't "store electricity, they produce it by physically moving "parts"? This is a storage device.

The distinction in the arguments seems to be hung up on the whole mechanical thing. The mechanical process in old style generators is needed due to the need to extract energy from carbon chains, I.e. gasoline, by using chemical conversion, I.e. combustion. Mechanical conversion is also used in driving turbines with heat or gravity in addition to the small explosions. You can also get electrons to move, I.e. be “generated” by other means, like photo electric effect. How you get 120/240V AC “generated” can be done in non-mechanical ways now, I think this is what is causing the confusion in the use of the term “generator”.

This is basically a battery bank with an oscillating wave function generator. The main reason most battery banks take so long to charge is because the battery cells give off different wave forms as they are in different charge states. So when the alternator sends the charge into the battery bank, the wave forms tend to fight eachother resulting in a weaker charge for the battery.

I've seen the "Generator " featured on van life video's. A big stretch on terminology. It's not a generator as it doesn't generate any thing ie mechanical energy into electric. It convert stored DC into AC via a sine wave inverter. They've had these for years, They're known as a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply). Normally used in conjunction computers and date equipment. Inadvertently they're great surge protection because it isolates the incoming line and if there's a power surge or flicker, your equipment doesn't crash. You just temporarily loose the charging and the utilities in coming AC is isolated from your equipment. Both the inside and outside tests balance the same (roughly 5 amps for 2 hrs or 10 amps for 1 hour) which is a 10 ampere/hour battery. That's kinda light when you can get a 100 amp/hour AGM battery. Good video though
@earthzero7
@earthzero7 4 роки тому
Except that if you have a couple of these in series and a few more solar panels, it could actually keep an emergency house load going for quite a long time. All a "generator" does is CONVERT the stored energy in the fuel that you feed it into useable electricity. Nothing "creates" matter or energy. When you’re burning that gas or diesel, you’re actually losing more energy than you would if you used this unit which Is ultra efficient in comparison. It’s at least a nice backup device when you can’t get to a source of gas to buy so you can constantly refuel a conventional generator.

@Davy Kroket maybe you should go back to school and learn where fossil fuel comes from and what is is actually. Fossil fuel is a form of stored energy that was created by the sun ..that big yellow bright thing in the sky. we dug up the fossil fuel out of the ground and then cleaved the molecules(big word i know) to "refine" that energy into usable things called calories(unit of energy). Then we convert that into things called watts.(another unit of energy). That is how we can figure out electron capacity and usage. Ok enough deep diving im getting the bends(that is from nitrogen...a gas and also an element). Basic science is this. Both are generators. Both convert a form of energy into another form of energy both store energy in a tank and both generate energy when a load is applied to the device. Technically BOTH are GENERATORS. BOTH consume and Both generate. I don't need luck I have science. Also, both fossil fuel and electrons stored in a cell are known as energy sinks (A molecule or a group in a molecule that is able easily to accept energy transferred to it from another component of the system) also known as energy storage. They are just 2 different types of storage that is all.

A solar panel's peak power multiplied by 5 hours provides the 24 hour output rating. This is the solar industry standard. The panel demonstrated is rated at 60 watts peak so it would be rated to provide 300 watt hours per day. The battery in this unit has about 1,200 wh capacity, so 4 days is your answer. The weather and your latitude are the 2 big variables that are different for all solar users; that's why this standard was established. It's simply a yardstick. If you connect 4 of these panels you could charge the battery fully in one day, most of the charging occurs between 10 am and 4 pm. This would be considered the minimum for off grid use. I have been a Union Electrician for 42 years, I hope this info helps.

In terms of essential function both gas and solar generators do the same thing. A gas generator converts gas - a high density energy source , stored in the gas tank- into 120vAC electricity. This solar generator converts less dense energy, stored in it's battery cells into 120vAC electricity. You refuel one by adding gas, the other by solar - or by wall or car battery power.

I can see this as being useful for recharging portable devices (cellphones, laptops, flashlights, etc) at night while stringing up a few camp lights, maybe microwave and coffee maker a couple of times a day then recharging it during the day. Would be a lot quieter and less mess than a gas generator. Wouldn’t be sufficient for prolonged, heavy draw items but for little stuff, why not? Looks like a great companion to a gas generator.

If you ever run a longer extension than you need, don't leave the excess in a coil!!!! The reason for that is because you're essentially making a transformer with nothing to cool it. If you must coil the excess, do it in a figure-8 so the frequencies cancel each other out. I worked a big charity auction setting up audio/video. Our crew worked 23 hours straight, but there were other crews there. I told my boss that I smelled the electrical kind of smoke. He chastised me for saying it in front of someone important. [Steven Spielberg event], but 10 minutes later, smoke started billowing out from under a temporary stage. Another crew coiled up about 100' of excess cord and it's jacket straight up melted. There you have it. Choose to believe me or not. Figure of 8 saves property and lives.

Been down that road before, the electrical Engineer that tried to disprove what he was taught to been fact, that being that any electric charge will not and cannot be held indefinite, yet Tesla proved this as a lie taught to use all, sure if the source is fried out or goes down you lose it, but isolation and repair can be down without a shutdown of the damaged portion given the main source is not to blame... you really should check out his work. This guy spent months trying to disprove what he had paid a small fortune for MIT to teach and was taught lies. Today, do they teach the same, I would not know.....REALLY hope not. But this Engineer only wanted to build devices of what history try's to label a mad man after being unable to disprove truth. Do yourself a favor and do not waste months trying to disprove it, because nothing here is a lie or incorrect, a simple scan over of his work will reveal a new understanding of how long a change can be held and used for, forever is the answer by the way. And yes you can make only 120 volt spark be millions of even billions of volts/amps/watts, not joking, not trolling, this man I know like the back of my hand. I am at a loss to understand all the criticism here. Hello from Thailand, where the electricity can go off at any time, and of course, without notice. (It even went off today for 5 mins). Most of the time, it is off for minutes, but it can be off for an hour, or more. And I was just thinking about what the OP said - what if you had medical equipment to power? You can't carry a UPS around with you - they are too big (and noisy beeping when activated). This has nice handles, form factor, and simplicity. I also saw a friend, who had rigged a supposedly quiet genny into this apartment's living room, right next to the window, and I was thinking thank GOD you don't live next door to me, as I would be complaining about that noise in a heart beat. But a device like this could provide energy for your TV / fan / router for quite some time it would seem. And seemlessly at that. You can live here without A/C, but not without a fan also.

The criticism is that this device is being called a "generator" when it is not. It is merely a big battery pack with an inverter to allow AC devices to be run off of it, but it is still just a battery that needs to be re-charged from either 110 AC or from a solar panel. It does not generate electricity, but merely stores some of it for use later.

A generator is a machine that converts mechanical movement with the use of magnets into electrical energy. You can see that in the FAA handbooks or any real source documents other than a product.
