Parents divorced when I was 4. My dad gave my mom a chance to be in our lives, she chose not to. But our dad, he raised me & my sister by himself he got some help every now & then, no child support. Took us to & from school, whatever school activities that schools was doing he was there. He even had to work nights for a few years, something that he really didn't want to do but did it. Sad to say we grew up without a mom and times were tough, but we pulled through because of him. I love you dad.

Same here man, my dad raised us both alone mom was never around till he was bedridden. Worked every single day until the cancer overwhelmed him. Wish I had've gotten to spend more time with him while he was around. This years 10 years since he passed in July, fighting back the tears writing this as a grown ass man. Cherish every day like you may not have a tomorrow.

ADANAC Sadly alot of people don't ever realize this. Most kids without a father growing up were told that there father leftt. That isn't even remotely true. The majority were forced out of their homes by government, which got going from their wife. Sadly the kids are brought up believing falsehoods. They don't know there dad was providing for them since they were born, and after the divorce. The old days were different, but now you're supposed to take certain things for granted, while propping up mediocre behavior. Nowadays just being a mother deems you the right to claim yourself a great, or, good one. As a father if you don't do half of the inside work,( as well as all the outside work he was already doing) then he is somehow lazy, or terrible. As Rodney Dangerfield always said "No respect I tell ya, no respect". No wonder marriage rates are plummeting. Good for you for realizing that though. It most certaintly is something all fathers hope their kids will realize someday. Be grateful for knowing that truth.

It doesn't have to be this way. We have all been deceived by an illusion that life for the majority is always a struggle. This is so far from the truth yet we accept that we have to work for some corporation and we accept what they want to pay. Their share holder dividends should be a huge clue to the amount of money they make off the poor they give bread crumbs to for their blood and tears. This can change. Start talking about it. The more we bring awareness out, the faster things will change. Tgere is enough resources in this world to take care of double the population in excess of having too much.

He was injured so bad he was permanently disabled. We fought like hell through homelessness and hardship till that settlement came and we moved up north a ways. He passed 5 years ago and he is still the strongest man I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing.

Song reminds me so much of my baby brother. He had his first child at 16, and immediately got a job on a shrimp boat to provide for his new family. On his 17th birthday, our father signed for him to enlist into the Marine Corps. He did three tours in Iraq, and was even wounded in fallujah. After the service he got a job offshore drilling, and worked countless hours every week to build a comfortable civilian life for his family. I watched as he deteriorated when he got sick. He beat it, and went right back to work to continue to provide. He overcame so much in life only to be hit by a stray bullet at a gas station half a mile from our fathers house in 2014. Rest in Paradise baby bro u were double the man anyone I know could ever be in half the time! You were always able to keep the wolves away. I’m so proud to be your big brother. Miss you so much man.

My dad left at sunrise, usually came home at sunset. Not "blue collar," just a humble librarian at the public libraries. We were pretty much poor, but didn't think of it that way. Dad worked, but only had one job except when he picked up projects, and I am grateful to him for showing me what a man really is, but not holding three jobs like some neighbors did so their wives could have fancy furniture and get their hair done every week at a salon (and grateful to my mom for not pushing him to do that or demanding it).

@@brianmackey6923 I couldn't guess at your father's demons, but a man who walks away from his family has some. At the moment he left, he thought that his family would be better off without him. He's felt grief all his life for what he did to you. And he knows that there's at least one man in the world who would kill him if he got the chance. Nothing he could do now could redeem him in your eyes and heart, but doing that to his family scared his soul.

I'm on a turnaround in a plant working 7-12's and reading everyone's comments while listening to this song hit me down to the soul. Early mornings, late nights and weekends can wear you down but being able to provide a better life for your family makes it all worth it. Nobody knows your sacrifice better than another blue collar worker. Keep up the work everyone.

Makes me cry everytime. My grandpa died to ALS after a fall triggered a calcium deposit in his neck. Left my dad two farms at the age of 26. When I was 8, my mom got a call that dad fell from the top of a combine and split his back on the corn head. Like in the song, my Dad recovered, but I'll never forget that day. I'm a 34 year old father of 2. I work in a coal power station. Hats off to anyone that fights off their wolves everyday! I fight a pack of wolves every second of everyday. I've been struggling to stay sober bc I've wasted to many years of my life running with the same wolves that now have turned on me. Im blessed that my father is and has been the rock in my life. Guilt overcomes me when thoughts burn through my mind of all the wasted memories that I destroyed by worrying about when I needed my fix. Now that I'm able to clearly think, my dad has moved on to Texas and it's not as simple to just stop and visit. I hate myself for wasting all the golden opportunities that I had of making memories with him. Ever since I became a father to my son, i can only dream of always being there for him like my dad was for me. I hurt so bad in my soul bc I know that all the time thats past can never be presented to me again. God bless everyone of u! Stay strong and don't let the wolves blow down the house that u created! My dad had bad complications from diabetes. It was making it hard for him to work. I took a pretty physical job and worked overtime as much as could, and convinced him to retire. I don't recall him ever telling me that he was proud of me. He wasn't the kind of man that expressed his emotions. He was a hard ass steelworker. But one day as we're sitting together watching TV, he turned to me and said "thank you for stepping up like you have." I was maybe 22 or 23 at that point. It took all I had to stifle my cries, but I couldn't hold back the tears. To this day I still get choked up thinking about it. That was my time to keep the wolves away. Dad passed in May of 2023. Despite us being at odds so many times, I still miss him so badly.

This song reminds me of my father. Waking up at 4 30 am, driving almost 4 hours every day to go to a factory assembly line. Punching in and out, thankful for dinner ready at 7 pm. In bed by 9. For years he did this, for us 3 kids, and his high school sweetheart. Never did I hear a word of complaint. But I felt the calluses on his hands. I heard the exhaustion in his voice as he sang me to sleep to the tune of songs like If I had a hammer, all the leaves are brown, and paperback writer. As a child I didn't know the metaphor of this song, keep the wolves away. Now as a father, I understand. My hands are rough. Bones weary. I'm there for my son, and my old man. To keep the wolves at bay.

My father was in roofing and had an accident that left him disabled at 23 years old, the doctors told him he would never walk again, they were wrong, and he continued to work for 20+ years to provide for my family. He passed away when I was 18yo. I was conceived after the accident, he defied everything everyone told him to provide for his family, and I'll never forget that. Thank you for this song.

Broke almost every bone in his body, 9 months laid up in the hospital with pins and wires through him. He wasn’t supposed to walk ever again. Went into logging for the next 47 years. I heard this song when I was homeless; lost my house and job while trying to help my own sister. Resulted in a depression that even two civil wars couldn't do. Hearing this song while getting some rest behind a random garage made me realize what others (grandpa) have sacrificed for me and got my ass right back in gear. I was still hurting but I went to therapy, got into business school, met the love of my life and now again listening to this song with my son and daughter. Thank you sir.

My dad growing up did everything to keep the wolves away and showed me what it takes as I got older. And I’m forever thankful as I’m now the sole provider for my two babies. There’s days I don’t know how I’m going to do it but when I see my kids protected from the real world without a care or fear in their eyes, and it just snaps something deep inside where it’s no longer a question.

I just lost my Father Nov 15th... This song has resonated with me since the first time I heard it! My father was fighting cancer, but alive! This song has impacted my life in 3 specific ways... How my Father protected us and sacrificed when no one noticed... How he beat cancer the first time, and fought so hard this time too... He was still keeping the wolves away until the end... And how this song is my son's favorite song.... Because he knows that I am doing my absolute best to keep the wolves away... Sorry for venting, I am just a human that feels this song

Real men understand this and are happy to work all day every day if that's what it takes to provide for his family, and still find time for a meal, or a laugh, or an outting, or a shoulder to cry on, then have a beer and spend time with his wife before bed....(we squeeze in those things and so much more). I just figured out why it's windy everywhere in this video, even in the house. The wolf never stops trying to blow down your house and it's your duty to keep it standing every day. This song gives me chills every time I listen to it, and I listen to it every day. It keeps me motivated to keep working hard for my family. Update: thanks for all the love everyone. Just had another insight as I’m listening to the song in my car. First time I’ve listen to it in the car and I noticed something. My car has a subwoofer in the back and I noticed the song has really intense bass. If you listen carefully with the bass up, it sounds like someone banging on the door. The wolf banging at the door. So throughout the whole song the wolf is banging at the door and trying to blow the house down.

He never let on how tired he was or how much strain it put on him. Now that I'm the breadwinner for my family, I do the same thing because I learned it from him. I work long hours every day, for months, years at a stretch "to keep the wolves away" and so my wife can be home with our kids. I consider it a privilege to work so hard and be so tired, because I know I'm doing my best for my family, and setting an example of how a man leads and takes care of his wife and children.

“‘Cause now it’s my turn to keep the wolves away.” That line gives me chills.

Yeah me too man, almost from my head to my feet just now when I read this while listening to the song. I been working since I was 6 years old but been letting the wolves tear me to pieces ever since me and my son's mom split up 8 almost 9 years ago. Won't be happening anymore, I'm coming to conquer the kingdom and queen I deserve one day, before too long. Most importantly my son back in my life!!

Just became a dad. Never have I felt so much pressure in my life to make sure there is a roof over her head.
