I really wish we can get some Heavy Chest/Leg pieces in the Mistlands that don't hold you back as you improve at the game.

Giving padded armor a resistance to blunt to really tank/shrug off certain threats could be fun

I agree it seems like a natural compliment to the linen cape which doesn't have frost res.
@J7M11

The "Tank" term itself is kinda not applicable in Valheim. Since the whole "just stack armor and nothing can hurt you" thing doesn't exist. Stacking armor just means you don't get one-shot by something sneezing on you. So until we see some actual tank sets just get just enough armor to take 1 or 2 hits and Git Gud
@undignified2843
@undignified2843 Рік тому
This is exactly why movement debuffing armor is just kinda useless. No value. I'll mitigate way more dmg with mobility than chasing armor

Since mistlands, i play carapace helmet, root harnisk and fenris leggings. 72 armor (i think), good movement and also the pierce resistance

The root chest is godly. Who dies to melee? It’s the damn surprise spears and arrows that get people. All in all there’s no one way to tank and I love that. I usually do a mix of armors and almost always keep the root chest on because of what kills me 9 times out of ten are surprise arrows, or poison. It differs by biome and what you plan to do that determines what gear to bring. It’s perfect

Really would like stagger resist to become the default thing that comes with any heavy chest and legs, then have each metal chest have its own special resistance that helps newer players overcome the biggest danger of the biome it unlocks in. For example a bronze chestplate could have blunt damage resist only, which would make it way more forgiving to fight trolls in the early game and be pretty good against the elder. Legs would have stagger resist to let you block for longer. As it is now bronze armor is a complete waste Iron scale mail = faster movement in deep water (swamp traversal) Wolf armor chest = fine as is Padded chest = very high stagger resist (taking damage or blocking multiple starred fulings isn't a death sentence), Immunity to nighttime Cold (but not Freezing) Carapace chest = ???
@howardxu8050

Carapace can have piece res, as most bugs there have pierce damage

I like using the fenris legging instead of the padded. I like the mobility better than the extra armor.

This is a really creative topic that I've thought about myself. I think they should really encourage players to try on different combinations of armor other than providing set bonuses. I think one day or another, the game SHOULD give us a way to use old armor later in the game without the consequence of armor value. Let's say, all the heavy armor are basically biome-specific armor and they provide the best armor value in the specific biome. But once you've conquered the biome and defeated the boss, all the armor sets except heavy armor, receives an upgrade that standardizes their armor values to that of the light armor of the next biome. It's a big topic, but an interesting one. Hope to see you talk more on this
@donaldgodfrey8299
@donaldgodfrey8299 Рік тому
This kind of breakdown is neat to run into. I've always thought you didn't get any bonuses from set pieces unless you wore the whole set.
@terratanzanite
@terratanzanite Рік тому
Only thing you wont get is the Set Bonus. So for root armor it's the bows +15 and for fenris armor it's the fists +15 and fire resistance.
@luish.abdalla2069
@luish.abdalla2069 Рік тому
Random question. At what level does my aiming time with the bow becomes lower? Do I have to use some full set or is it just about leveling up the skill ?
@terratanzanite
@terratanzanite Рік тому
Leveling up the skill. The root set bonus will give a +15 effective levels to bows which will not only be a speed and damage boost, but will also help level up bows even faster over the ages. The root set and its pieces are incredibly well mechanically designed. The leggings are meh but that's ok.

@IllusionistsBane
@IllusionistsBane Рік тому
@@terratanzanite Not really. I prefer archery and Maces/Atgeirs and was interested in other weapons because someone made combat videos with them (especially Skoll and Hati - only recently did I learn that the knives' alt attack resembles the Paladin Jump). So I guess it's Carapace. Also, I feel Valheim should've introduced magic earlier and spread it out across the 'ages'.
@terratanzanite
@terratanzanite Рік тому
Yeah I agree with magic throughout the ages. I wasn't a mage my first run and fenris hood, root harnesk, fenris pants with a fenris coat to quick swap for Gjall served me well. Although the weapons served me even better 😅
@TheGreatJon
@TheGreatJon Рік тому
Agreed 100%. This is a recurring issue with MOST games - LMGs, heavy armour, and 2 handed weapons are "balanced" to be slow and heavy - but they're not balanced with how any game works - if your enemy is fast, hits hard enough, and can attack more frequently (all bonuses of light armour & weapons) then being slow an heavy is a death sentence, becase even if you get 1 hit in, the weapon is never THAT strong. The 2h axe in valheim, for instance, it still takes at least 2 hits to kill most enemies with the axe, and it's achingly slow to swing, so why not use a spear that allows you to stun lock most enemies and stab about 6 times in the time it takes for an axe to swing twice? The heavy armour in Valheim gives you more protection, but enemies hit so hard, if you get caught out, you'll die maybe... 1 second later than if you had light armour, and you almost certainly will die because you move so much slower, with Troll armour I can run rings around enemies, and it's so much easier and more effective than tanking in armour.
@terratanzanite
@terratanzanite Рік тому
I do wish that battleaxes were a lil faster on the regular moveset. Still a beast in certain situations and in multiplayer. But yeah speed was always godly, even when it was just maxxed padded helm and quality 3 troll pants and tunic.
@cybererox2055
@cybererox2055 Рік тому
I really hope they'll add more tanky stuff for now we have rogue, berserker, archer and even mage, now we need someone who can tank for eternity with a tower shield ! :D For now tower shield are the useless thing in the game, slow, have just little more blocking power and can't parry for bonus damage

Armor just needs to work around the resistance aspect of the game like heavy armor having a resistance to blunt but they need to nerf bonemass to compensate and also not have it get above 50% dmg reduction

Well I have did some messing around, apparently the game does resistances weirdly Instead of a variable, it does it in fixed values: IE Very weak-75% more damage taken Weak-50% more damage taken Resistant-50% less damage taken Very resistant-75% less damage taken Immune-damage type nullified There is a lack of the 25% bracket in fact

how do you deal with the tar abominations?
@terratanzanite
@terratanzanite Рік тому
Root set (mask for poison res but bows +15 is nice) and huntsman bow with fire arrows. Growths are very weak to fire - the Huntsman bow has a 4m aggro radius on an arrow compared to 8m on other bows. You can very safely pick them off from a distance as a fire arrow sneak attack will one-shot one with the DOT from the fire.
@martinez206045
@martinez206045 Рік тому
@@terratanzanite The problem is not dealing with them when they are unaware of the player - the problem is when 2-3 of them are aggroed on the player. then it gets fun.

Run at them at a45 to 60 degree angle then circle them. When they fire at you they miss then you close and melee them down. This is more fun than using the bow with fire. Too easy that way.
