The producers of this short film seem to be admirers of the film Alien. They made notable references to him but built a very creative work with a surprising ending. The entire production is wonderful and very well cared for. They deserve great recognition for everything they have accomplished in this beautiful work. My admiration from Brazil.

This was absolutely marvelous! Great plot, terrific visuals and an amazing "reveal" at the end. The reveal of the human skull at the very end, and the "alien" lifting his visor so we can see his non-human face, was just fabulous! I know I was not the only viewer who was cringing when the astronaut approached the "strange looking eggs"! I was expecting a scene from the movie "Alien"!! On reflection, I would have to agree with another person who commented that no Earth human would go near any "eggs" with a ten foot pole! These two men are about to become two of the most famous people in their planet's history. Can you imagine the field day that their archeologists and scientists will have with this discovery? It is a shame that the protagonists also come from a race that is destroying their environment----but that is a crisis that every intelligent race would have to face and overcome, if they are to survive and evolve. One has to hope that the discovery of the destroyed Earth will give their race the impetus and inspiration they need to save themselves. The destroyed Earth is a terrible lesson, but perhaps if that lesson helps to save a space going civilization, then the Earth did not die in vain. One can only hope.

Since the mining shuttle is named Ezekiel my thought is that the two geologists are not aliens, but possibly descendants of an offshoot human colony that evolved into another species that had forgotten where their ancestors came from.

@@williamking3301 I like your take William. It's along the lines of my own interpretation and a plausible explanation that requires less "suspension of disbelief" to accommodate alien-appearing protagonists speaking English. I've lived & breathed sci fi for 4 decades & this is as good as any short story by Isaac Asimov or Arthur C Clarke. I lost that "acceptance of reality" with the spacesuits. They will no longer be that bulky at a time we're doing space mining. One of the fun things in Heinlein's "Have space suit, will travel" is his description of space suits (at a time when the moon is settled), and then the criticism the main character, a kid, has of suit design. He determines he'll become a space suit designer. This film would have been more impressive if they'd copied those ideas. And ... any Belter, citizen of the asteroid belt (Larry Niven) knows space is always out to kill you. Three redundancies, better 3 x 3. Why aren't these idiots carrying any tether lines? And if that's supposed to be an "alien" whose discovered a human ship on a dead earth, it needs to be clearer. A dramatic space shot of earth, with no air or water but continents recognizable would have been much more emotional.
@idunbeezasmart1
@idunbeezasmart1 4 роки тому
@@veralenora4033 You're right, I hadn't thought of that. If they are so advanced that they can afford to send a ship light years away just to take some soil samples, their suits would most definitely be more streamlined. The bulky suits are needed to mislead the viewer, but as you pointed out, they wouldn't actually have those kinds of suits. Heck, I doubt they would even send "people". They could just as easily send probes to find the resources and robots to collect it. For me, it was the tinted helmets and the fact there were no interior shots of the spaceship, where we'd get to see the "astronauts" that tipped me off.

Fascinating short film; thanks for sharing it here on UKposts! It certainly seems at first to be future astronauts exploring the moon or a similar world. The mention of fossil fuels, however, reveals that there was once life in the distant past, since we all learned in science class about how fossil fuels are formed. The total absence of atmosphere and the disintegrating condition of the concrete in the underground structure all suggest an extremely long time has passed. The title _Unearthed_ first seems to suggest that the explorers belong to a society that has left earth a long time ago. But when artifacts are discovered in the buried chamber, _unearthed_ takes a new meaning. If the catastrophe was far enough back in the past, then the face we see could still be human (as a few have suggested already). Both meanings of the title could therefore apply.

All I needed to see was the little doll astronaut "flying" back to the ship, no movement at all? Human beings are only that still when dead and only during rigor mortis are we stiff as a board! Alien, best ever sci-fi! On the lower scale, but not the bottom, Vin Diesel's Riddick, but hell, to be perfectly honest, he could just read the phone book and I'd love it. "Gravity", as of late, was the worst sci-fi film made with huge stars, at least in my opinion and that's truly not a high bar to climb over! I love George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, just as much as the rest of the world, but it was a hyped up movie, with not much hype! He needed to pay for the wedding, I get it. As far as talking about "Gravity" with Clooney & Bullock, I was responding to Ali Servan's comment about Hollywood's monopoly on blockbuster hits, that really shouldn't have been made, I was joking about the reasons they made the movie, but money usually is what gets big name stars in a movie like "Gravity". :)

Ali Ahadi I believe that is what is stated above and I'm not correcting anyone, so yes 2 or 3 minutes into it, I didn't like it. I didn't say anything negative to people who do watch the entire clip, I said I could tell it wasn't for me. Haven't you ever been flipping the channels on tv, come across something you thought might be interesting and a couple minutes into it, you say, nah and start flipping channels again. Same thing! At last for me.

Why not abandon Hollywood in favor of these productions then? That is largely what I have chosen to do--no cable TV for more than three years now and haven't bought a new release DVD since "Avatar" almost a dozen years ago. Hollywood's crap got old and boring even before they mostly became Leftist idiots who seem to think they have something valid to say about the way our society should function.

And actually they would not be aliens, as deGrasse Tyson has pointed out - they share the same physiology with life evolved on earth - vertebrate, the limbs, have the same miserable layout where they eat, breath, speak all through the same hole. etc... that is fatal to all the poor alien conspiracy theorists, but of course they are not bothered by that when depicting "greys" found in Roswell and what not. Total fail of science and the imagination on behalf of ufologists for 60 years and counting ;)

That was my exact thought process too. I got really excited when I made the connection of the title "unearthed" as he was poking through. I thought they were humans who had forgotten Earth at first until he removed his solar shield. The only loose end of the clip was that almost everything, especially paper, should have long since broken down into dust. Pretty solid on the details otherwise.

Then they can apply what they learned to save their world. Or maybe they awaken a horrible virus that gets loose. And the human scientists found a cure to late to save themselves maybe the the people who found Earth will try to cure their people. Thank you for this film. My mind is looking for different plots. I wouldn't be surprised. In science fiction the majority of Alien races we depict are usually high tech civilizations and the armies or navy they field usually with the best tech. These guys were a mining crew. Likely spending months to a few years on long range assignments. the ships and equipment they have wouldn't be sleek, high tech or really that advanced. Indeed a mining ship and crew would likely have equipment and items that would be very comparable to what we have on earth for real life mining, and salvage crews and locations. pretty much everything would be practical, durable, and most important of all cheap and easy to use and replace. makes a lot of sense when you actually think about it. One funny thing people pointed out if humanity ever encountered a alien race and did trade one of humanities greatest exports would likely be off all things we have.. Duck tape which is practically useful in almost a great number of situations and uses. Its also cheap and can be put anywhere. NASA practically requires that Duck Take is on board every manned flight in space. Also we have different types of duck tape for different uses, and different requirements. Its use for a space going civilization if they never created a equivalent would be a damn gold mine for Earth.

A little warning from the future without being preachy (like the best of sci-fi). I loved the twist at the end with the reveal from the lift of the helmet visor & the skull (& a little nod to 'Alien'). Very contemporary given recent current global affairs on Earth. Well done. The shuttle reminded me of those in Space 1999 (which I loved as a kid). Suspenseful & enjoyable little nugget. Good film.

Great effort! I was as fooled as everyone else was! My wife and I laughed so hard all the way through because of the "crack-up" dialog and drawn out theme, and the whole time we couldn't figure out what it was all about! But we're so happy that we continued to watch! We thought that it seemed like a Twilight Zone episode. Doesn't it? Seriously! The Twilight Zone always had a perceptual twist at the end like this one. Remember the episode where the beautiful woman was recovering from facial reconstructive surgery, and you never see anyone's face (not the doctors or the nurses, either) until the very end. It was only then, when they remove her bandages and reveal her beautiful features, that they cry out how hideous she "still" is! That's when they show you their faces for the first time, and they are the hideous ones! I love that episode! But this is the same kind of short film, in my opinion. That's what I saw! I applaud them for taking us on this "trip". It was more than just funny! It was Hilarious! The end was a bit more sobering, though, but still a very fun time! You just have to laugh at all of the laughable stuff! That's my suggestion! Have fun!

Nice! I liked it. Suggestions: Just leave out the name of the ship or ships, and don't show anything in writing. A working crew on a months-long project wouldn't bother saying ship names. Actually, you could study the dialog in a documentary about oil well drilling or taking samples in Antarctica, because this would be more like that, and less like an Apollo mission. You could also have everybody refer to each other with things that sound like nicknames: Lucky, Red, Rocker, Dizzy, Bumper, etc. etc. I know it's irrational, but I can ignore aliens speaking English, yet it seems jarring to give them ordinary human names. You'll notice it's common in sci-fi that aliens can speak English (often with a Universal Translator ) but their proper nouns are kept alien. "Would you like some more K'tang tea?" asked the Grkchorvian ambassador. I'd show Earth's moon at the end - there's no strong reason why it wouldn't still be there and look about the same. Also unless you think your main characters came from a cooled-off Venus or a somehow restored-to-wetness Mars, they are from another star system. But their mothership really does not look like a starship - looks way too much like a NASA Mars mission. Of course if they come from another star system, it's really implausible that they would be looking for resources to haul across interstellar space. If it's actually economical for them to haul megatons of matter between stars, then their ship would be big - because why not? I did find it distractingly weird that the astronauts were not more astonished and excited at finding evidence of intelligent life: They didn't act like this was the first time, but they didn't act like it was the 2nd or 3rd time either. Just puzzling. Still one of the best put-together sci-fi shorts I've seen! Kudos and congrats!
