I agree, my profit has been consistent no matter the market situation, I got into the market early 2019 and the constant downtrends and losses discouraged me so I sold off, got back in Dec 2020 this time with guidance from an investment adviser that was recommended by a popular economist on a subreddit, long story short, its been 2years now and I’ve gained over $850k following guidance from my investment adviser.

Market declines, soaring inflation, a significant Fed interest rate hike, and rising treasury rates are all expected to result in greater losses for portfolios this quarter. How can I make money now in the erratic market? I'm currently debating whether to sell the million-dollar bond and stock portfolio I have.

Pay attention to two main goals. Learn the best times to sell stocks to limit your losses and maximize your winnings to start protecting yourself. Next, get ready to profit when the market turns around. I suggest talking to a broker or financial advisor.

Yes, I've been in touch with a financial analyst ever since I covid. Investing in trending companies is relatively easy today; the trick is determining when to purchase and sell. The market and the Fed consistently underestimate the sticky nature of inflation. The markets are still unsure if the Federal Reserve will continue to its plan to raise interest rates until inflation is under control, despite the fact that bond yields are rising while stock prices are falling. Like Warren Buffet said, dividends are only good if the business you’re investing into can’t make good use of that capital. So if you’re trying to invest into businesses with actual growth, looking at dividends is a waste of time. Why are you investing into a company if they’re returning capital to you because they think you can make better use if it than they can. It’s not much different from bond investing. The way I see it if you have a $1 million at some point, that’d be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between 50k-70k in dividend income...

The pathway to substantial returns doesn't solely rely on stocks with significant movements. Instead, it revolves around effectively managing risk relative to reward. This principle applies across various investment approaches, whether it be long-term investing or day trading.

5% isn't high but then again it's not the rate of interest but the amount of debt that matters.... Small rate increases can lead to big defaults and illiquidity if companies can't cover the cost of their debts. 10 years of borrowing at zero rates has made markets highly sensitive to this... so would have to disagree with Taleb on this as well.

Whast has been successful has been imagining what the world would be like in 50 years based on undeniable trends. One has been the economic growth in China since the 70s would create a class of the wealthy that would value Chinese art treasures. A side hustle in investing in Chinese art and cultural artifacts in the 80s would have returned multiples in the medium term. Its about riding waves likely a variety of these...
@shawnjavery
@shawnjavery 7 місяців тому
There's a level of risk in that though. For example looking at China's next 50 years, I can't help but fear that there will be massive instability in the country that will touch any investment made into the area. The better outlook is to have a plan that doesn't require things to go right to work out. Live a healthier, less stressful life now so when you're older you don't have as many health problems that end up deciding things for you. You can have as many clever plans as possible but there's always the possibility of something beyond your control screwing you over when it really matters.

24:36 Taleb’s explanation of what they do at Universa seems to be that they ‘Buy far out of the money Options (possibly LEAPS)’. Then they roll them until there is a random dip, or black swan shake-up in the market. Does anyone know if this is correct interpretation ?

@@kindnesslove5482 I’m sure they are using other complex strategies like CDS etc. but since I’m a small retail trader I am thinking I should use small amounts of $ to keep their 3% as 100% of my portfolio. Roll some 18 month LEAPS. my only question is what if I’m only 3 months into owning these 24 month OTM LEAPS and they go way up in value due to black swan.. will they be easy to sell? I’m guessing it’s more sophisticated than that but I see why you’d guess that’s what they do. I think Spitznagel used to claim he’d try to buy Puts that were about -30% to break even on the underlying and use 2% of the portfolio on the Puts for some underlying like SPY that should usually appreciate longterm but he never gave details on how he rolled and managed them and made it sound like there was secret sauce on when to buy and sell them, which expiry dates to hold and how to roll them. I’m also guessing he’d never tell you exactly what he’s doing and oversimplify it… and he probably is more capital efficient with futures and not buying Puts on Robinhood.
@brothergod6633
@brothergod6633 10 місяців тому
@@xxyyzz8464 thanks for this. I never knew of the -30%, only the 2%. I suppose it is more sophisticated but I tend to believe that whatever they are doing can be replicated on a smaller retail level. I have heard Spitznagel refer to the concept as being a form of portfolio insurance. Meaning if 98% of my portfolio is generally bullish/long investments then it’s okay to have 2% of the positions in cheap, wildly speculative short positions on major indexes. They view it as a small price to pay for having insurance. I’m not sure why everyone else views it as a drain on their portfolio. A large California Pension Fund left Universa just prior to the Pandemic for this reason.

How could anyone be wrong about COVID in every particular? To start, we are NOT better prepared "for the next one." Here's just a sprinkling: 1. Well-founded mistrust in established authorities, without any viable substitute (we can't trust them anymore, but no one is coming up who is better); 2. Mitigation measures such as masks either don't work very well, or, such as lockdowns, do unforeseeable harm that offsets their benefit; 3. There is evidence that COVID weakens many people's bodies permanently, not just those who were very sick, and we don't know the full extent of it yet; That's a mere start. No one person or entity is in charge of the supply. We all have "skin in the game" to keep the system functioning.
