Aww don’t be so hard on yourself. Figure inventing and drawing from your head isn’t something we are born with. It’s one of the later drawing skills that develop. Just keep showing up everyday and trying. That’s all you can control!

Haha! I can relate as well. Although I’ve tried to study some art techniques in the past, it felt too ‘measured’ for me as a kid, so I stuck to my style of drawing. I’ve only recently started learning all these art techniques and they make the drawing process so much simpler, faster, fun and accurate, now I just want to give younger me a hard knock on the head for not edu-ma-cating myself 😂

I don’t know a method that uses cubes. If you do what’s it called? I’ll try looking into it but usually drawing with cubes gives very inorganic results. Happy to help if you point me in the right direction though!

Yeah drawing is strange like that. You gotta come at it from all different angles and tricks. Whatever gets the job done!! Some people like starting with a cylinder too

Yeah it just trains you to draw arcs both ways. I’m doing a full circle but just touching down only on one side. It’s passed down from Disney animators. More of a constructive/animation/storyboard way to draw. Nothing is set in stone take and leave whatever does or doesn’t work for you. I just personally find the way animators and board artists draw to be the most loose quick and expressive way you can draw because they go through around 700-100 panels a day some times so you really have develop develop the most efficient short hand. And the arcs on both sides is more on encapsulation the form than laying down a perfect circle. Often they start to draw looser and more sketchier as they progress on focus less on precision and more on feeling emotion and story. So it also plays into the C S I shape design principles of drawing every line as a c s or I shape. Thanks for the comment!

Just start with circles and boxes. Draw them over and over until you get so good at it you kinda get bored and want to start pushing yourself to learn more. Than start adding onto the sphere to construct the head. Hope that helps!

In the video demonstration I show where to place the circle. Corner of the eye. Hair line is top of circle placement which is 2/3’s the over all size of the sphere.

@@AlfieBerger Thank you for the response! for some reasons that part is hard for me to grasp but im getting it now. Its hard for me to visualize I suppose to knowing that the brow and hairline is 1/3 away it makes it easier

What do you mean? That there is no need to learn construction? we are pretty symmetrical not like our eyes and mouths are in random places. It’s pretty predictable measurements that fit most humans in the world.
