The world is a better place because of the family of nations. We keep each other honest. And the B-52 is the instrument of such virtue.....

I was able to go on a refueling mission for B-52's when I was stationed in the Indian Ocean. Was able to sit near boom operator, it was amazing seeing the B-52 approach for refueling. Could see the pilots clearly. Something I'll never forget.

The two blisters on the nose are the FLIR (Foward Looking Infrared) camera and the EVS for "Electro-optical Viewing System." It's not just a low level television camera......it is also a low light camera. It can see with just star light, for instance.

The B-52 is forecast to be the first jet to stay in service for 100 years - Think about that for a second - the B-1 and B-2 will be long gone in the meantime.

That’s 13 gallons per second . That is some serious volume of fuel being pumped . Never even considered the weight of the plane increasing by 3 tons per minute . Yep , these guys are good .

7:15 Having an open boom mic on a Crew Chief's headset is crazy. It lets in too much noise. Whatever happened to the ones with the mouth covering that strapped right to the ear pieces?

All of these Jet Jockey's saying how hard it is to aerial refuel at night. Mehh, once I had me SH60 lined up with a C130, I'd put me feet up on the dash, and have a quick snooze while me Co-Pilot took over. I taught many a Pilot like that. Just showed them that I trusted them 100%. Worked every time.

These videos do nothing to show you how loud these things are, even just idling. I work at Tinker AFB. They are out on the ramp running every night. They are LOUD, even just idling. When they run the engines up, you'd best have ear plugs in. LOUD.

Why weren't the crew members on the lower deck of the B-52 wearing helmets and oxygen masks?

"Why weren't the crew members on the lower deck of the B-52 wearing helmets and oxygen masks?" As I recall helmets and masks were required during takeoff and landing......inflight refueling.....and during combat operations. But during cruise flight to the mission area we just wore A1C headsets.

@rael5469
@rael5469 Рік тому
@@kennethlane3896 Oh, I was a Crew Chief, not a pilot. But yours was a good question though. For instance I don't think that Tanker crews wear helmets because they don't have ejection seats. (I could be wrong on that.) So I think the reason bomber crews wear helmets at all is because they might have to eject. Us Crew Chiefs went through a short classroom survival training which taught us about such things. The regular flight crews went through survival training out in the field from what I remember. From what I recall a person in survival training got luck of the draw as far as the weather. (Same with us in basic training on our small arms qualification day. It was raining when I shot) Our instructor said he was in freezing rain on a hike to their camp sight and froze halfway through building individual shelters. The other "survivors" had to build his shelter for him and use body heat to revive him. I don't recall how they were eventually picked up from their training. At least back then they were serious as a heart attack on survival training.

@@rael5469 Thank you for your reply. Cold weather is certainly a factor. I joined the Army in September '71 and seen plenty of cold weather. For AIT I went to FT. Gordon, Ga. and remember stepping off the bus in snow and slush. From there I went to Germany and really found out what cold weather is all about. Came close to frost bite there.

B-52H does not use water injection. That was on the older J-57s of the B-52D model. The TF-33s have black smoke because they are a 50 year old inefficient design. Modern engines have closer tolerances and burn hotter and more fuel efficient.....like your modern automobile.
