A few things: - USB killers use an oscillator, a step-up transformer, and a few capacitors. The oscillator takes the 5 volts from the USB port, drives the transformer to step the voltage up to about 200 volts, and the capacitors store the resulting voltage as a charge. When it builds a potent enough charge, the oscillator disconnects and the capacitors are shorted across the USB port's power pins, and POP, whatever it's plugged into is probably dead. If not, the capacitors are disconnected, the oscillator reconnects, and the process repeats. - USB ports are _supposed_ to be able to withstand 2-kilovolt static discharges, but usually don't actually survive a couple hundred volts, which isn't enough to shunt through the protection but _is_ enough to destroy the USB root hub and dump a charge down the bus and/or down the power supply lines into other motherboard components. - Many phones use USB in "peripheral" mode, which doesn't have to _provide_ power over the port, but does _accept_ power. This was intended as a charging method, not as a means to power devices. That said, some portable devices' USB ports do provide power (so they can drive small loads like USB storage media) and _will_ get toasted by the USB killer, as was the case with the Pixel. Basically, if it'll detect a USB flash drive plugged into the charge port, it'll probably be killed by a USB killer.

The S7 did recognize the usb otg adapter, so what if you used a male to male type A cable with the adapter and put it in charge mode? That works with my LG G6 (although my port is perfectly fine)...
