Very nice! The Doppler effect was more caused by the Milky Way Galaxy rotation depending on where the antenna was pointed on the Milky Way arm. Really cool you got that the first time.
@Ratzfourtyfour

Interesting. Earth is moving at 220km/s around the center of the galaxy, and as it rotates, it faces different 21cm sources at different relative velocities. I can't do the math tho, it's a mess of interfering rotations and sources lol.
@alphaadhito
@alphaadhito 5 місяців тому
@@Ratzfourtyfour Well it might be a late reply but finally got the first data last week with 2.3 m antenna. And yeah, you can actually calculate the Doppler frequency and add the solar system rotation and earth rotation in the formula and we managed to calculate maybe within -/+ 5 km/s of theoretical calculation (RTL-SDR TCXO actually limits the accuracy to about 1.5 km/s but you can get GPS-DO receiver with 1000 times better accuracy). There's even an application called SDRAngel with Radio Astronomy plugin that can crunch more number beyond that but I ain't even touch that for a while as it's very complicated, lol. It's mind-blowing what today's technology especially the RTL SDR can offer!

I do Astrophotography and am used to looking for Hydrogen Alpha (HA) Nebulae to photograph. I wonder how much of the sky that antenna is actually sampling. I'm curious if you were to mount it to let's say a computer controlled Equatorial Telescope Mount and use it #1 keep a target centered, but #2 scan the sky for other pockets of HA, you might be able to make discoveries that haven't been seen yet. Would be cool to write some software to visually map out the sky along with the perceived HA level.

@paulatreides6779 here is a basic description When a meteor enters the Earth’s upper atmosphere it excites the air molecules, producing a streak of light and leaving a trail of ionization behind it kilometers long. This ionized trail may persist for less than 1 second up to several minutes, occasionally. This trail is capable of reflecting radio waves from transmitters located on the ground, similar to light reflecting from a mirrored surface. Meteor radio wave reflections are also called meteor scatter, or pings. In order to listen to meteor Scatter, you need a powerful transmitter in VHF band located not too close but not too far from you, we are using the video sync signal from a TV station in Canada, an Off Center Fed Dipole antenna, and a USB Software Defined Radio receiver.

I'd imagine there's some sort of software out there. I saw a video years ago of a wifi telescope/camera. They put it outside and saw right through into their apartment I think it was and the different strength signals made a detailed image of the objects within due to reflection and attenuation. It might have been taken down, but still search for it.

For that extremely high-resolution image of i.e., the Black Hole from the Event Horizon Telescope, they used so called Interferometry which need multiple radio telescope array from across the world (literally a telescope a size of the Earth). You can see ALMA in Chille or more famously the VLA that made a cameo from the movie Contact :).

Yup. I am currently doing this, but at around 21 MHz. Usually, when you get signals from Jupiter it's very broadband, all the way from maybe 15 MHz to 25 and above. (_I_ chose 21 MHz for my "telescope", because I don't have a lot of interference there). My biggest problem so far has been the sheer size of the antennae, since I don't have a house with a garden...

@@dennis8019 yup! Jupiter’s moon Io have so powerful thunderstorms that you can pick up the signals from the lightnings, here on Earth, but they usually need quite directional antennae in order for the signals not to drown in earthly background noise. And sometimes fairly specialized filters, too.

Great video. I've wanted to do this, except my intent is to have the dish on a stepper motor gimbal with az/el capability. What I need is a coding person to write an app that will move the dish horizontally and vertically to scan a grid across the sky. By mapping the hydrogen signal strength in each cell of the grid we can convert the data to an actual visual presentation of the Milky Way. If you know anyone that can write such an app let me know! Thanks for the presentation. Love your channel. 73

This was a long time ago now, probably back when CDs first became popular. I'd guess it would be feasible to electrically modulate a laser diode like in fibre optics. I'm guessing you want to modulate it with analogue audio rather than digital?

What do you mean "do to the doppler effect"? Why would the doppler effect show an rf spike? Doppler effect is an increase or decrease in frequency & at the speed of the earth's rotation a doppler effect would not show up since rf travels at nearly the speed of light & the earth's rotation is a fraction of that. 6.67 miles per second as oppose to 186,000 miles per second.
