I love watching loma fight, regardless of this loss. Many greats take losses, Canelo, Tyson, Eubank (not jnr), Benn and many more. I do think he needs to fight more often and go against some more heavy handed opponents! It seems to be a weak spot for him! 👊

You're exactly right. I wish he would've started fighting sooner. It was round 4,5... 6, 8. I was like, Damn! Cmon man, fight! Then when he started throwing hands, it looked like Teo was getting tagged so much and didn't know what to do. Respect to both, especially Teo - he handled it well, and beast moded round 12 for sure. Wouldve been good to see this one go 15 like the old days...

I swear, if I were him, I'd go back down to 130, and DESTROY a champion, and then call teoffimo out. Like the old days... great fight tho. Maybe having 12-14 months without a boxing match was a factor too. Maybe not. But he was composed the whole boxing match and never looked out of place. If he turned up a couple rounds earlier, he may have pulled it off.

He doesn't, but he is pretty much in the same situation as Pacquiao where at their current weight class they need to really work extra hard and fight cleanly to get wins. They need to always be careful to not over commit and get knocked out because of the natural difference in power... not to mention you may start losing some of your traditional strengths as you go up in weight like you may lose some speed as you bulk up or maybe people in higher weights would no longer get hurt with your power as they are used to strong punches in their weigh class. This is the reason why Loma is having harder time in 135 in general/ why Pacquiao stopped knocking people out left and right on 147 for years even when he was around his prime/ why Mikey Garcia cannot box the same way he would usually do against Spence. Especially so against opponents who are in reality bigger than the weight class they fight on especially if the skill gap is not so huge.

Yeah he did. He got beat once and won that after he came back. Yeah there is no rematch clause but who knows what the future holds. If López is so confident he’d have no reason not to fight again. It’ll be PPV and make loads of money. He’s be stupid not to unless he thinks Loma has got a good enough chance of taking the belts back

It don't matter if the judges had him winning by 1 or 10 points. He won by 3 rounds on my card that t... It was unanimous not split. Everyone had Lopez winning. Loma was just too arrogant thinking he could win in later rounds, I reckon thats why they ain't even bother with a rematch clause... Now what!? Haha

He made one mistake. Overestimated lopez on the inside for most of the fight. Yeah it was hard to close the distance but once he did, it was the loma we know in there. He took too long to realize this

Two was using his longer faster jabs and straights to maintain range outside of Loma effective range. He also mixed in left hooks to the head and body to prevent him from cutting his famous angel. That counter uppercuts kept Loma from closing the distance with his own straight punches. Nothing Loma could do till Teo slowed down

Ever since the Luke Campbell fight Loma has been fighting scared at 135. He started very slow and threw away the early rounds with Cambell too. And to think everyone thought Lomachenko could have once beating the old 8 division legend Manny Pacquiao at 135. An old Pacquiao would clean out the 135 division easily.

It wasn’t just that. Lopez Was much sharper and controlled distance much better than Loma anticipated. The sharpness and power made Loma second guess hiself. At the end of the day this is elite level boxing against an excellent young fighter, and you don’t just get to use the angles you want and my punches you want like Loma is used to doing without something coming back at you.

Very important. I'm sure Loma threw in the first 6 rounds the least amount of punches ever in his career. He would have lost those rounds to any decent boxer. Loma started to throw in round 7. You can say he had 14 months and 6 rounds of inactivity.

I gave Loma rounds 2, 8, 9, 10, and 11. I have 7 as a swing round, so I was fine with either a draw or 115 113 Lopez. The result was fine, the scorecards were insane but meh does it matter really.

He was hesitant to go inside for he respected Lopez' power. In the 2nd half, he knew he had to work his a$$ and he did a good job there but it wasn't enough to take the lead. The scorecard is questionable for me but I agree that Lopez won that fight (close fight).

Terrible tactics from him and his team, at some point in the first 6 rounds someone needed to slap him in the face and wake him up, his team did nothing, by the time Loma actually started throwing punches in the 8th round he had already lost the fight on points and needed a KO. There was no way the judges were ever giving him that fight after the first 7 rounds of doing nothing.

He mastered his art form, they couldn't catch him but he was always tagging them. He might not have been an action fighter in the second half of his career, but when it comes down to the actual sport of boxing, the actual sport, not the entertainment aspect but he technical side, the ACTUAL sport of boxing, he was a genius, a complete master at hitting without being hit.

Early rounds Loma did NOT land the better shots. Lopez was working his body and even though it was slow start, Loma took too long to engage likely because he felt that power. Loma got behind and then started pushing the pace towards the end because he knew he was behind.

Everybody kept saying that Loma wouldn't lose a decision and I was telling everybody it was the other way around. The latino market is the biggest consumer of the sport and Lopez was going to get a decision if it went the distance, that explains the 119-109 just to make sure (remember the weird scorecards of Canelo VS Mayweather and Canelo VS GGG 1) . But this is all on Loma, he wasted 6-7 rounds and didn't start pressuring until round 9. Lopez did what he had to to do and so, he's the next star.

I was rooting for Loma and its heartbreaking to see him lose and hold back tears walking backstage. But Teofimo fought amazingly and controlled the pace early. Incredible timing with his counter punching with undeniable power. Each time Loma jabbed early on it was met with a thud of a right hand by Teo. Loma was hurt multiple times this fight, and may have gotten dropped if he were to open up earlier. Thats how sharp Teo was toinght

I don't think it's that, he was up there as pound for pound number one. Both Lopez and Loma draw big crowds, I honestly think that would have been a factor for either of them so there wouldn't be an excuse if either lost. It's who's better on the night and that was clearly Lopez. But Loma deffo took too long feeling him out and trying to find gaps and it cost him, wasn't pro active enough. If he lost the 2nd fight then it's not just about who's better on the night, Lopez is clearly the better fighter in that instance.

Once you go up in weight classes, people can just take a punch to give a punch which is always tough for the smaller, technical man. And kudos to Lopez. He used his advantages and won the fight. Where was Lopez's victory? In the beginning, when Loma was too careful, he only hit the defense and a little into the body. When Loma started active boxing, Lopez missed all the punches in the head and sometimes hit himself. Round 8-12 Lopez could do nothing. Great victory

Loma had the perfect game plan. Allow the young fighter to gain confidence in the opening rounds while feeling him out, take over in the middle rounds and roll over him in the championship rounds. Both you guys have the best take in the whole comment section. Reading some of the comment you’d think this was a one sided beat down, but that’s not even remotely true. Lomachenko didn’t do shit the first 6 rounds but he wasnt getting beat up either. He definitely landed the best shots of the fight in 7,8,9,10,11 and the exchanges good shit in the 12th. I had Lopez winning or a draw as well. Some of those score cards are atrocious. Every big fight I’ve watched always has some bull shit going on.

Corrupt judges would have had it in favor of Loma...the favorite, pound for pound, ESPN star, new willie pep, greatest fighter ever...not Lopez...Loma got washed didn't throw punches for 6.5 to 7 rounds and got dominated in the 12th ..there are (7 to 8) rounds that you can make absolutely no argument that Loma won, they were dominant Teo rounds. Loma has maybe 2 clear rounds. The rest were preferential toss-ups. With 8 clear rounds for Teo, there was not a bad scorecard at all in this fight.

@@TerribleChaos I had Lopez 7-5. But there is an argument that Loma didn't win any of rounds 1-7. The rounds Lopez won decisively were 1,3,4,5,6 and 12. Rounds 2 and 7 were toss ups. I cant say Loma definitely took those rounds even though for me he took round 2 just barely. I can see why someone would have it 8-4 Lopez even after rewatching the fight I don't think I'd give Loma the 2nd round. Lomas decisive rounds werr 8 ,10, and 11. Round 9 was a toss up though I gave it to Loma.
