The FIA is partly to blame for all the antics in Jeddah for what they called the "Let them Race" aphorism and now want to go back to the rule book. @@a7G-82r Oh it started well before Silverstone. The difference there was Hamilton decided he wasn't going to keep taking avoiding action. When you get 2 drivers so closely matched it's always going to get feisty and when they are from different teams even more so. I just hope no-one gets killed/seriously injured. If they do the FIA will be to a large extent to blame for tolerating some of the antics going on. Having said all that it's what has made this such an exciting season.

Hint: who took the lead after the delayed red flag? When FIA turned a blind eye on the infamous “Verstappen defence” in Brazil and Michael Masi doing Verstappen’s offensive over taking in Saudi Arabia….Man, Verstappen doesn’t deserve to win when his own offense repertoire lately consists of diving inside and run people off track.

The FIA through their own actions has caused this entire mess of inconsistent rulings and bad precedents. Its one thing to blame the drivers, but when the FIA doesn't reflect on their own failings, the same thing will keep happening. Masi needs to go, the rules and race procedures needs to be reviewed, stewards need to enforce rules consistently. Blaming the drivers when the inconsistent rulings caused this entire mess in the first place is just trying to ditch responsibility.
@junsengjs
@junsengjs 2 роки тому
@@jacejohnson7113 No 2 incidents are exactly the same, so its justifiable for stewards to just give whatever penalty they feel like giving that day then? There have been "let them race" and penalties given out for similar incidents. What constitutes "let them race" and what constitutes a punishable offence? That is the gray area that the stewards need to explain. No two incidents are the exact same, but you can take reference from similar incidents. If the penalty is different from the reference incident, then of course they need to be able to explain what is the difference and why this incident warrants a heavier/lighter penalty
@marcwesterink7742

I agree on this one. When rules are introduced, they must be applied to everybody or nobody, but not to somebody and they must be applied at all times. What about the shenanigans from Mercedes with maintaining distance behind the safety car (both Bottas and Hamilton), or Hamilton getting a different penalty for not slowing down with double yellow flags? I guess it would help to have the same stewards at every race AND select them based on a proven record of neutrality. Please get rid of Garry Connelly since he's known to punish Verstappen when he sees the opportunity, he's too biased. And maybe use a bit more gravel instead of tarmacked runoff areas... To be clear, neither Red Bull or Mercedes are 'Saints' here. But I don't blame them if they see some rules can be bent and others can be broken and getting away with it. That's human nature, I'd have the same...
@rufusmainwaring3513
@rufusmainwaring3513 2 роки тому
Exactly, the 10 second penalty never would've happened if they had just told the teams (at the same time) that max needed to give the place back. They created the miscommunication, so don't give penalties when one driver thinks that the other knows something that they don't. Lewis probably assumed that Max's slowing was chiefly strategic, which led him to be more reluctant to pass. Max thought that lewis wasn't doing what he had been told to do, which made him frustrated that he was following the rules, and Lewis wasn't. Basically the FIA f'd it up, and should take responsibility upon themselves

All F1 drivers (even rookies) understand the trick of using DRS detection zone “strategically” and will continue to use it at every opportunity. Thus it might be time to implement a reg that when a driver must give back a position, they are prohibited from using DRS for one lap after the switch. This then removes the temptation to try and position yourself in the way the Max did in Saudi as there would be no benefit.
@MrSigmaDesign

@CustomCreations3
@CustomCreations3 2 роки тому
@@MrSigmaDesign that is a valid point but could be argued from both sides! On one hand if the position gained improperly is egregious enough to demand it be returned then perhaps a full lap without DRS is warranted. Having seen this back and now with a more calm head, Max is trying to give the place back but he wants to be close to Hamilton to pass again. So he doesn't commit to move off the racing line completely as doing that would not give him the run on Lewis. Lewis to me looks confused and suspicious of why Max is slowing and why in that specific area. So he wants to be cautious to not allow Max an advantage. Max sees that Lewis is not committed to pass until he fully understands the situation and is in the place to do so (with drs) so he tries to force Lewis to pass by braking. But he miscalculated and they touched.
@1000aquaboy
@1000aquaboy 2 роки тому
There's just one slight difference in my opinion. Lewis' brake test whine was actually Max slowing down even further so as to not cross the DRS detection zone earlier than Lewis and not a brake test. He must have felt the line closing in and with Lewis clinging to his gearbox he didn't want to commit the error of crossing first. Imagine two people wanting to be last to an imaginary line. The one in the front will always have to slow down more than the one behind. I still think this wasn't a penalty on Max and perhaps a penalty on Lewis/Merc for miscommunication. Anyways now that the championship has been decided, it is all going to be forgotten.

It's withing the regulations, there war no erratic breaking involved. And Bottas slowed down so they would not create traffic in the Mercedes box as Lewis and Bottas were called in the same time, not to slowing down Verstappen. Makes sense to slow down within the regulations to avoid having to wait and loose more time at the box.

Max was trying to be clever, give the place before the DRS zone but slow Lewis down enough that he couldn’t go past full throttle. The way he initially slows in the middle of the track is by design. If he lifts off and Lewis goes past at racing speed the DRS line is irrelevant because Lewis would probably gain a second gap in 100m due to the speed differential.
