Is there a difference between steel or aluminum tiller bolts? Do Precision Tiller Bolts reduce vibration in the shot? I use accelerometers and put three different sets of tiller bolts to the test on this Hoyt GMX 3 Series riser!

wish you made these for Gillos. So many barebow shooters use Gillo risers and vibration/noise is even a bigger problem in barebow.

Thank you for all testing you do and make available. I believe this sort of information “moves the ball forward” in the archery world and allows archers to go from “we think …” to “we know ….” - - very important in most endeavors.

Love this! Give me all the spectral data! I'd also say, you do a good job of explaining the difference between the instantaneous spectrum and the RMS values. This is a hard concept to most that don't live in the vibration world. Keep up the nerd content!

Just out of curiosity, have you done any speed tests comparing arrow speed with the different tiller bolts fitted? Logically you would think that the total energy in each shot is the same (if draw length is consistent at least), so if less energy is being "wasted" in vibration it has to be going somewhere, and the arrow seems most likely. Probably not a huge difference, I'm just wondering if it's even a detectable amount.

It would be interesting to try to blend the RamRods tungsten dampers INTO the precision tiller bolts, not only to "kill two birds with one stone", but I suspect it should really improve the dampening because of the location of the damper.

I'm not going to join out of principle. However, keep it up. I like your videos. I believe they have merit. I'll seriously look into the bolts. You're on the right track. I like the science in archery and a problem solving approach.

For our own tests please share info about the vibration sensor which was used. We tried with Piezo sensors, but they break by just looking on them.

I would find it interesting to also use precision “ILF nuts” or whatever the metal bushing on the limb is called. After all, a perfect fitting limb bolt is still only one of two side-to-side contact points.

Hi Jake! Perhaps this question is off topic, but I wanted to consult you if for both the AAE microclicker and the axcel sight mounting block, you use the standard length hex screws or use longer screws to tighten up both things into the riser? I'm having a tough time trying to mount both my sight and my microclicker plate on the sight holes of my riser because I ended up realizing the hex screws weren't large enough to tighten up both things and instead were slowly stripping out the riser's sight holes.

I always buy longer screws/bolts and saw them offf to exact MAXIMUM length.

Just buy long bolts in 6-32 and your problem is solved.

Wouldn't clear coat/Cyanoacrylate glue applied and sand down to perfection on the limbs "fork" work on the same principle? Because mostly it is not the tiller bolts problem but the limbs problem.
@JakeKaminskiArchery
@JakeKaminskiArchery Місяць тому
Yes and no. In this case in this particular video it was the tiller bolt that was the cause. The tiller bolts according to ILF standards are supposed to be 3/8” OD and limbs should also be 3/8” ID. 3/8” is 0.375” and the aluminum and steel tiller bolts measured 0.3715” OD with the ID of these limbs measuring 0.375” ID. These were the smallest Hoyt limbs ID that I have personally owned and were in spec… you could add clear to take up the slack, yes but will it be concentric? Are you going to accidentally build in a mis-alignment? Hard to say if it matters especially since we have adjustable pockets on basically all ILF bows. However for the money spent, and with basic machining standards you can easily hold tolerances that would prevent any of these issues…. We call the tiller bolts “precision” but they are not precision machined in the machining world.
@Australian_Made
@Australian_Made Місяць тому
@@JakeKaminskiArchery Yeah, the variations in tolerances, reminds me of ... Spanners 🔧 and bolts 🔩. Take for example:- ~~~ 17mm hex. The width of the physical bolt head is ALWAYS NARROWER than 17mm!!! For a 17mm Open-Ended Spanner, the width of the gap of the physical jaws is ALWAYS WIDER than 17mm!!! IF I RECALL CORRECTLY, the answers FROM manufacturers is "'our spanners are wider, to ACCOMMODATE for the variations from those bolt makers'". On-The-Other-Hand ~~~ "'our bolts are narrower, to ACCOMMODATE for the variations from those spanner makers'". 🤷‍♀️ 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♀ Are you flammin' kidding me??! Hey Spanner Makers, NO 17mm bolts are made larger than spec.!!! You surely DON'T NEED to ALLOW for over-spec'ed hex heads!!! Hey Bolt Makers, NO 17mm spanners are made smaller than spec.!!! You surely DON'T NEED to ALLOW for under-spec'ed open-ended spanners!!! STOP ACCOMMODATING for 0·200mm bad tolerances from the OTHER guys. Your combined efforts CAN LEAD TO up to 0·4mm issues to proper fit [@ 17mm]!!! 🤷‍♀️ 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♀ ️

Do you think your data will influence elite archers who are looking for every advantage whether it be 1 or 2 points or 1 to 2 mm in group size?
@arnegunnarsson3919
@arnegunnarsson3919 29 днів тому
Those tiller bolts are probably great! But I wonder if you are overshooting the target with the measurements you made? Definitely good for bow makers! But does the average shooter really have any use for the numbers you came up with? I don't think they feel any difference and above all they won't improve the results of an average shooter. I'm not saying this to criticize your tiller bolts or your measurements you made. But it would be appropriate to tell the great mass of archers that it is only practice and re-practice that makes you a better archer.
