Man,vice was something else 15 years ago.

Am Ugandan and this video really brings out the truths about the alcohol consumption in Uganda.It's just that 70% of alcohol consumed is local brew especially from Banana and sorghum.More has to be done to sensitize folks against intake of alcohol

I love how he said that you only need half a liter of strong alcohol per head to get drunk. I'm Polish, I know how to drink, but even I know that's a lot of fucking alcohol per one person.

They're pretty good at pouring liquid into a small bottle without a funnel. That's how you know they really do this everyday

i met a family up in the almeria hills making hooch. was an unforgettable meet, beautiful 4 generations of family and everything started to visually sparkle. it was beautiful. clean. no problem driving to the coast.

This documentary is so good, it reminds me of the legendary film Mondo Cane, although this doc might be even better due to the great attitude of the host.

Thomas did a great job. He had a good attitude,and as a result the people warmed to him and were open to share their lives with him. Very well done documentary 🙂

Being a Ugandan film maker myself, I appreciate how well you captured the environment. Not to say this represents my regular day, but if I had to do a documentary about alcohol in relation to Uganda, I'd probably not have done as well as you did. That you were able to scout out these environments and capture the raw behavior is amazing. Kudos. That being said, we do love a drink in the pearl.

the organic waragi is probably pretty tastey and i think i could be correct as the narrator confirmed it tasted pretty clean. i suspect it to be strong but tasty. i make a lot of home brew stuff myself not so much distilling but it doesnt matter, quality of the base ingredients is basically what matters for flavor of a drink

Geez, dude, you could have brought a couple of alcohol meters or hydrometers with you to measure the alcohol %. they are dirt cheap. I would love to know the strength of these distillates. also, I would love to know the ABV of the Low wines (the juice after initial fermentation before distillation). In fact, it would have been great if you took along someone who knows all about Distilling alcohol for consumption.

Imagine waking up at like 9pm, on the dirt, flies on your face, and you are hungover as hell off some banana booze. No shower. No toilet. No Waffle House.

That was a village party for a North American TV crew in town. They wanted to show off their life. Sure people drink a lot each day, but not that much every day. Could you imagine if you had a bunch of foreigners come in town that you've never seen before (outside of media)? You'd want to show them the best. See how many of the older women are wearing the best dresses? They also slaughter a larger goat. They must've been saving it for a special occasion. You think that goat just grew that big in the wild? It's an agricultural community, which means men work in the mornings 'til midday-ish, and women mostly stay at home taking care of children and doing lots of cooking and cleaning etc. It's a good story but without context of living there for a couple of months, the story is not always "everyday life." Methanol and Acetone are natural biproducts of the fermentation process--at least when fermenting fruit juice. Because both have a lower boiling point than Ethanol, They're the first product to be come out of the still. Because they smell like paint thinner, it's easy to detect--when all of this is distilled out of the wine, the product will smell like the fruit from which the wine is made, and safe to drink...
