I had the privilege of meeting him during the 90s, in the US. I was working at the theatre he was headlining. Funny beyond belief, he had them crying, mostly young university students, and they cheered him for three encores. Then we, the crew, had pizza and he sat and told us jokes for another hour. What a man.

The reason why it’s funny it’s because well explaining that the two people are hidden behind the trees he says that the chorus starts playing, he says that nobody knows why signifying that and not the musicians not the composer not even the actors, this is because Mozart was the only one that knew why and that very moment the chorus was playing but for the people remaking the scene, they were just doing what was on the script. So when he says that Mozart is the only one that knows what was going on but he’s dead it’s just a matter of fact joke and there is no punchline, it’s just unexpected

Courios eyes like those of a child, but with a twinkle that says "Funny, eh? Got'cha there!". We don't even have to mention his musical talent. He didn't even WANT to be funny. He just found out that he was and he went out there to let us enjoy this with him.

True story.My brother George Groot was a piano tuner and he tuned the Grand piano for Victor Borge in the 1940`s in the Civic Auditorium in Grand Rapids,Michigan and about 6 years later he came again to give a concert and after him meeting hundreds of people all over the world my brother was touching up the piano before the concert and Victor walked in and said Well,hello George!

What a nice thing for your bro and what a rare personality this virtuoso guy !
@bellator36916 років тому
I will humbly apologize in advance, sir. But........you are GROOT!
@jeffj24956 років тому
What a stunning story. And to have Victor Borge remember that after 6 years is just amazing.
@oldgoat3816 років тому
As one of the current generation of piano tuners I would be ecstatic if someone like Victor Borge remembered me when I tuned their piano for a concert

Victor was part of a world of such talented and polished performers and artists who had amazing discipline, knowledge and skill. They made it all look so effortless. My philosophy teacher said "a genius makes the complicated and difficult look simple ."

Victor Borge was also hilariously funny when interviewed. I've seen video clips of him on the Tonight Show way back when Jack Paar was host and he had the audience absolutely roaring with laughter.

Revelation 22:16 ✝🌅 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 ✝🌅 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. Growing up my father was a great fan of Victor Borge. I was living with my wife in Connecticut and invited my father and his girlfriend up from NYC. They were both in there late 60's. We purchased tickets, killing our budjet, for my fathers birthday to see Victor's performance at the then New Fairfield Playhouse. Halfway thru the performance they were both asleep snoring. We were mortified and worried he would see them and make them part of his show. In retrospect I wish he had!

He was too nervous to play serious recitals, that's why he can't be a serious concert pianist. He find comedic pianist more comfortable, it suits him better But he still practise many hours a day, which gives him great technique and sound touch

"She's a big soprano -she's about 4 and a half feet tall... lying down!" was the line that made me fall in love with Victor Borge, when I heard it, in my childhood, on a Royal Command performance concert on television and it stayed with me, all these years! I always longed to see the rest of the routine again. Thank-you for uploading this.
@francisfoster21774 роки тому
I LEFT the USNAVY in 1956 oand took my dad to a d Borge show in Boston, had many laughs and good time. My dad could not carry a tune in a basket, but he certainly enjoyed the performance There are many in the entertainment world that can pla the piano, BUT, to play as well as he did was a masterpiece and a lot of fun. I miss my dad, passed in 1997, mother passed in 1991
