Hey Everyone! Sorry the video was a little later than usual, I was making some last minute changes. Also, for those of you who use the subtitles, it will take a bit of time for them to be ready given the last minute upload. Thank you for your patience. I Hope you all enjoy the analysis, I had to cut down a lot of what I filmed because it was getting very long so you might notice i skipped over a few things we've talked about a lot in other videos (like one-sided shoulder shrugs and mouth shrugs) but I am very happy with the things I did cover on this, I think there was a lot of great subtleties to the words he was choosing. Enjoy 🤗!

I am hearing impaired and had to wait for the closed captions but it’s ok! It was worth it. Great analysis of this interview. I didn’t feel Dan Schneider was genuine at all really. How easy it is to say now, 20-25 years later, that had someone said something you would’ve cut this or that out 😐 what matters is what you said and did THEN and that you were not approachable and people were afraid to say they were uncomfortable. Why take the money and the reputation with nickelodeon and then complain about it? Lmao. Alot of the stuff spoke about is funny kids TV. You just have a bunch of pervert adults that are looking back now. Like if they didn't have dirty thoughts then it wouldn't be seen so bad just like when it was first aired. Reminds me of a narcissistic friend. She had "many friends", yet couldn't deal with humans, no empathy, couldn't behave properly, didn't care about boundaries to name a few. I was a very quiet person, didn't talk much, closed off. When I went abroad for 1 year, I dealt with many different other foreign students and locals, learned a lot how to behave and treat different ppl, got open-minded etc. It's just a red flag for me, if someone isn't changing for the "better". What is 1 of the main themes we lately hear so much about since Jeffrey E's story. Not only in the US but also here in Europe. It seems a big thing everywhere. What about the transmovement so highly promoted even by presidents and the pope. Is it an agenda. What about the explicit sexual education of our children. It is interesting to look up what the who and UNICEF write in their rights for children. It seems as if they are preparing society for the P-word: children have to have the rights parents won't grant them at such a young age, so the laws will give them what they "want and deserve"...
@jonbrewer297
@jonbrewer297 Місяць тому
@@bonsense7004 Speaking of deflections, what about trans people? They're irrelevant to this. (And pretty much when I was a kid, sex ed was "penis goes in vagina, nine months later baby". That's how explicit it is today, for that matter.) Also, the Convention on the Rights of the Child explicitly includes the right to be free from sexual exploitation. But can't spell Don Quixote without Q. No, this was rich people exploiting their money and power to exploit the most vulnerable. Now, what about a certain former US president who used to peek in on Miss Teen USA contestants changing? And was friends with Epstein, hmm? Hmm? Hmm? I'm just Saiyan...

I had to pause the video to address the line of adult jokes in kid movies. What stood out to me instantly using Ratatouille as the example is that the characters are adults. When I’m watching a kids movie and the adult characters make a reference or joke, it’s funny and relatable because you’re seeing the adult character doing/thinking like adults. It is ALWAYS awkward and inappropriate when a child is the one saying or referencing an adult comment/situation. It doesn’t match in our minds and I think that’s what creates that discomfort.
@amandamandamands
@amandamandamands Місяць тому
Yes in Shrek the comments that Shrek make are great inuendo and are done in such a way that an adult can still come up with a kid friendly explanation for what it was they were laughing at and most of the time it was Shrek saying them. Agree that it is very different hearing an adult saying inuendo than a child.

I've been at friends houses while their kid is watching a cartoon and the characters make adult-ish jokes that kids don't understand. The kids just keep watching and don't pick up on the fact it was a joke, they just absorb it as normal dialog. I've looked at the kids to see if their facial gestures indicate that they get the joke, but are pretending that they don't. The jokes harmlessly fly over their heads and entertain the adults who are stuck watching the show.

I love how in this entire interview, harassment and almost criminal behaviour is minimized to "I wasn't always the nicest guy." Nobody's expecting a producer, writer, director or creator to be the second coming. They expect that he or she will act like a professional and focus on the job in accordance with the law and company policy. You don't have to be a "nice guy" to not harass someone. These aren't your friends. They're co-workers and employees. You don't have to start chatting about your private lives. Just use common sense. "I was immature." That's not immaturity. It's not a common look for children so it is the selling point. In order to achieve that they have to be pushed to that emotion or have to be able to tap into it from experience. My question is why are people believing these people and there were so many other employees that are not involved with this just a handful or even a few, what makes what they are claiming factual because it's going with the narrative or because there's evidence of anything? Boogie doesn't bring these things up and Dan doesn't even know about half the conspiracy theories about him that are out there but I am very curious as to why people don't look at both sides of the coin and make people like Brian Peck or Jason handy to be a side dish compared to Dan Schneider when these people have legitimate convictions against them for things that they did do and there's evidence of, just saying not say Dan is Innocent by all means because I see both sides of the coin he could also be everything people are saying but there's also a great chance that people that for instance are these employees, like adult employees back then, have been released from the business or quit for so long why didn't they just say something back then and I don't mean back then as in like 1996 back then I mean like 2010 and 2008 they didn't have anything to lose but everything to gain but now all of a sudden they come out yet there's a bunch of other employees I'm sure that have been involved that are not saying anything and people will immediately think they were probably in on all of the madness and don't want to expose themselves and I'll just sit there and say or they don't even realize that there's so much conspiracy going on that they don't participate also it's kind of screwed up that people that say they didn't have the same experiences others are called Schneider supporters or this or that when they're not denoting other people's experiences they are just saying they didn't experience the same thing that's another thing that is a little bizarre about the Public's Mass opinion

As a kid growing up in the early 2000's, Nickelodeon was one of my favorite channels to watch [other than Suit Life]. I loved watching "iCarly," "Drake & Josh," "Victorious" and "The Amanda Show." As a kid, I never understood those inappropriate jokes at all and I enjoyed the silliness of the shows. When I was 13, I joined "The Slap" because I wanted to be noticed by my favorite people. However, now that I'm in my late 20's and I rewatch any of those shows, I'm disgusted at seeing all the adult content in the shows. I'm so ANGRY with Dan Schneider that he did those things to ADULT WOMEN. Even going so far as going into a HOT TUB [fully clothed or NOT] with Amanda Bynes when she was *16*?! Sickening!!! The fact that he even LET two PDF-files near f*cking CHILREN is mind boggling!!! And that Brian Peck's LAWYERS had called up ALL of *Brian's* friends to write a letter to the JUDGE handling Drake Bell's SA's case under a LIE!!! And it was proven in a statement from one of Brian's friend's who made a statement about how she was SORRY because she was "under the presumption that it was a different matter." There was SO many PEOPLE there to support Brian AT COURT and literally NOBODY was there to support Drake! Dan Schneider is a master manipulator and a Grade A Douchecaneo~!!! P.S. His therapist comment sounds to me as if, in his perspective, the issue is not sexual harassment of children, but that for him, the children who have issues on set are those that aren't "ready to do what it takes to get famous". I think this is terrifying. This man and how he talks sends chills down my spine. Furthermore, wasn't Drakes mother, whom he describes as wonderful, extremely neglectful towards Drake? I don't know any mother who would let her kid sleep over at a wayy older coworkers place to save gas and time. For me, this seemed very negligent, especially when you contrast her with the father. This would also explain how Dan knew that it was Drake, as that was a question I had after the documentary as seemingly the rest of the set didn't know. All in all, this interview makes him even more suspicious and just goes to show how little it all means to him. He's throwing himself a pity party.

I appreciate your take on this, i worked with offenders of SA AND dv at the beginning of my career. Some truly have regret and shame for their beahviors and there inability to reframe from acting on impulse. Some apologize because they were caught, and they are now seen for their preditory behaviors, they know people want them to apologize. As a client said years ago. "You apologize for spilled milk, you dont apologize for when you hurt someone". Knowing one is truly sorry and regretful only comes with time after you stopped hurting people. I greatly appreciate you discussing this topic and not showing the videos, those kids were exploted enough. These kids at times had their parents on set, and they didnt say anything due to the money and fame. Your other question, was where is the line for something being inappropriate. Everyone has their own threshold, for each individual they have to ask themself "does this make me uncomfortable" go with your gut, teach your children they have automony over their body and a right to tell someone "no".
@qs2668
@qs2668 Місяць тому
Spidey I think with "making sure the kid wants to be there" he's referring to situations like with Jennette McCurdy. It was her mother who decided Jennette would become an actress, and Jennette booked roles because she was talented and gave her best because her purpose in life was to make mom happy. She never wanted that carrier herself. A good therapist might be able to detect where the motivation is coming from
@mythical.craftstarot

Regarding what “adult jokes” are appropriate for kids and not: An animated cartoon with a very subtle innuendo is completely different than a child acting out an inappropriate gesture. The visual nature of it is the main problem. There is dialog that is just blatantly sexual, not a subtle winkwink, that is just straight up grooming.

The way he pretended to cry about helping Drake Bell's mother tells me all I need to know about this man. He's a full on manipulator that doesn't feel bad for anything he's done. I think he's actually pissed off that these people had the temerity to call him out. This has been a known thing for years. I first heard about it over 5 years ago from a UKposts video. Yet Schneider waited until this big production to address it because he thought it would just fly under the radar. Some of the scenes I've seen look exactly like they were written by a child predator for other child predators and a softball interview that seems almost scripted isn't going to convince me otherwise. This dude has a ton of darkness in him and he spread that darkness around and traumatized too many people. The really sad part is that he's not the first, he won't be the last and it seems that those who mistreat others are the ones who truly thrive in Hollywood.

Spidey, I agree with you on this except for one thing, which derives from my own clinical experience. I believe Dan is victim-blaming when he suggests therapists should be on-set. It’s subtle but definitely revelatory of his true perspective. He is suggesting that the complaints by these child actors arise because they were unsuitable to the task, they were in the wrong careers, they shouldnt have been on the set at all. It’s the “casting couch” myth, all over again. A part of him still believes these actors and staffers should have submitted to the abuse and accepted his dominance of them. They should, he believes evidently, have “closed their eyes and thought of Hollywood”. (I dont know if you get that Victorian/British reference?)

Clearly, he's not sorry for anything he did to anyone. He's just trying to save his reputation. I think he failed. And BTW, it is NOT common practice in television to take two writers who are not already partners and make them split a salary. Absolutely not. I've worked in scripted TV in LA for decades. Not only is it not done, the union would not stand for it. Frankly, any agent who agrees to this needs to be dropped. Now, if a writing team gets hired together (not put together by the show), then they do split the writers feel as if they're only one person because they do not work separately from each other, so their writing output equals that of one person.
