As a heavy light user( night security) most of these points are non problems. I own the entire javelot line, mini, mini tac, pro and pro turbo, all of them are awesome. The belt javelot mini is awesome with its on board battery only. The javelot pro turbo is a great thrower and a good baton substitute. I also have all the warrior line up and they take a huge backseat to the javelot for security-related purposes.

Looks good but Acebeam L17 is cheaper and longer throw. And it use regular 18650. edit in 2024: ive got this, its better then i thought, better then the L17, LumintopGTA or SofirnIF22A that i own. i was wrong, sorry.

As a newbie to edc and flashlights, Olight has me wrapped around their little finger…every month. I love your videos as I always learn something from you, as well as, the comments that you get from others. Thanks for your videos and the time you spend doing them. (And yes I have those two ODG lights and the zombie headed my way but you make a very valid point!)

I'm a railroad conductor and I bought this light to keep in my pocket as a backup for my required carry company provided lantern. The small package and long throw are perfect for what I would need it for. Imagine trying to make a joint on a dangerous black tank car in pitch black darkness and your lantern fails...this light should be perfect for what I intend to use it for.

Having just taken delivery on the Olight Javelot Mini, I find your points are all very well taken. Since I have many other Olights, Nitecore and Fenix I'm not worried about being feature deprived but do enjoy comparing flashlights, feature-for-feature. The only point with this one that I would care to dispute is that most cases or pouches for flashlights carry them reflector-up, so positioning it in the hand with the tail switch under the thumb is equally difficult or easy for any carried on the belt. However Nitetcore does make belt mounted hard plastic scabbards with the bezel down although they don't get everyone's approval based on not always holding them securely. Picking up the Javelot Mini was more of a whim for me to check out the throw, but battery capacity and ergos, has you have indicated, leave a few things to be desired. I prefer the Olights that give me the option of tail switch or side switch since I'm not always operating my light at shoulder level on evening walks. 👍🔦👊

Make sure you watch the torcher test for these lights the tact mount on the olights is very cheap and doesn't last. I've had 5 olights and 3 stopped working and the rear button on one didn't hold back rain and it hardly works now...

Very complete coverage! They did the tails with right, so the light will tailstand protect from accidental activation. I agree that it should be an 18650 light. Proprietary batteries & charging systems are a deal killer for me. Also, I'm a side button user, no tail switches.

I was looking at the Javelot mini in the aspect of, that's the light that's sitting by your backdoor not for a defensive matter or an EDC. I have many Olights and I carry the Warrior 3 everyday the one thing I don't like is I can't use the magnet like I can with my other Olights. The warrior 3 is to heavy to hold. This light is cool that you can use that function.

I passed on the Javelot Mini for two reasons. #1 Was that it had no moonlight setting. #2 Was that I am not a tactical user, and I prefer the side mount button rather than the rear clicky. If I needed throw, I would probably get a Lumintop Ant Man LEP. I wish Olight made a similar light to the Ant Man.

You can bay charge the Olight batteries with a collar around the positive terminal by sticking a neodymium magnet to the positive to complete the circuit. The positive terminal on a normal battery is just a bit of metal sticking up to make a connection, so it's not really any less safe with the magnet attached.

Damn, I ordered the mini thinking it would be a great little thrower to compliment my edc (s1r baton 2 on olink/warrior mini) and a smaller than my warrior x turbo for weapon mount... Disappointed to know it doesn't accept the pressure switch!

1:30 That's very important point you mentioned there. Suppose if I have to light up the room then what should be the ideal candela (beam intensity) and lumens ? I am asking this because I am confused between Fenix C7 (55000 candela) and Wurkkos TS11S (70000 candela)

I have the tactical version with the finger ring and I use it every night. You can you it for close up and not be blinded. The white light is very forgiving and doesn't screw up my night vision. Battery life has been outstanding so far. I have a shit load of flashlights, from Amazon specials to higher end lights and I find the Olight to be very dependable and affordable.

I bought the Tac, but the mount is not removable... I was not planning to pocket carry it anyway, I will mount it on a rifle at some point. For now I think it will be my bedside thrower

I have the county comm ez throw. Can use 18650 and 21700 USB c rechargeable. Even has a constant on switch to find easier at night.

Olight is really trying to hit the “duty light” mark with the Javalot Mini. The holster is ideal for a duty belt and is quite similar to something like a Streamlight Strion. Outside of that, it is too big for EDC.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but the holster for the Javelot Mini fits my MOLLE gear just fine. Other than that, I liked your analysis. And yes, that beam pattern is BEAUTIFUL!!!! And for me, there is no contest between getting the Javelot Turbo or the Javelot Mini… I own both! LOL

If you want a great “pocket” thrower that’s edc friendly, the Emisar D1 is really good. You can choose from several different emitters as well as get some with high CRI. They do take your normal 18650 battery.

Just pre ordered one of the Marauder Minis, ships in two weeks. Can't wait to get it!

It actually does fit on a molle vest. It’s just super hard to get the holster off. So make sure it’s where you want it before you actually slip it in. (I’m basing this off off the prototype the sent out for yellow diamond members. They changed the knurling on the released to the public version. So they might have changed the holster size. Doesn’t look like it tho.)

Is the javelot sheath compatible with any other thrower flashlights from any other brands? Sofirn if22a?

It may be just how the light was manifactured,my WM2's button is hard to half press and unless you really just mash it into strobe it doesn't want to stay on half press.

I can confirm that holster fits into stabproof mole vest no problem. Only downside is (can be upside depending on use) it’s hard to get it off the molle, so if anyone going to place it to molle, make sure you pick the right spot 😂

For those considering Olights with proprietary batteries, realize that as soon as Olight decides its not "financially viable", they will discontinue making those batteries (its already happened) so you better hope that the light will function with standard batteries. Otherwise you'll have a really expensive paper weight.

Outstanding points brought up. Although this Olight has a fantastic beam profile its not really a EDC thrower. The Thrunite TN12 PRO and to a lesser degree the Sofirn IF22a, both being easier to carry and use and both much less expensive.

The issue with the Tac version is the mount doesnt come off the light, so you have this awkward metal piece along the body of the light.

first - i really dont like molly stuff. I say that as someone who spent 10 actual years of my life between iraq and afghanistan. 7 years as a contractor and 3 army deployments. Second, if you really want that holster on molly... it's plastic. just cut a slot down the middle of the clip so it spans 2 molly slots or trim the clip to fit in one molly slot... or use a molly pouch (realistically a better option than the plastic holster) That said, I would prefer this be 21700 and the same specs as the javelot 2 pro with shorter runtimes... Essentially a cut in half javelot 2 would be ideal for this light.

When I look up "olight torture test" I can find lots of videos, many different models. When I look up "_ _ _ _ torture test".....hardly any at all, even combined. I'll go with Olight.

I'm tired of everyone from phones to flashlights trying to hold their customers hostage to proprietary batteries. The original Warrior Mini is the last Olight that I bought. Haven't seen one since that I'm willing to buy because of it. Of course the way they do short production runs and then change to some newer, fancier model with a redesigned body or whatever rather than keep a model in production for more than a year will also keep me from really supporting them.

No talk of the lites run time? Thats very important to me, who wants a lite that consumes its batteries quickly!

Probably nothing on your end, but I regularly get limited to 360p on your videos but not other channels, really weird quirk of YT. Anyway, on the light: You don't really seem to be compartmentalizing them as they're intended to be. The Tac version is probably good if you have a rifle and want to put it on there, but if you don't then the rail system seems like a weird ergo nuisance without the ring, and using a tac ring like that is very very much a preference. The non-tac is intended for people not carrying rifles, people that wear duty belts/vests (the various first responders, guards, search and rescue, even maintenance). If you have no need for mounting to a weapon... and so no need to use a remote switch, then the Tac version is more expensive inconvenience unless you really really like being locked into the carry ring (which would force you to orientate the light in one direction in the holster). The only thing I'd maybe like to see is compatibility with that clip on section the Warrion mini uses for the tac ring, which for all I know right now might fit anyway. The holster would take some getting used to, but that's not really a negative if you're looking for specialized application, which is what the light is for, not general EDC. I...also really don't get the bay charger thing, if you really want to you can do it with a magnet (as already suggested) which is no more sketchy than throwing 10440s into lights that explicitly say not to. But this isn't the kind of light that is going to be used hours on end continuously, in real life applications the mag charging should be more than sufficient, especially since you have a lot of feedback when you start getting down in power.

I imagine Police Officers would appreciate the clip, because it would easily fit on a duty belt.

Or you could not buy those crap lights at all and get like Ace beam that goes 1600 meters or Nightcore which also makes some pretty awesome throwers and if you want to go cheap Lumintop and thrunite and sofirn make awesome budget throwers but that free stuff anyone can be sold with free products

Difference between 18650 and 18500 is 15mm not 150mm. 150mm is 15cm which is 5.9 inches. That would be enormous! Great info nonetheless, thank you!

It’s not 150 mm shorter it’s 15 mm short my guy 18650 is 18 around and 65 long the 18500 is the same just 50 long the 0 at the end represents the shape of the battery

Great review. I agree with your comments about throw distance. I have never understood why companies focus so much on lights that have a long throw distance. It makes no sense in an EDC light. Personally, I'd like to see what is right around me--novel concept. :)

I will stay with my Warrior X lights (NOT the PRO)... They can use any 18650 I have tried. They have basically the same power lvls and run times. The Tac version looked promising... Proprietary battery is a complete FAIL, once again.

Great review! Lame ass battery!! They should have definitely used an 18650 so you could get up to 3600mah!! So what if it made the light a little longer.
