I don’t doubt your statistic, but by what measure? Total deaths or percentage of deaths? If it’s the latter, it could mean if there are 5 deaths a year out of 100 wingsuit flyers then that’s a 5% mortality rate. Versus skydivers where that might be 10 deaths out of 5000, giving a .2% rate.

@@thefolder69 Well between this and the "iron man" jetpack system, I think it won't be long. I imagine a lightweight but powerful exoskeleton to prevent your arms and legs breaking from the forces being applied by the electric jets. Combine it with a wingsuit and probably this chestmounted thing too and you could fly from hover and also high speeds like this.

Well you obviously have never been in a wing suit before because after 5 minutes contorting your body like that with those g-forces you're pretty exhausted so I'm not sure what anybody would need longer than 5 minutes for but you should get out there and get off of UKposts and go do it you probably like it then you can talk about getting one of those jetpacks and maybe you could be the person that gets it longer than 5 minutes

The weight of the batteries is the real issue. For the past 12 years, I've been flying and testing RC airplanes using the same system he is using. The one limitation has been the weight of 12 cell LiPo batteries. But in the last 7 years battery technology has improved. The size of his fan units are similar to the 120mm fan units I fly with.

exactly, the title and general tone of the video are a bit misleading. At the very least they should follow up with a video on Yves, and maybe even do a compare and contrast and even maybe sponsor a "Ford vs Ferrari" type analysis.

Yes, and there are multiple versions of powered personal flight devices already in use, wingsuits and otherwise, using different propulsion technology. Electrically propelled parachutes / paramotors have been around for several years, and they can certainly climb above their release altitude just like other powered wingsuits can. The piece is quite misleading in those respects.

I think we will see more of this. I had an idea of using a bike for momentum and then popping out some sort of back mounted glider while you quickly fold the bike up.. There are folding wheels out there which would probably be the biggest hurdle. A back mounted glider that could quickly open and shut would be another. Then how to fold the mid jump. Honestly though....freaking cool. If people can't do that now, they soon will be. Or found something better.

Air that moves past a surface faster has less effect on that surface. Therefore, it is unwise to mount propulsion to the bottom of the aircraft (yes, your body *IS* the aircraft with a wingsuit). Put them on your back, and you'll have much better lift. Put the parachute on the front, but be sure to reverse the hangers at the shoulders else you'll glide backwards. Simply turnover to stomach-up to pull chute.

If you can mount a vector thrust pipe at the feet exit, folding at knees, instead of the chest thrusting drag over legs, one can freely navigate, doing scissors, loops, even rotation by hip, we tried that with a low fuel level flare booster, so electric would be dynamic, longer, perhaps much safer.
