Really neat to see basic networking in minecraft! I'm a sysadmin that's spent way too much time learning about routing and switching, it's really neat to see it broken down into binary logic. Quick suggestion: It may be worth trying to add some basic error-checking into the messages. One easy (albeit imperfect) way is to implement a parity bit. You'd need another line, but you could probably send it over the routing line. You could set a rule such as "all traffic must have an even number of bits sent over-the-wire", and then enable the parity bit when transmitting bytes with odd numbers of characters. That way, if the recipient ever gets an odd number, they know to order a retransmission. Realistically, it may be easier to have some sort of kill signal that can be sent to the sender, and then a loopback in the RAM that doesn't get cleared unless the message was sent with no issues.

Bro basic?????
@AtocStowwe
@AtocStowwe Місяць тому
@@user-qr9yw3eb2t Parity bits are one of the most basic means of error-checking, sans something like checksums. As far as computer science goes, parity bits aren't too complicated. For example, assume we're transmitting bytes (8 bits, 1s and 0s) on 8 lines and a parity bit on the 9th, and we're using the same "there must be an even number of bits" rule. Here's a couple of numbers as an example: (Dec) (Binary) (Parity) (# bits) 1 0000 0001 1 1+1=2 2 0000 0010 1 1+1=2 3 0000 0011 0 2+0=2 10 0000 1010 0 2+0=2 100 0110 0100 1 3+1=4 255 1111 1111 0 8+0=8 It can get *way* more complicated than this, but the overall work that it'd take to implement something like this is another line, some comparison logic, retransmission signals, and a loopback in the RAM.

YOU DID A THING!!!! I'm so PROUD of you Branzy and Rekrap. You guys both learned a LOT about how the internet works. Now, since you're limited to 26 endpoints, try expanding that to over 1000 endpoints. (similar to going from IPv4 to IPv6). Good luck!

The worst that someone can do with an IP address is to DoS you and get a rough location. But most residential internet connections use dynamic IPs that change anyway (probably between the videos recording and release) and most ISPs would likely force a change if you called their support. 18:25 Funnily enough, this is one of the few things in the video i DID understand, rather clearly I was a little surprised when Branzy didn't but I guess i've had my head in game programming nonsense long enough for that to stick So because i want to explain it, i'll do so The information that the ram is getting, due to some specific way the redstone repeater works Not only holds onto the information for longer than it's supposed to, it ends up holding the information long enough for the system to interpret it as double Like let's say for example, you were at a grocery store, scanning a box of cereal And for some delirious reason you choose to hold the box over the scanner for a prolonged period of time, and the scanner, not knowing what to do, thinks that you scanned two boxes of cereal I know that's not how scanners probably work (probably) irl but, that should give you a clear example of what went wrong here Hopefully that was enlightening!

For the displays, you could use a single decoder, which spits out 16 bits, which are then moved and stored in each letter/pixel of the display. If you wanted to be really lazy, you could just use a shift register. A naive implementation would start at the first character and shift all the characters right on every insertion, which would be slow (moving all the items every character insertion) and would require you input the text in reverse order (Hello -> olleH). A better solution would be to move the items from the last character backwards. The only problem being that on every insertion, the 16 bits must travel from the end to the first empty character. A clever workaround would be to operate on line by line basis. Which can mean either of these things: - allow only whole lines to be sent, with the current line stored in a buffer with ability to delete the last character - each line having an indicator, if the right most character is occupied, meaning you have to start inserting into the next line. the second workaround would also avoid the ugly circuit of looping from the first character of the line to the line above, while the second would bypass the issue altogether. In both cases, you would need to have a "move up" circuit, which would move each character exactly one line up, which shouldn't be hard to implement. With this, you could implement a screen which can store as much text as needed. The overflow (what comes out of the top line) could either be discarded or automatically sent.

this reminds me of the time when I was able to send all the information through one Redstone Dust line to another system I then also built a programmable Storage on which games such as snake could be calculated I think I also have a world where I have a built-in 3D scanner and a 3D printer that places blocks layer by layer I miss the old days when I used to build systems in Minecraft almost every day. Now I mainly do it in real life with relays.

Wow, okay, here's the part that absolutely amazes me. In their quest to simplify the concept of "the Internet" enough that they could build it in Minecraft, these guys accidentally ended up reinventing/rediscovering something far older: the teletype machine (and telex). No really, the similarities are striking: like here, messages sent on a teletype machine would be prepared right before sending, then sent at a fixed rate using a 5-bit-per-character code (though teletype sent the bits serially, not 5-at-a-time like here). Teletype machines could be connected directly to each other through a fixed line, or connected to the telex network, which also used circuit-switching (where a physical connection would be set up for an exchange to happen before the connection is torn down) vs. the packet-switching of the Internet (routers do not set up a physical connection; they forward messages along individually, kinda like a post office sorting mail). The telex network even used automated switches that could set up a link by reading a routing code sent before the message, much like the one-letter "IP address" shown here. Bravo, Branzy and rekrap2. Just like the engineers of a century ago, you looked at the limitations of your technology and designed a telecoms system that did the job beautifully. Great minds really do think alike!

It's more of a bus than a network, but a network's architecture is all up to the designer In a true sense, it's an Interconnected Network (Inter-net)

You did - as someone who had no idea what redstone is🤣- a great job! But i got a challange for you and rek: Try combining all ethernet lines to one -tip: encoder- and built a system that can detect what computer it shall send the msg when you have multiple in computers in one world/server.

This work is stunning and very complicated and comforting when it works in the end Definitely can be redesigned for being faster giving a use for the new calibrated sculk sensors which literally sends signals as a wifi, Making it 16 GB Ram and 64 bits haha😅

You can just make a bit with 3 repeaters arranged in a triangle and the output is looped back into one of the inputs. You can break the connection between the output and one of the inputs with a piston to reset that bit.

As cool as it is: This is not an "Internet", it is not even a network, it's just two devices that can send characters to each other over multiple parallel wires. This would be considered an electrical telegraph which was in use since the 1840s. Sure, it has send/receive buffer and a fancier display than the old analog devices, but there's still a huge amount of technology missing to make it expandable to a whole network of devices!

I'm pretty sure adding the router (arguably a switch) at the end of the video qualifies for basic networking and could expand to multiple devices with their IP (MAC) addresses.

You can make this even better by linking these computers up to Wireless Redstone Machines (there are tutorials on UKposts) so that you can not only transport signals without the massive redstone track, but can also link up multiple computers at the same time
