I feel like the male emu is the protector and the female is the alarm. He will get up to turn the eggs and clean the nest. He may not be successful but he’s learning. Team Nuggo.

Perhaps since female Emus are as a rule more aggressive than males, Goldie is in guard mode and sits there in a protective position.

It seems Goldie and Nugget have something in common with Brooke and Jason - amazing teamwork! Such mutual support is a beautiful thing. I remember Nugget was so active during his younger years, running and doing little hops - it was adorable. I doubt I would be able to accomplish anything if I was around such precious behavior, I would be fascinated just trying to carch every second possible. And you will probably/ hopefully have at least 8 baby emus at one time! WOW! That will be so entertaining and adorable. At Little Cog it was fairly easy to observe Nugget and his youthful antics. This group will have a large area to enjoy and explore. I know MaryCarl will enjoy this experience. I am anxious to enjoy it virtually!

You may want to get in touch with Lester and Jamie with I’m a Survivor. They went through a very similar case a few years back with their male ostrich. He wouldn’t eat or drink while sitting on the eggs. He lost so much weight they were very concerned about him possibly passing. All turned out great with new babies. Emu’s seemingly hum to their eggs and the viable eggs react. So amazing to see an unborn chick react to sound 😊

Lester's Carl sat I think 70 days and they were fixing to pull the eggs because he had lost so much body mass and they were scared, but bingo next day a baby hatched, then the next one and then the 3rd one. Nature knows what is best, we humans just need to stay out of the way. Bless everyone has a Happy Easter ❤

When you see Nugget standing up & moving "things" around, he may be TURNING the eggs, which needs to be done periodically. He MIGHT be trying to cover them with leaves, etc., but, my guess is he's turning them. Just a little FYI. Wonderful to see that he's taking on the Daddy "role", and hope for a successful hatching, in May. Happy Easter to all of your family...........

I used to walk by a place that had a lot of emu their property. They would lay their eggs near the fence. People walking by would feed them. The most eggs I saw were four.

Glad you caught a couple rats where the Victoria Crown pidgeons are. Glad you're leaving the trap set as there probably are more. And if there's a snake, hope it finally goes after the eggs in the "snake trap". I'm still in awe over Nugget sitting on the eggs. Just goes to show you how strong animal instincts are! He knew exactly what his job was once Goldie finished laying eggs. You all have a very blessed Easter!✝️

Just a thought, many people feed eggs to their chickens to help make the shells stronger. As a suggestion, take a chicken egg and toss it(break it)to either your chickens or the pigeons and watch what happens - when I have seen it on video, the eggs are totally eaten, shell and all.

Brooke, rat snakes (AKA chicken snakes) typically go one or two weeks between feedings. Also, Nugget has to roll the eggs two or three times a day. That's probably what he was doing when you filmed him.
