@TerrinX 11 місяців тому
I think it has it's uses for sure, but honestly it seems pretty impractical to actually use for serious time crunched work. Not the hologram itself mind you, that's fine enough but it's the hand controls that make it a gadgetbahn in practice. Of course that's not their fault, they have sponsors and investors and workers to pay, so of course they can't go too in depth on the cons. Cons don't feed people, pros do. Unless your a con-man (badm tsss) /j In the end I don't actually care how useful it actually is. I am a huge fan of making things especially impractical things, just because it's cool, interesting, and or fun. I'm happy just to see the concept come to life in some way.
@ManuaLiberty
@ManuaLiberty 11 місяців тому
@@TerrinX I 100% agree. At best it’s a proof of concept and at worst, it’s a cool party trick. I think it’s in the beginning stage of how the track ball mouse was. Or for that matter paper drafting drawings on boards compared to modern CAD. I’m more excited to see the future of holographic tech integrated with AI or maybe even a form of telekinetic control. Still years away from either I’m sure but that could drastically lower time/improve designs

@@TAMAMO-VIRUS Maybe, military stuff has a tendency to go way over budget not because it has to but because the companies producing the stuff can get away with it, to an extent. When it gets to be too expensive and/or takes too long projects often get axed even if they actually had a lot of potential and the real problem was just companies milking Uncle Sam (or any other countries equivalent). We see this with other government run organizations as well such as NASA. The cost of a rocket from traditional manufactures is way higher than one from a private company and tend to have a lot more issues (at least compared to the more established private companies). To be clear and fair to NASA they have to deal with what they're given (an inconsistent budget that's way lower than it used to be) and deal with the whims of politicians. They try their best and have done quite well but the best they can do right now is award contracts to less traditional private companies who are willing and able to take risk to make rockets better using their own money.

Hmmm. They are perhaps going to develop holograms but they would perhaps be not used as often since there could also be smart contact lenses. With smart contact lenses and augmented and extended reality synchronized for multiple users the holographic technology would have some serious competion. I guess the contact lenses would require less energy for it to create visible outcome but could be costly for producing and for software running on it and computing all the augmented and extended reality. Tho perhaps hologram would require comparable producing cost and comparable computing power.

@@garetht677 my main thing was wanting my PC on the desk cause it’s built as a display piece, but sometimes I’d like the work area too. My desks now are two conference room desk style tables (on casters) that I have in an L shape. Considering how hard and expensive building an entire desk from scratch would be (and I don’t want to ruin what I have) I was thinking of instead just effectively making a cabinet that would sit in the corner of the L with the two desks against it and level with it, and that would raise / lower the PC. Not sure if that would really work out better than just doing a whole desk, but I definitely need the space of an L desk if not more. Just get into it. They have to do research on all the parts, planning, testing and failing just like you do. In the videos stuff like this might look like a fun little weekend project for a smart engineer but in reality it takes weeks and month to get everything planned and set up. Once you break down everything into single pieces and functions and work on it one by one it becomes manageable. You dont need any special knowledge ot skills to build this desk, just time and patience.

@crazybird199
@crazybird199 11 місяців тому
@@skydivenext I'm sorry, it's really hard for me to understand what you are trying to say. I'll try though. Designers will definitely design things, you are correct there. Engineers certainly do SOME math, but most only use it as a small part of their job. In this scenario, the people making the lift mechanisms for the screen and printer are doing mechanical engineering. The people wiring up everything in the table are doing electrical engineering. The layout of the mechanisms in the table could be a design team, but it is most likely the engineers fitting their different parts together. Finally, the metal surrounding the table is most likely a design team, but that is a fairly simple and non-critical part. You are right, an artist created Ironman, however, that was just in a comic book. You are also correct that artists and designers are very similar, and in some cases the same. However, this project was not made the same way the iron man was made. Ironman, as I established, was originally a comic book character, 2D, with no moving parts. This table is none of those things. It's a complex, 3D object filled with complex and simple mechanisms to get it to function as intended. So, in no way was the team building this exclusively designers. I hope this helps clear things up for you.
