Good thing you were able to retify the electrical issue. I've been following along since you started the build and it would have been heartbreaking to see anything happen to your bus. God bless and may he protect yall on this journey.

I even use our surge protector on my 30 amp connection when I'm connected at our house lol. I'm super paranoid about burning up the appliances. Barb said tell yall 👋...

You need to open up the kids compartments, so you can drag them out easily in case of a fire. Imagine them hiding in their compartment from smoke before a fire.

We had an electrical issue at the lot we were staying on a few years ago, and got lucky it didn’t fry our entire new fifth wheel. Husband went immediately and got us a surge protector…at the closest camping world. I love love love your bus!!! (And your beautiful family!) ❤ safe travels!!

when the contact of a plug gets hot, it means there is a resistance . only that can create heat, it can mean the plug was not fit tight enough (it means the contacts , the brass the metal parts. in the plug, not the housing. the contacts need to be a tight as possible. the more tight the less resistance the less heat) maybe it had dirt on it, the wire was not fit tight enough anymore to the contact in the plug, maybe it came lose some way. it could have been on your end or on theirs. when you take plugs out, you usual wiggle it. because of the wiggle you create a space on the contact that clamps over the other contact, you bend it open. if it is a bad designed plug, it can mean there gets to much space between the 2 actual contacts and not clamp enough anymore, and that is creating the heat with high currents. I do not know how much power you are consuming during use but having 30 amps at 100 volt means its 3300 watts. count all the power on the devices you use at the same time and see it if exceeds the 3300 watts, in that case you need to upgrade your cable and the plug

This is the best info we’ve gotten so far. Thank you for posting this. I know for a fact we don’t exceed 3200 watts. I monitor it. Our heaters don’t pull that much and our single AC unit doesn’t pull that much. Everything else in the bus is extremely minimal with its power usage. I’ll make sure the connection is very very tight.

I’m worried that you’re drawing to many amps for the circuit. You’ve got a lot of electrical load in the bus . 30 amps might not be enough. Just a thought.

Looks like from an electric heater. OR battery charger and converter is shoddy. Get a circuit troubleshoot device. it plugs in and tells you if the ground or hot or neutral has been miswired.

My heart breaks for you and the stage of life you’re going through….I remember when my husband and I went through things similar to the ones you mentioned. Honestly, and unfortunately, I believe it’s part of life. With 3 kids so young, their demands are usually small - but often constant. In a blink of an eye, they’ll be in their mid teens and start making a life of their own - actually they’ll be older than I mentioned😮. Living in a bus is surely costly at times, but it looks so beautiful! If you owned a hound, it’d be bigger and the faucet in the bathroom and kitchen are leaking, the kitchen and dining room need painting, the concrete driveway needs fixing - and the list goes on. I know it’s hard for you and the family and I’m so sorry. The sparkle in your eyes is gone….. Keep your faith strong. It appears all 5 of you are healthy and today, that’s something to really be thankful for. Make videos when you can. Sort ones are fine. We just want to know you’re ok Prayers

Just had a similar problem on our bus #thebusnusjourney. In our case we believe the issue was caused by the stranded copper cable on the bus side having soldered ends. The solder can create air gaps and cause poor connections which can then result in excessive heat and burnt connectors. On my new inlet box the manufacturer actually states in bold not to solder the ends. Anyway glad to hear you have it all fixed..😎

Not to sound like a keyboard expert, but sometimes those poles overheat due to a loose connection. You probably want to keep an eye on the RV cord to ensure the female side of the connection doesn't loosen up over time.

@lifeanywhere Рік тому
Yes! Someone else commented the same thing. I didn’t know that was something that could happen. Hopefully that’s all it was. I guess I’ll make sure the connection is tight next time.

Maybe you actually need to upgrade to a 50 amp?of your running any cooking appliances.
@lifeanywhere
@lifeanywhere Рік тому
I’ve thought about that, and we’d need to for sure if we added another AC unit. But we never exceed 3000 watts. Cooking is all done on gas.

Hello. In europe there is a 3.5 tons limit if you want to drive any car that is not or more than a normal car. Campervans are either made for a weight below 3.5t or you have to made a different driver license for trucks. Is that different in the States? Also tolls are much more expensive when you drive a vehicle like yours. Is that the same in your country? There are camping vehicles that are 10m long and 7.5t of weight, but the have Problems in europe finding spots and even camping areas. And skoolies like yours are not allowed to be parken in innercities. We decided to buy a "standard" camper van based on a Fiat Ducato (I guess you don't have or know them in the US but its the most selled campingcar in europe). It makes (van)life a lot easier. Especially young folks convert old vans into campervans; even "microcamper" becom more and more famous. That leads to an increasing condemnation of the camping comunity in general. I wondee if you have the same issues in the US. It is one of my dreams to visit the great american nationalparks with our own van, but shipping is quiet expensive and the restrictions for US would make the journey anything but relaxing. Traveling to africa is easier and would take less time. So we will travel through europe the next years and than maybe vross the continent at the spanish/maroccan border. I like your Videos even though i dint understand everything. You put a lot if work and love into your skoolie.
