This confirms that I can see at least what city it's in after I arrive. The speaker in airtags can be easily removed so could be used to track anyone and an iPhone notification to the guy being tracked is the only thing stopping this. Most would probably think it’s nothing or ignore it. It could be under their car or hidden for ages.

imagine placing air tags on bears so hikers can be alerted of their presence. dunno but watching this while high and thats what thought of. lol

AirTag can also be a great way to always know where your car is. Your car could get stolen but you’d be able to track it or even if you just lost it in the parking lot.

I live in Florida. I bought an airtag and was having issues. So, I exchanged it for another. A few days later Apple called. They were trying to diagnose the issues. I had not removed it from my account. The call was a request for specifics on my issue (my phone would not track it beyond 5 feet). When they called I saw my returned tag was now showing up in an Apple location in California!

Today is the day I received a notification that a Air Tag was detected near me. Had to find this video I thought I was being stocked honestly. I was like why is this tracking with me 😂

Just FYI blurring put your map like that doesn’t do much. It’s still super easy to figure out where that is. Not in a creepy way just you might want to hide it better in the future.

One way to improve this test: Have someone at the destination log in with your Apple ID and “locate” the airtag. Instead of just open the box.. maybe ship it to a UPS store or something like that so you need to seek it out.

A lot of ppl are say Airtags and Chipolo are the ones to use. I’ve used tile in my kids back pack and keys..found the keys a day later but the kids book bag was never found via tile. It was finally returned to the school 2 days after by a parent who found it in the playground

Fun video! I did a similar experiment by putting an airtag into a log and seeing how far it would float down the river by my house. My results were far less interesting than yours. What I’ve discovered is that an iPhone or iPad must be near the airtag for some period of time before it pings. This makes sense - you wouldn’t want the network overwhelmed by having dozens of devices pinging when they are just driving or walking by. So in the case of my river trip - it’s not “phoning home” very much - just a couple of pings over 3 days.

Question: How secure is an Apple Airtag? Can an airtag be hacked/stolen? e.g. Can it be deregistered or re registered to a different Apple ID account without the owners permission/knowledge?

Hmmm seems like building a tracking device into a reusable shipping container isn’t a bad idea. First industry that comes to mind is pharmacies where sometimes deliveries of very expensive medications get sent to the wrong place or stolen.

Did the Smart Tag not "beep" during its travels while away from its iPhone? That could have alerted the delivery service? Made them suspicious of the box's contents?

Put the tag on your dog’s collar, it works great as a tracker if your dog gets lost

These could be used for quality control or better business process for companies like UPS, Fedex, DHL, etc

Interesting. We ship a USPS Flat Rate box from CA to FL at least once a month. Once or twice a year, a package will be held up. USPS then tells us they are 'investigating' the delay. Maybe this solution can help us, help USPS to find a package lost in their system.

I wanted to try something similar, and bagged up an airtag to send to the UK, but had to complete a customs declaration and one of the questions was does the package contain an electronic device with a lithium battery, which it does, so I decided not to send it. Did I do the right thing?

1) so a thief could disable the airtag once they've arrived at their house? 2) I wonder how close someone with an apple device would have to get for it to be able to ping a new location?

I’ve just purchased a new car, and will be putting it on to a car truck, for transport from NSW to Tasmania in Australia. I’ve given them a time frame for their trip, but will be wondering if they make any side tripes, or even take my new car for a spin. Should be very funny if they do take it for a spin, only to find out they are being tracked.
