Romes been my dude since week 1 of the season. My literal ideal dream was getting him with Caleb on the Bears. But I didnt think it was gonna be possible. When pick 8 came in, and the Falcons picked... Penix.. I literally screamed with excitement. Then Pick 9 read Rome Odunze and like, im so hype. Romes been my #1 WR of this class. Super slept on because of that 4.45.

@@MattHarmonRP also noticed on the All-22 he’d get to his point on the route too quickly at times. 21% of Penix’s pass attempts in 2023 were 20+ yards or more. It’s a different dynamic for the WR when the QB is taking a lot of 7-step drops.

@iurunner34
@iurunner34 Місяць тому
I know DJ Jeremiah has brought up the Larry Fitzgerald comp and at first I kind of scoffed at that but really, Larrys NFL production was never as special as it was considering how long he did it. 100-1100-10 every. single. year. Every down year is offset by a target funnel, Kurt Warner 1400 yard season. I could see that outcome with Rome. Guaranteed top 10 WR every year but doesnt have one single beyond-dominant trait that makes him the NFL WR1 in a given year.

I think Odunze is a 60-80 reception a year guy. Think Brandon Aiyuk. He is an athletic freak. He is competitive. I believe Robert Saleh loves his competitive nature. But if you put a ghost trial of Nabers on the same route, Nabers just looks way better and like he can beat any coverage. Bryan Thomas also looks better in running routes... Until you get frustrated watching Thomas drop passes.

What is he not good at??!! What a ridiculous question!!! Did you not notice that he almost never gets separation downfield??!! Did you not notice that nearly every DB is right in his hip pocket on his deep routes??!! Odunze has great ball skills, best in this draft, but he rarely gets separation downfield and Penix just drops the ball in the bucket anyway. His 40-time speed does not translate to game speed, and he can't separate (downfield) from college level teenagers, so how is that going to translate against bigger, stronger, faster, smarter, more experienced grown men in the NFL? - probably not good!!! Only 3 guys I have ever seen (in history) can get almost no separation and CONSISTENTLY catch the ball anyway = D Hop, Larry Fitz, and Anquon Boldon. Everybody else in NFL history pretty much needs to create separation, or be limited to being a possession receiver, which is not worthy of a first round pick. A 1st round receiver has everything = deep threat speed, interior route quickness, good routes, good hands, and great athleticism. Odunze is missing deep threat speed, and it's impossible to tell if he'll be able to bully grown men in the NFL like he bullies college DBs, because not many guys can. Odunze will probably be productive, but to rank him over more complete all-around receivers like Nabors, Harrison, Mitchell, and Thomas is just crazy. Possession receivers lacking downfield speed don't get first round grades in my book.
@MattHarmonRP

@broq9194 Місяць тому
@@MattHarmonRP No you don't know what to tell me.
@broq9194
@broq9194 Місяць тому
@@MattHarmonRP You completely missed the point. Fitz, Hop, and Bolden don't NEED to get separation, where they do or don't THEY STILL CATCH THE BALL, almost every time. They have an extremely rare skill that almost nobody else has, and to project Odunze to have this same skill is impossible. Fact = Odunze does not get downfield separation against college level DBs (teenagers). A receiver's first goal, the thing you want to do most is GET SEPARATION. Not only does it make the catch 10x easier, it also makes the QB's job much easier by giving him a wide open target, and it keeps you from getting beat up, because DBs will T-off on you and hit you as hard as they can in the head, neck, ribs because you're helpless when you're catching the ball, and DBs will be furious and frustrated that you caught the ball with them in such tight coverage, IT'S HUMILIATING [I would know because I played receiver all my life, including in the NFL], To ASSUME Odunze didn't get separation because "he didn't want to" is amazingly ridiculous. Someone who doesn't play receiver might say that because they have no idea what it's like, and they've never been hit in the neck with a forearm rip by Kam Chancellor because you UNFORTUNATELY caught the ball six inches in front of him. Guess you never been hit so hard by a DB that your entire body shakes and convulses uncontrollably for 10 seconds as you fall to the ground, AND THAT'S WHY YOU GET SEPARATION, to make your job easier, to make your QB's job easier, and to keep DBs like Mel Blount from knocking years off your life. Life lesson every receiver knows = DBs are "BAD," stay way!!! lol Will Odunze be able to make all these contested catches and bully bigger, stronger, faster, smarter, more experienced grown men in the NFL like he did against college guys?? = IMPOSSIBLE to predict, maybe he can maybe he can't, BUT NOT MANY GUYS CAN, IN NFL HISTORY. So I really can't understand why he's being ranked over all-around complete receivers with all the skills AND break away downfield speed like Nabors, Mitchell, Thomas, Legette, etc. Great catching ability but little or no downfield separation - How does that translate to the NFL???? And why would you draft a limited possession type receiver high in the first round???
