I don't understand why most every welder has something to say about how you get out of a pickle. This guy is not welding the empire state building. That was probably connected,but anyway,but it all depends on the application. This is obviously not a high pressure gas line. Sometimes you gotta do what you need to do to get the job done.
@warrenmcelroy47187 місяців тому
Because wether it’s the Empire State Building or not anything worth doing is still worth doing right. When it’s right there in front of you and so simple to do properly there is no sense in halfassing it.

@brag00017 місяців тому
The problem with this is that he is showing it on the internet to people who might not know better, and then proceed to do such sloppy work on cars, trains and buildings hurting people in the process. And the real problem is that without a proper investigation those welders might never even hear about them being at fault and killing people. There is no issue with doing that in your backyard while repairing an old fence or something. But nobody needs to see a video teaching this. Learning to weld properly is hard enough without so much bad advice being shown on the internet ...
@Peron1-MC7 місяців тому
@@warrenmcelroy4718so what would you have done if you had a gap like that?
@warrenmcelroy47187 місяців тому
@@Peron1-MC I would have cut out more metal and actually cut the angles at 45’s so they fit properly. But if that wasn’t an option i would’ve found a small piece of scrap metal that was wide enough to fit flush on the under side of the gap so it would cover the entire gap. Then I would turn the amps down just a little and laid down one good solid bead with a circle pattern, then I’d have flipped it over and ran a couple of flat beads on each side of the filler metal just for a little extra strength. Some folks don’t mind welding over their slag like that but as a rule I never do it, and when stick welding I never liked welding directly over top of another bead either. If I’m going to have to do anything like that I’ll use the mig/gas welder.
@aparicio1610956 місяців тому
If you weld 2 pieces at 90° the melted steel will decrease its volume closing the angle to almost 87°. You need to weld the pieces at least 3° wider so you can make up for the 90° .
