The Western capercaillie, also known as wood grouse, is the largest member of the grouse family and is native to the forests of Europe and Asia.
The most fascinating aspects of the Western capercaillie is its unique mating behavior. During the breeding season, male capercaillies perform elaborate courtship displays to attract females. These displays often involve the male puffing up his chest and tail feathers while making a series of low drumming sounds. The male will also fan out his tail feathers to create a mesmerizing display of color and movement.
