@@travelwell6049 Visit the local library, they should have books on it, then start a study circle where you and the other members help each other figure out how to do it. Chances are good that someone already knows someone with the skills, equipment and seeds to help others get started.

I totally agree with you. But, unfortunately the media and Tories have convinced everyone that the poorer people are the enemy so no one will ever rise up for them. It's so cruel how they've turned so many against the most vulnerable members of our society. Yes, there are some people who claim benefits, etc. when the shouldn't but you've got those sorts of people in all walks of life (just look at the rich avoiding taxes) but that shouldn't mean that all who claim benefits should be viewed as scum and as the enemy.

This is what I scream up and down about with the Canadian system! Why I dont get the American model AT ALL. Like. I am glad our system covers way more, but like. I have family members that had to dip in their savings to pay for dentistry. Like. If he has another dentist issue, that could cost rent. Which is going up. Like. What if all medical services were charged like that? We'd be screwed, lol. The American system with it's medical debt seems like a nightmare, lol. We should have more covered by taxes, not less! And forced my ass, lol

I was completely shocked when I found out about it. I come from considered the poorest country in Europe but still in my country even with an average salary we can afford visits and treatments to a private dentist. This year, I had to book a trip back home and one of the reason, was dentistry treatment. My seven years old son was on a waiting list here for an x-ray and treatment since last December. Still didn't hear from them. But again, we don't need it anymore because I've got him treated in my country. My husband last year twice visit here an emergency dentist bcz of inflammation and all that they could do is prescribe him antibiotics. Not even treating it!!! Bcz the price would be 2000 pounds just for 1 tooth!!!! So we decided to borrow some money from a friend + some savings and send him to my parents back home to do the treatment. The doctor saved that tooth + cleaning + treated a couple more + replacement of 2 bridges (10 teeth) + plane ticket (200 pounds) and daily expenses (spend 15 days there) and all that with just 1000 pounds!

I know. 2.5 years in UK now, and I now finally have my first missing tooth (first time in my adult life). First step to being British. I think they should ditch the life in UK test and instead check the number of missing teeth.

Dentist wanted to do 5 root canals on me but they can't cause NHS don't cover it, I'm on Universal credit can't afford to pay for them doing. So I went for the free option which is have 1 filled and 4 totally removed. I do look after my teeth by the way but acid burning my throat etc is affecting my teeth

Yeah I used to be on the NHS thing a couldn't get an appointment at all but if I want the appointment on private not a problem come straight down now i just pay for any treatment I need plus its actually better treatment I have found you get more it would seem if private

I feel for you. Did my PhD in Norway and lived a very "stress free" (except the usual stress of the degree of course) on a junior researcher salary with quite a few nice little bonus (like a travel budget to fly home with twice a year).

They're just preparing you for how they plan to violate you as a full-time employee - ie fully. I would honestly recommend that anyone with a skill abandon this country as soon as they can. It should not be necessary, but that fact is best mulled over elsewhere: the Tories are now fascists-in-waiting, and Labour are neo-liberals who want nothing to do with anyone below board level.

@@lavrentivs9891 easier said than done tbh, I still have those 50 hours a week to work. Don't really have the time to start a campaign. There's a PGRs against low pay movement I participate in but it's hard getting anyone to listen when barely any of the country knows or cares about this problem.

That's the progressive view on governments and the state. The conservative view is that it should go back to a time when the people were the subjects of the government and there to provide the resources for the country so it can outcompete other countries.

How quickly people forget. We let Labour take the reins for thirteen years and they introduced tuition fees, rebranded the Poll Tax as Council Tax and jacked up the cost, took us into illegal wars, sold the NHS to private companies, most of them foreign, allowed the majority of British companies to be taken over by foreign companies that pay no tax in the UK, sold the gold reserves at rock bottom prices, sold peerages, left us completely incapable of weathering the american financial crisis and still let the bankers walk away with hundreds of millions of pounds in bonuses for their failures and when it was over and the country was more or less bankrupt, they left a note in the treasury that said 'sorry, there's no money left'. And that's before we get to the social issues where the state took over people's lives, left them dependant on the state, even though the state wound up being something that works against your interests because they used a one size fits all approach, just with endless bureaucracy. And that isn't a one-off. Every Labour government has left office with the country bankrupt and socially worse off. Labour sounds good and even looks good, but the reality is that all they care about is power and I don't want to go through that again. I've only just started to recover.
