People who are not going to comment are invariably afraid of being identified with a party... watching this makes me feel that Rajeev has made an impact for sure because traditional BJP votes are the temple going population and people centered around them like their families and that is substantial and the young hip crowd was with Sasi Tharoor because as they are chronic lefties who want to oppose BJP at any cost, minority votes ( not much in city limits) and first time voters who saw that Sasi was seen as a erudite forward looking MP with good English positioning him as a global intellect... Now Rajeev walks straight into this with a better image of successful technocrat with world view and most important a doer... . So if in Manaveeyam road this place there is a talk about Rajeev being a good candidate .... he really has a chance. There are 2 minority dominated areas ( Christian) and they will swing in favor of Sasi and even after that Sasi used get a tough fight from the city constituencies which is centered around the Hindu population that is a temple going crowd who are not very open on media. If BJP is actually having any chance in the left leaning areas in city or left leaning demographics in the city ..it is a clear red light for Sasi. Panniyan Raveendran will sure cut votes from Sasi. So now the question is will that be enough to cover the consolidated Christian votes in the coastal areas of TVM which comes to Sasi's kitty every time? That will determine whether Rajiv will win .... Rajiv will increase votes for sure but either a split in the opposition votes in City or the coastal belt will ensure the win. Sasi is having it tough this time... and for sure he will not contest again if Rajeev will stick on to fight next time ( win or loose) that is sure!!! This election the elephant in the room is Modi factor and people are seeing the impact each time he comes... and most important is that people actually believe that Modi will any way win and Congress which has 50 -60 seats any which way won't be able to put up a fight. Rajeev is a sitting minister who is very very focused on talking only about development to the public sending out a feeling that he will actually do some thing ( coupled with Modi factor) and not only talk which Sasi did for many years. Actually there is a fair chance Rajeev will win and the reason is something else than what is seen outside..... The left needs to catch as many votes to keep their symbol and the votes that used to swing under left instructions to Sasi will now have to stay with Left itself and that pulls Sasi's City votes considerably and if Rajeev gets a very small portion of the coastal Christian votes or if the coastal votes split between left ( if left canvases well in coastal areas to increase votes ) and congress Rajeev will sure beat Sasi handsomely. So the final result will actually depend on the Left and its predicaments ...
