What I love so much about Kurzgesagt is that they make anything understandable to the listener. If they say "it will explode the force of 50 megetons of TNT," they make sure to explain just exactly what the result will look like, with an added bonus of a visual animation

I had a similar thought experiment - what would happen if Tsar bomba was detonated within an indestructible layer of force field that's just big enough to house the bomb? Since the blast and shockwave can't expand outwards, where would it go if the force field holds and contains it in place? This video is a nice and similar representation of that, alberit the force field is the sea's pressure

The earthquake event which caused the 2011 tsunami in Japan was more than 6300 times as energetic as the world's nuclear arsenal exploding all at once. So if you put every nuclear bomb from every country which has them, put them all together to make one really big bomb, and then made six thousand more of those, and then detonated them all at the same time, it's _still_ less powerful than the earthquake was..

Zsolt Vázsonyi Nah, its all unrealistic, closer to fantasy than anything else. I watched their video of detonating a nuke in the marianas trench and it said the earth’s tectonic plates will move and the earth’s orbit will change and that there will be a few kilometer high tsunamis. Its highly unrealistic but i guess its just for entertainment purposes (that video is actually quite old but i guess they’re still doing the fantasy not science stuff)

I would expect the initial sphere to be inverted like a torus with a very high pressure differential at the dead center of the bubble due to the pressure differential that occurs vertically from the water column. The sphere would then rebloom from the spike and the process would repeat until it reached the surface and destroyed the ship overhead.

Tsar Bomba wasn’t a fission reaction, like that of an atomic bomb, but a fusion reaction (fusing hydrogen atoms together), making it an h bomb
