ESP Wi-Fi MESH is a network protocol built on the top of Wi-Fi. Using ESP MESH we can connect several devices (referred as nodes) under a single WLAN (Wireless Local-Area Network) over a large physical space.
In ESP Wi-FiIFI MESH the network is built dynamically and automatically hence it is self-forming and self-healing. Check out this video to know more.

cool and stuff. but how do i connect the root node to a nother wifi network and the mesh network to send data from my mesh to th internet?

Hello, I have a question. I've seen this and the video about ZigBee protocol, but I don't understand why a tree network topology like this is called mesh. I'm writing my thesis on this. Hope I'll get answer, thank you!

Hi Peppe, You are right. Let me explain. This network topology is a characteristic of ESP Wi-Fi MESH specifically which is well documented in the official documentation of the ESP Wi-Fi MESH Protocol. ESP-MESH is built on top of the infrastructure of Wi-Fi protocol and can be thought of as a networking protocol that combines many individual Wi-Fi networks into a single WLAN. In Wi-Fi, stations are limited to a single connection with an Access Point at any time, whilst an AP can be simultaneously connected to multiple stations (downstream connections). However, ESP-MESH allows nodes to simultaneously act as a station and an AP. Therefore, a node in ESP-MESH can have multiple downstream connections using its softAP interface whilst simultaneously having a single upstream connection using its station interface. This naturally results in a tree network topology with a parent-child hierarchy consisting of multiple layers. Please kindly take a look at these subsections of the official documentation to learn further: docs.espressif.com/projects/esp-idf/en/latest/esp32/api-guides/mesh.html#tree-topologydocs.espressif.com/projects/esp-idf/en/latest/esp32/api-guides/mesh.html#node-types docs.espressif.com/projects/esp-idf/en/latest/esp32/api-guides/mesh.html#beacon-frames-rssi-thresholding We hope this was helpful. Thank You.

@@MAKERDEMY Hello, Last week I made lot of research about this. ESP-MESH is just a tree topology which cannot be (and never be, because it's built atop WiFi that allows only a single upstream connection) a mesh topology. ESP-MESH is just mesh-like because it implies the self organization and self healing. By the way, a real mesh network has multiple "upstream" connections between nodes, for example 2 or more nodes can be connected both with router and inside the same mesh, and if a node fails the mesh just changes the path and the other nodes doesn't need to search for new connections. I hope this clarify any doubts, Lot of students are commissioned to build a mesh Network but they can fall in this, like me, and doing something wrong. If someone is interested to do a real mesh network, you can try ESP BLE MESH, which unfortunately is not full-documented.

Please, I visited the Advanced ESP32 website and then went to the contents of the lecture, I could not find a lecture titled ESP-MESH. Do you have a course that talks about ESP-MESH

HI, Mutaz. We have a course named Introduction to BLE that talks about ESP BLE MESH. You can go through that course to understand ESP MESH in detail. We don't have any course specifically that talks about ESP WiFi MESH as of now.

what range and transfer speed can be achieved? Is 1Mbps realistic?
@MAKERDEMY
@MAKERDEMY Рік тому
Hi Jakob The theoretical range is 200m and the speed is 10Mbps. We have observed a real life range of around 100 meters and varying speeds based on distance between 2 to 6 Mbps. We came to this conclusion by referring to other videos. We hope this was helpful. Thank You, MAKERDEMY SUPPORT TEAM
