TDK really up their game, inviting ministers onto their podcast. It’s very nice to see a change of pace, such a chill and casual way ministers portray themselves in a serious mannerism in the House and in a podcast setting like as though you’re talking to them like friends. You don’t usually see them like this. Very refreshing. Maybe invite Pritam Singh as the next guest?

Agree with Dan that people may be too picky. But then again, shouldn't the buyer be picky as the house can cost up to half a million or more?

As well as that they will be living there (presumably) for the rest of their lives. Though I see where Dan is coming from. If you want to have a "cheaper" alternative, you have to adjust your expectations.

Why is land cost calculated into HDB prices in the first place ? The land is owned by govt not the buyer.

The parenthood provisional housing scheme (pphs) mentioned is only provided to couples with monthly household income less than 7k, this actually excludes quite a fair bit of middle income couples.. still don't think it solves the renting problem

I would ask that the ministry to look into property developers that purchase freehold land from buyers and sell it as 99 year lease. I believe this will disadvantage both the new buyer and the state. Far East was the first to do so. I would also recommend anyone who purchase private 99 property, on who owns the land.

Wow wish I was at MI’s constituency. She was present till way past midnight to meet the residents. Many years ago, I waited till past 11pm & was sent home without meeting the minister.

The more new citizens we bring in , the more subsidies are given to them in a BTO, new citizens raid the reserves built up by old citizens. SInce BTOs are scarce, why allow new citizens to compete against old citizens who have served NS?

Why not have public housing only buy and sell back to HDB rather than sell privately? This way HDB can ensure its not for profitability and control how much you get back when you upgrade.

even if the HDB were to do that, all these Singaporeans complaining about high HDB resell price will complain about how they can no longer make massive profits or "upgrade" to Condos! Classic Singaporean thing, complain about it all. also practically speaking since Singapore is a free market economy, if HDB gets the monopoly of all flats (where MOST singaporeans live), it would be a massive headache for the government to manage it. Also not to forget the longer process to find the suitable buyer vs seller for each transaction.

Hmm. I am 67yrs old. I was the only one among my friends who lived with my MIL when we bought an Hdb flat. The rest of them all bought their own matrimonial hdb flat.

put a capped on resale pricing? if you buy 400k, the max you can sell is 150% 600k. or any extra profits from selling go back to the government. I believe this can control the misuse of hdb. only allowing investor to buy condo instead of ec and hdb.

You are mixing up HDB buyers and investors. There is no misuse of HDB for genuine HDB buyers. If you own a 3 room HDB flat and you want to upgrade to 4 room HDB flat due to growing family needs, don't you want to sell at market price so that you can use the 'profit' to pay for your next HDB purchase and renovation cost? You said allow investors to only buy condo, care to elaborate how do you determine who are investors and not genuine HDB buyers?

​@@pathfinder1672 What's wrong with capping the amount on appreciation for resale pricing then? What's wrong if everyone makes the same amount of 'profit' to pay for their upgrade to a 4 room flat? Isn't public housing's aim to be affordable? Why should we be trying to make more 'profit'? Isn't that an investor mindset? Furthermore if you sell at market price, you're also upgrading to a 4 room flat at market price. So you're selling higher to buy higher. Who benefits from this? It only serves to hurt those who don't own a flat yet. Lastly like you said, how do we determine who are investors and not genuine HDB buyers? It's a difficult thing to do in the first place. And with the news report of BTO flats not being stayed in for years and then being sold in the open market after 5 years. Is this not evidence of the misuse of the current HDB system? In fact everyone plays the same game, all HDB buyers whether they like it or not have to think like investors because of the current system.

HDB Houses are more like an Investment rather than called HOME in this Century. With that Peak Prices for a Pigeonhole,not everybody can afford it. That is come of the reasons why Youngsters aren't tying knot and couples who can afford either they are childless by choice or having 1 or 2 child.

Great that these platforms are around to ask these questions. But would really would have really wanted to be asked as well was for singles. The HDB resale prices are really high if we want to stay near our parents.

Curious as why install solar panels on top of hdb flats, yet the electric bills did not go down. Shouldn’t solar panels help reduce electric usage from the grid?

Of course it is affordable. Problem with Singaporean is they always want big, good location near public transport, near amenities and high value location so they could resell if they wanted to. Another problem is their combine salary doesn't allow them to. Plus some might even already have a few child. Then obviously that's a poor planning on the buyer's side.
