A large percentage of the NEC as well as other building codes were written in blood, even though they can seem annoying and difficult to follow and seem to make building your dream home a bureaucratic process. My attitude towards building codes changed 2 years ago on New Year's Eve, when my life was spared from having GFCI protection in the kitchen. I was washing dishes, when my roommate at the time opened the cupboard and a bag of sugar fell out and knocked the blender into the sink while it was plugged in and my hands were in the water. The most I felt was a brief jolt as the GFCI tripped.

Wow! That is a great example of the value of GFCI protection. I am glad you told us what you felt because as I was reading it, I had already decided to ask you if you felt anything.

GFCI would detect the fault when the toaster was plugged into the outlet?

I disagree with you. The toaster plug only has two prongs. There is no ground fault until there is a path for current to flow to ground - which would be when the person touches it.

@@morganinspectionservices3840Additional question. My hair dryer current protector plug TEST BUTTON works fine on a 2 conductor circuit/no ground. Plug this into a GFCI outlet, the same test button works just fine, BUT the GFCI outlet does not notice the interruption. correct, the hair dryer protector does trip but not the GFCI. Comment please.
