Watering your houseplants may seem daunting, but I go by these basic guidelines:
1. I don’t water off a schedule (because watering needs vary by environment and season)
2. I wait for soil to mostly dry out between waterings (using my finger or a dry chopstick)
3. I look for signs of thirst (leaves are soft instead of turgid)
4. I place plants in adequate lighting and supplement with grow lights when needed
When it comes to self-watering set-ups like my EasyPlants, I follow the SAME guidelines as above! I never keep the reservoir constantly full.
Pro Tip: If you do have plants that are in self-watering pots, make sure that the plant has a TON OF LIGHT ☀️💡. More light = increased rate of photosynthesis so the water can be used up. Low light + self-watering pots = recipe for root rot and disaster ☠️.
This video was also the final update on what happened to my friend’s plant that was infested with mealybugs. It is currently living outside staring at its replacement that is living happily indoors.
PS Before anyone asks, my friend gave me full permission to enter her house when she wasn’t home, so no need to call the 👮 on me. She did not, however, give me permission to move in, but I feel like it’s a fair trade for giving her a new plant don’t you think?
