I was brought up listening to an 'Austrian' man with a moustache, bellowing in a large hall on the BBC, early 1940s. ' He taught my generation all the hand gestures as well; here in Blighty! I'm not sure what happened to him.....? Therefore, the bit I learnt when talking to a German, is to shout in English.

It’s just about the way it sounds to those who don’t speak it. It‘s very distinct Doesn’t matter whether you speak “proper” French or “slag” French, to me it’ll all sound the same, because the phonetic system doesn’t change.

It's the way words flow together and the beautiful sound shapes in the way people speak.

The slang is awful and not getting any better year after year. I'm French but live abroad and I'm always horrified whenever I come back 😆

Agreed! Many people think it sounds “rough” because their idea of it comes from cliche Hollywood portrayals or hearing that over and over. Like any language, sometimes it can sound “rough”, but for the most part, I think it sounds beautiful and can even sound very melodic, depending on who is speaking it. Especially the chto что lol
