I'm Scottish-American and have studied this time period. Braveheart was one of the worst movies ever made when it comes to historical accuracy. Robert the Bruce never betrayed Wallace. Clan Wallace also wasn't a highlands clan and Wallace never wore a kilt. The Battle at Stirling Bridge was conducted over an actual bridge. Wallace wasn't even captured during the Battle of Falkirk. He was captured years after that. That movie is garbage. Even if it was accurate comparing the English subjugation of Scotland to having to wear a mask to protect people is insulting to anyone with Scottish heritage. Fuck Ted Cruz.

People seem to think of politicians as either villains or saints, which is Neanderthal thinking (sorry, couldn’t resist). I’ve never been a fan of the politicians I vote for - I choose them as preferable to their opponent, knowing that they’re only human and will implement some policies I don’t like, and might even have personal failings that are scandalous. I thought Cuomo was doing his best during the pandemic, but I saw no reason to put him up on a pedestal - most people glorifying him were doing so partly as rebuke of Trump’s disastrous handling of the crisis. I remember when Cuomo rushed to publish a book on his handling of a crisis that wasn’t even over yet, I wondered if he would put out a revised edition when some of the decisions that seemed fine at the time turn out to be questionable in retrospect. I was thinking in a few years when the pandemic response had been reviewed, I didn’t realize he’d be going from highly lauded to heavily criticized in a few months.
