We explore what you will find in a typical Czech supermarket and also the prices you can expect to pay for groceries.
Please also leave us a LIKE, COMMENT (it will help our channel) & SUBSCRIBE for more future videos on Czech Republic.
This vlog was shot in Brno and Zelny Trh markets also found in Brno. The prices & conversions are valid for August 2019.
We decided to cover the unique things only found in Czech Republic as other general groceries will have similar prices to other countries anyway. Some of the items in there are outrageously cheap and very good quality.
This website provides a general price guideline for classic household groceries

Brno je zlatá loď :-) já jim spíš závidím ten trh. v česku se to vymlátilo a pak to znovu začínalo. ale jsou to takový ty přehajpovaný a předražený trhy, kde je děsně narváno...

I'm glad you put in the other currencies as well as the Czech price. Just one note - in the US the decimal is a period, not a comma. So we would say $5.19 instead of $5,19 :)

Nash & Tereza you’re welcome! You are creating nice content and I appreciate it. Was wondering if you might think about making videos such as what it’s like to go to the doctor or dentist in Czech. I understand that you might not be able to film in the actual offices due to privacy issues, but perhaps you could explain how it works… I’ve heard many stories on ex-pat forums that doctors are rude and very abrupt with their patients. I’ve also heard that going to the dentist is less than pleasant in the Czech Republic compared to America. I don’t know if these are true stories or not… But it would be interesting to get your take on it.

If you taste apples in burčák, it is not burčák. It's just cheaper substitute. Burčák Is made only from grape juice. Bevouse it is very young vine at most active part of fermenration process. And in fact. True burčák is at his peak only few hours.

Those ready made packed meals are something that is not really popular here. Czechs usually cook at home so they do not need it. So demand is low therefore the quality and taste of those meals is very poor especially compared to the countries like UK or the Netherlands where people are used to buy these product and I could not really tell the difference between those meals and home cooked ones when I was there. Also Pilsen is not the best beer by far. It is best known outside the Czech Republic and mostly overpriced the to the brand but you find much better beer in small local breweries that still make proper beer instead of mass produced "eurobeer".
@NashTereza
@NashTereza 4 роки тому
So true, we do love the pre-made dumplings though as they are the hardest to make at home. We also are not a fans for ready made meals. We rather go pay a bit more for lunch menus if we do not want to cook (but that was a different story when we were students haha). I really like Pilsner when super cold or Lucky bastard from Brno that is superior. . . I did not find Pilsner outside Czech yet apart from import areas within supermarkets. Which beer do you recommend?
@qwe5qwe566
@qwe5qwe566 4 роки тому
Pretty much anything unfiltered&unpasteurized which is harder to get in regular supermarkets because it needs to be stored in fridge and has much shorter shelf life but I know that for example Globus has several fridges with these ones in the beer section. They are usually sold in 0,7- 1 - 1,5l bottles. I like Sedlák or Sedláček (11/12) from Kroměříž. Pubs with their breweries often sell their beer bottled - I had really good beer in Hradec Králové at the main square.

Nash & Tereza i’m not sure how searching engings work, but i’m sure you can add more than one tags, including Czechia 🙃 But my comment was aiming more general, it would be nice to use correct name when you speak and so on. It just sounds silly to say just adjective. (In my opinion sound silly to use long political name as well, but ok, lets say its acceptable, but adjective? Eh..)
@PavelFila
@PavelFila 4 роки тому
I think czech is OK. I'm czech and I say "it's from czech, i'm going to czech etc." It's basically a shortcut of Czech republic which is official and long and therefore not practical to use. Czechia is a new word invented mainly for Google reasons. As far as I can say it is not that much recognized in between people here. Some people say Česko, some even hate this Czechia word it feels strange and too eastern :) But we will see, language is changing, maybe the next generation will be ok with Czechia.
