@alistairt7544

Wow! Samantha took them for a little trip around France because those snacks are like regional specialties or with flavour from different Regions. They're usually named after the regions they're from, some are ingredients from a particular region. France is divided into Régions, like the US is divided into States or Canada with Provinces. Seems like some are from the brand "Reflets de France" which specialises on French regional delicacies/snacks. Here are some information of these snacks with the Region they are from: (Disclaimer, long post lol) The two snacks flavoured with Comté and Roquefort cheese is made by a good brand called, "Michel et Augustin". I really love their cookies with chocolate and hazelnuts on the inside. _Comté_ cheese is from the historic Region of *Franche-Comté* , now it's merged with Bourgogne (Burgundy) and called *Bourgogne-Franche-Comté* . _Roquefort_ cheese is from the very south of France, around the town of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon, in the southwestern Region of *Occitanie* . If you notice, there's an abbreviation at the bottom, "AOP" meaning *_Appellation d'origine protégée_* and is similar to "AOC" *_Appellation d'origine contrôlée_* . These are French products that are protected by the French government, and you can't name or sell a product with these names unless they are directly produced and bought from these places. Other products with protection by the AOC are: Champange, Cognac, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Bordeaux wines/spirits, Emmental, Langres(my fav) and Brie cheeses, even some honey from Corsica and lambs from Somme, Picardie. Ker Cadélac is a brand of snacks from the Region of *Bretagne* or Brittany, a peninsula in the west of France. Those look like _Palet Bretons_ , and they're pretty much like shortbread or thick butter biscuits very buttery like Madeleines. The traditional version is thicker, like small cakes. Fine du Nord Mimolette, is flavoured with _Mimolette_ cheese from I believe the city of Lille in the northern Region of *Hauts de France* . _Croquants de Cordes_ are these biscuits made with almonds from the small town of Cordes in *Occitanie* . Croquant means crispy and you see this word on pastries and snacks. _Croquant aux pommes: Recette de Normandie_ are apple biscuits but the recipe is from the northwest region of *Normandie* (Normandy). _Broyés du Poitou_ is a type of shortbread. It typically looks like a pie but this is probably a biscuit form of it. *Poitou* is a historic region in the southwest of France is now part of the Region of *Nouvelle-Aquitaine* (New Aquitaine). The butter from the town of Charente is often called _Charentes-Poitou beurre_ and is protected by the AOC. _Palets Bretons Fabriqués à Pont-Aven_ is a Breton buttery biscuit like the Ker Cadélac, but specifically made from the town of Pont-Aven in western part of *Brittany* Region. _Lu: La Paille d'Or aux Framboise_ are these raspberry waffers. You can get them on any supermarket and are pretty good. "Paille"means straws and "Or" means gold, in other words, "Golden Straws". Ollie was actually close on the pronunciation of the word hehe. They're straw-looking waffers with raspberry filling. _Pâtes de fruits Fabriqués en Provence_ are fruit pastilles made in the beautiful southern Region of *Provence* or *PACA* (Provence-Alpes-Côtes d'Azur). This is the region of the French Riviera and famous cities and towns are Cannes, Nice, Saint-Tropez, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and the Principality of Monaco. _Bon bons au miel de la Champagne_ are honey candies from the northeastern Region of *Champagne* . Yes, Champagne wine originated here and is only produced in this region. The region is now merged with Alsace-Lorraine and is now called Région *Grand Est* . Finally, _Pastilles du Bassin de Vichy à la menthe_ are these mint pastilles from the city of Vichy in the Region of *Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes* in central France. They're often called Pastilles de Vichy. To anyone familiar with WW2 history, Vichy was the administrative capital of the unoccupied zone of France, which was a Nazi puppet state, because the Nazis occupied Northern France, including Paris 😳 But it's also well-known for skin care lol Thanks for reading! Hopefully you learnt something new today 😘

Ollie: "what's odyssey in French? Odyssée?" It's misspelled in the subs but his pronunciation was right! Also Ollie's original pronunciation of "la Paille d'or" was more accurate than Gabbie's final one lol; it's "lah pah-ee-yuh dohr". Gabbie actually initially said "paille" correctly but then got it wrong. It means The Golden Straw. And I could be wrong but I think the Champagne here refers to the city in France; so those are possibly candies made with honey from Champagne. I'm not French but you can find a decent number of French brands (especially cookies/biscuits and sweets) sold in Quebec, not to mention the fact that we also decently reproduce or have our own versions of many French food here.
