As a painter who loves use of color, I'm devastated I've never noticed this; on the other hand its so seamlessly woven in all I can really feel is appreciation. Great movie, great video.

Harry potter's color change fits well with the story. It progressively gets darker and darker.

Now I realize why I loved La La Land so much, apart from the story itself - the colorful palette. Kind of reminds me of why I like Wes Anderson films as well.

The contrast of colors in old Indiana Jones compared to today is just shocking for all the worst reasons. I think in another 10-20 years we're going to look back on this era as depressingly bland and trying too hard to present "gritty realism" while sacrificing how beautiful the "real world" can actually be.

When I saw the argument scene and I noticed how green it was, I immediately thought there must be some reason why they use green. I'm too stupid to read between things, so your video really help me to understand La Land even more. Thank you for making me fall in love with this movie again!

am I the only one who sobs with the end of Lalaland? I get such a bittersweet taste with that scene, happy for them but at the same time sad that they parted ways.

This is very similar to why I really like Gwen’s dimension in Across the Spiderverse, because they openly and unashamedly use so many colors that accurately convey the emotions of the scene even just visually alone. Pink is a color of feeling love, and when Gwen rushes in to hug her dad, the watercolor style spreads pink. When she’s found and her dad is assuming she as Spider-Gwen is the one who killed Peter, a deep red and black convey harsh, dark, sticky emotions. Every color adds to the emotional value of the scene, and will even change from shot to shot. I love it so much

this is exactly why i love la la land so much. feel like we’ve been in a color DROUGHT.

The first part is also how the movie “Megamind” shows the convertment of Roxxanes trust for the villain who slowly becomes a hero. At the very beginning, Roxxane is wearing a Scarlett Red dress, the in the middle her dress becomes purple. At the end of the movie though, it becomes blue, the colour of the ‘Villain’ who becomes a hero towards the end of the movie. I think this is such a neat detail, it really shows how peoples trust can change just by a period of time😊

I made a La La Land edit and it was probably the most fun I’ve had creating my edit because I could work the color theory and red blue dichotomy into the edit itself. I hadn’t really appreciated how blue represents mia and red represents seb and when purple shows up vs the two colors clashing against one another until I started breaking down the scenes and reorganizing them to fit my own narrative edit

This is why the way Slatburn was filmed was such a breath of fresh air, the colours were so vivid, this analysis explains why the intense colours felt so nostalgic to me.

NOW i know why i love 80s-2000s movies. the colours are so much more vibrant and the cameras had this cool quality to them

I’ve watched tons of videos on Lalaland and I must say that you’re the one that handled the subject of colors the best. This movie is very special to my heart cause it was like my awakening to cinema. And what really made an impact the first time I saw this movie was the use of colors. I knew it meant something. The Harry potter movies go from colorful to unsaturated gray colors as the kinds grow up, the magic of childhood starts to fade and the circumstances become more dangerous. Color is still used to set the mood, the atmosphere, of the movies.

I have thought about the color of la la land so much along the years as I believe there is something there to untangle to make sense on a story that often seems hard to grasp because of all its nuances and complexities and I must say your analisys is the closest I have ever found to mine. This is a really well made video, a nice change of pace from the typical hyperactive youtubers. I love the fact that a movie, like most medias, can be appreciated and analyzed on different levels, and colors is one of those aspect that is so taken for granted that you don't (consciously) think about it. It looks very good but I don't feel it really "tells" a story. Colors are emotional indicators as you suggested, like music, but it's not conveying anything else beyond that and aesthetic, imo.

SPECTACULAR commentary and analysis! No wonder La La Land is one of my favourite movies - it's a story that's told in such a natural way that it's hard to miss. When you deep dive into it, everything is to meticulously planned out and has meaning. This is the pinnacle of hollywood for me. Not flashy eye catching CGI or snappy sex-craved plots thats are popular in today's movies.

This was such a great analysis. I knew colors had their own meaning in this film, but going from vibrant to muted and then back to vibrant by the end was so clever. Also using secondary colors such as purple to represent the combination for both main characters (blue and red) blows my mind. People usually associate red or pink with love but purple is perfect for them because it’s their real combination. I also noticed that she was wearing that yellow dress when the sky was purple. Yellow is opposite to purple

I took an american cinema class in my semester this year and the film we discussed under the musical genre was la la land and... throughout the movies we've discussed I always go back to this movie and especially this movies soundtrack. and seeing the stuff i've personally recognised abt the color in a youtube video is so mesmerising and proud moment for me.

This is a fantastic study, never noticed how color is used like a symbol to represent their dreams and relationship. I think subtly I noticed how all the colors made the beginning feel more dream like but as the story went on and the colors faded it began to feel more real, and that kind of struck me.

Another thing I noticed, they used colors that were contrasting. Like blue and red, and green and purple. Damien Chazelle was really thinking of everything when he was choosing colors, and you can see it.

I just now realized why La la land had such a big impact on me. When I watched this movie, I was really lost and I was unsure of my future, I related to the movie a lot. I just now realized that without the vibrant and playful colors they used I wouldn't have had the same feeling as I did. It's really fascinating how such little things that we "think" are small can play such a big part. I applaud the director who put his effort in planning it.
