Probably because the camera guy was the only one who got to really experience and react to what the cat did. He may have obscured it for the kids who are trying to catch up behind him.

The kids will not realize how truly crazy this was until years later. Kids have a tendency not to absorb unusual/unordinary experiences until way later, this is why most childhood trauma victims won’t realize until adulthood.
