This is an extremely snowy multiday adventure and it begins now!

I love to camp and hike but I'm getting old (57) and had knee surgery and need knee replacement and have only one friend he's a male, I'm a female and don't feel comfortable sharing sleeping space but will as ive only had 2 female friends in all my life and your right about how things change as my bestie died and after 45 yrs of friendship w the other we took separate paths so I need a camping partner and it seems not many my age are interested plus being old my little 2 man tent is getting painful as I age. I hope one day I get well off eniught to get an RV, heck I'd be happy With a van. If worse comes to worse I'll camp in a car before I stop camping. Signed Vicki Carnes

That was truly an epic adventure and Susie, you were impressive! It takes a strong heart and will to do what you did. We already know Luke's persistent fortitude and skills; I was impressed, Luke, that you seemed to "drag" your feet while hiking in front of Susie, making it easier for her...what a stud! In a very gentlemanly way, of course :) That was a good call to egress while the gettin' was good. The Hilleberg is one impressive shelter.

Yes, I noticed the trail break foot shuffling too. Good job. Hunting Colorado I always cut a walking stick to steady myself. I tried a trekking pole but a couple of times I forgot it and had to backtrack to find it. If I'm packing out 100 pounds of meat I cut two poles and still have to be careful in the rocks and brush. I notice you never use one.

Snowshoes: No cheap ones! In these conditions they may work. But conditions can get really harsh quickly. And then demands on material rise. Here's an example of another youtuber from the Bavarian Forest who had trouble with cheap snowshoes borrowed from a friend. Luckily he could do an improvised repair with paracord: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/r6VloZ-dmq1izYU.html&ab_channel=BackpackerWilderness

When I was 17 years old I ran away from home for a full year and lived in the cab of my 1970 C 10 Chevy pickup truck. As the days got shorter and the nights colder I bought a single mantle Coleman lantern for a heat source. The only problem was I had to wake up every couple of hours to pump up the fuel tank. When it came to cooking, I had a single burner Coleman stove that also ran on Coleman fuel. I really learned a lot about surviving on bare minimum that year.

Just returned from an adventure in Roan Highlands in the snow. Temps in teens and high winds. A couple of game changers included micro spikes, trekking poles with large snow baskets, snow shoes & chemical warmers for gloves, drying socks/boots overnight & warming sleeping bags. A UCI candle raised the inside dew point and knocked down condensation. Also the AT weather app for the latest snow updates. Proper prep and planning made for a memorable and fun 40 mile adventure from Indian Grave Gap to 19E. Winter wonderland in the highlands.

What a fun video. Brought back old memories. The land and trees and hills were gorgeous. My memories of Winter snow, beauty and trees comes from skiing with my Dad. He put me on skis at a very young age. So young I put myself on my skis between his skis and wrapped my little arms around his long tall legs. This worked 😊 till I grew tall enough to reach the rope tows. ❤❤❤LOVED LOVED IT, SKIED into my 60s till knee surgeries needed.

I grew up in northern Illinois and always took snow for granted. Then I went to college and one of my classmates was from Hawaii and had never seen snow in his life. I will never forget his reaction when he first saw snow - it was as if he had just met his long lost love after several years apart. It was a cool experience, and made me rethink my dislike of snow, having grown up shoveling it out of our driveway. It does have a certain magical quality to it.

There's a lot of things I like about winter hiking and camping more than summer. Its very quiet, you can hear the snow hit the ground and trees, there's more places to set up a tent, you don't have to worry about a camp fire or stove setting the forest on fire, there's less people, you can see all the cool animal footprints clearly. Ice does weird stuff. I just came back yesterday from a snow trip where there was these huge ice crystals everywhere, all over the ground. And if you can't stand the heat and humidity of summer, winter camping is for you!

With that dramatic music, this needs to be a longer docu-drama. "How do we survive it?" You'll never find another Suzie. I looked for a hiker partner for 30 years, and in 20 years, he taught me all he knew. 💝💘💘💝 Then he crossed the raibow bridge to hike with our past dogs. I'll meet him down the trail. Have pictures in thick snow like that! I always used to say, "Lead me gently."

And a friend wanted to go on the mountain for his first "winter bushcamp". I said it was crazy because at an altitude of 7,500 feet (which is where my bushcamp is) it's going to be at the most close to 3 feet of snow by Sunday night. When I lived in Colorado near Central City, hiking in the snow was great. I found an inexpensive pair of snow shoes really makes the hike easier. I was lucky enough to have a buddy who worked for Head Ski who donated a pair to me. Staying on top of the snow keeps your feet and legs dryer. And it takes a bit less energy to move along. Where I lived, outdoor adventures were a way of life. Great cardio-vascular workout too. This was back in the 70's so there was no youtube. And even though I took lots of photos portable video was not a thing back then. Wish I could revisit the past with a good camera today. Really enjoyed this video. Had some popcorn while watching, here on Saturday night. Thanks.

:: Gear List :: After receiving countless messages from viewers about supporting the channel through Amazon, I have begun using Amazon Affiliate links in the Adventure Videos and if you choose to purchase one of these products via these links I will receive a small commission which will help fund future honest reviews and adventures. The channel remains as it always was, 100% Agenda Free with no sponsored videos, no paid reviews, and I don't care if you purchase these products or not; you won't find affiliate links in review videos only in adventures. I'm going to do my best to put gear lists into all of my videos since everyone is asking for them all the time. For this trip, here are the big items that I used. Gear List : Hilleberg Nammatj 2 Tent : amzn.to/345m2c9 (Luke) Fjallraven Gaiters : (Susie) Outdoor Designs Gaiters : amzn.to/2Shsn1D (Luke) Decathlon Trek 100 70L Backpack : (Susie) Gregory Deva 60 L Pack : amzn.to/3oKJxkf (Luke) SCARPA Men's Kailash Trek GTX Hiking Boot : amzn.to/342zFcd (Susie) Merrell Thermo Cross II Boots : (Luke) NiteCore NU32 Headlamp : amzn.to/3fxqLbU JetBoil Minimo Stove :amzn.to/3fb0BNj Toaks 750Ml Pot with Bail Handle : amzn.to/3ywOpOw MSR Small Cup : amzn.to/3f8U4T0 Toaks Long handle Spoons : amzn.to/3vcItrL (Orange) Marmot Minimalist Rain Jacket : amzn.to/3wuGWh7 Mr Buddy Heater : amzn.to/2SbtS1c Mr Buddy Heater Propane Tank Hose : amzn.to/3ubZl0x

Do you use a Mr buddy heater on all your winter trips? I’m new to this and that changes everything I thought.

I LOVE you southerners' idea of deep snow! One inch in Washington, the city shuts down. Two feet in New York, city shuts down, four feet in Buffalo, city shuts down. Quebec City..... Never shuts down. ^_^ You definitely need show shoes and crampons for that kind of winter hiking.

I still can't believe this channel has only 300k subs. People have been missing out for a long time.

My favourite part about these videos is when they set the camera down and walk towards it and then past it knowing at one point they keep having to run towards and away from it over and over.
