The standard for movies coming to DVD and Bluray is around 105 days. I suspect movie studios settled on this amount of time because it's the optimal time for having a theater release but still having some hype left. Game consoles could use the same model, where the console version comes out, and then the PC version is 3 1/2 months later. That assumes that the port is ready by then though.

Pc sales only net PlayStation 10% beyond PlayStation sales. Also, considering the leaked internals detailing the financial implosion of XBox EVERYTHING strategic Xbox has done is called into question including Day and Date if you’re working with more than a quarter of a brain. People just want to stare at the bonfire that was the Xbox business and keep telling Sony to do the same thing because of their personal preferences when it makes no sense, there’s no more money over there. It makes more sense for Sony to to align more closely to the Nintendo business model. Diversify budgets, add more family content which it looks like they are doing with the rumored Until Dawn 2 Medevil remake, and the Mark of Kri remake plus whatever else they have going on along with a handheld for next gen. The VR games are getting really good now and the PC support for PSVR2 is going to go a long way towards developers being able port exponentially more traditional games to PSVR2/PS5. Frankly at that point they could likely kill PC porting all together since the successful streaming series will sell games to customers outside the traditional console space and inside.

If talking about Sony 1st party then prolly no. The strategic function of those games aren't to make revenue (at least not directly). It's to make money in a roundabout way by pushing console sales. Then leveraging that user base to 3rd party devs and charging them 30% for every copy sold within the ps ecosystem. eg. GTA6 sells 100 million copies at an average price of $50 across ten years. That's $5 billion X 0.3 = $1.5 bil royalties

Well I think Ratchet & Clank not doing well is because that IP’s popularity peaked YEARS ago, I’m surprised Insomniac is still making Ratchet & Clank games. And first party PlayStation games coming to PC isn’t exactly a “novelty”, Jet Moto & Twisted Metal were being brought to PC back in the mid 90’s.

Sony will have their own launcher before they go day in date. They don’t want to share their profit with steam. By waiting their banking ppl will buy it on PlayStation instead of waiting on pc release. And they’re probably right seeing that by the time it comes to pc sales are low bc ppl already bought it on PlayStation.

They will never do day and date, this isn’t rocket science, they make less money when releasing games on pc, everyone can do the math; let’s assume helldivers sold 9 million and themselves it is 45/55 in favour of pc Ps5: 4.5 million copies x 40$ = 180 million $ Pc: 5.5 million copies x 27$ (because 30%/13$ go to steam) = 148 million $ You see the point here? Even though on pc it sold a million more, they made more revenue on ps5 And helldivers was a 40$ game, with 70$ titles the money almost doubles Why would Sony choose to lose 50 million $ on the next Spider-Man or god of war just to release it on pc , it makes no sense

As long as we get a version that's on par and not a half baked mess with stuttering and technical issues and is also feature complete with modern/standard pc technologies like dlss/xess/fsr, then sure. Otherwise i would prefer waiting a year for a complete edition with bugs, features, content all done instead. For example, Nioh 1 and 2 came as complete edition on pc and were great for the most part but Wo long was a mess at launch with both technical and balancing issues and not only left a sour taste but cemented my belief that, not just day one but month one purchases are a bad deal.

Console exclusives aren't going anywhere. Just because Xbox is doing this doesn't mean everyone else will. If their 1st party games are available on PC day 1, than there is literally no reason to own their console. The PC will play it better, and you no longer have to wait. This will severely harm console business as a whole, no reason to own a ps5 over a PC, no reason to own an Xbox over a PC, but Nintendo, you have to buy their console to play their games

They shouldn’t. Look how much better PS4/5 and Switch consoles are doing compared to Xbox One/Series. There has to be a reason for people buy the boxes and in turn for first party devs to continue developing great games to sell those consoles.

They can't, because it would hurt their PS+ subscription numbers. Unlike Microsoft who has console and PC gamepass, Sony only has PS+ on consoles, so they need to have console users as their primary focus, and until their subscription model changes and they have some kind of PC subscription as well they won't give PC parity with respect to releases and release dates.

Games sell much more on consoles, developers make games for consoles, consoles are the ones that dictate the generations of video games. No matter how much you want to invent that fictional world in which consoles do not exist, you are not going to achieve it because consoles are simply more important in the gaming world and I don't think they will ever cease to exist and they are cheaper. Nobody with half a brain is going to change their $500 console on which they can play at very good quality for a $4000 PC. There are only a few people who do that worldwide.

Why the hell would Sony want to release the next God of war or the next Gran Turismo day and date on PC? They are in the PlayStation business not the PC business. PC is a generous aside, if Sony is going to do the numbers that they've been doing, hundreds of thousands of copies of God of war or days gone or ratchet and clank sold in the first few days or the first week, tens of millions of copies lifetime then they can't do this. They would literally be cannibalizing their own sales by putting the games out on PC on the same day. If I create something, an invention, something in tech and decide to sell it out of my garage but also I had the bright idea as to give half of my inventory to Google so they can sell the same exact thing with my name on it On the Google store or on the Android store or wherever they sell stuff... sure, that item is going to sell even more because Google is backing it but the small business side of it, My little Etsy Shop is not going to have as many sales as them and Etsy wants to see results to rationalize algorithm-ing my store. Sony would be a company full of clowns if they decided to put their games that's supposed to help sell PlayStations on PC at the same time. One of their aces up their sleeve is that these games are on PlayStation which would make somebody who doesn't have a PlayStation but wants to play the game gjo buy a PlayStation. If I go to Target and I see the games on PlayStation and PC, I don't have a PS5 but I have a PC, well I guess I won't have to spend the $600 today or beg my mom to spend $600 to buy the PlayStation and the game that I want because it's on the PC that I already have, Sony loses a console sale. Bringing PS5 games day one to PC would be dumb financially. Simple math for an $80 game while ignoring taxes - PC - 4 million sales = $224 million - PS5 - 4 million sales = $320 million So basically, 4 million would be the equivalent of 2.8 million (30% platform tax). Sony would be segmenting their market and liquidating the console brand. So financially, it would be a very dumb decision and basically self sabotaging a PS6 release. When people expect ps games to release day one on PC, they won't have much of a market to sell to. Plus, rockstar knows that and is the very reason they aren't doing day 1 on pc

I think they view PC sales as like a bonus to sell games after the fact. It also ensures that the ports are higher quality and aren't bound by low end PC's. Instead they focus on a high end target and then optimize it for PC after the fact

I think the main problem of sony games coming to PC is the marketing aspect, delaying a game 2 years after release is not good for the game being highlighted in people's mind, I am one of the people willing to wait for a game that comes out, but general people probably will forget it existed 2 years down the line, releasing day 1 on PC trully helped Helldivers being a massive success, rivaling counter strike as a top seller is not easy at all and specially for the amount of time it has been there. Marketting is very important and sony does a very good job for it with the PS5 games but their PC front is lacking a lot , announcing games for PC with just a tweet and a PSBlog doesn't really help, specially with a game that is 2 years late to the overall "mouth to mouth" conversation. Sony maybe needs to make the announcement of the PC version alongside their PS showcases and idk maybe saying "coming to PC 6 months later" or atleast making a PC showcase once a year announcing only PC games, but idk I am not an expert but I really think their games should come a lot sooner and the announcement should be bigger in order to attract the PC audience a lot more. Capcom already said the paltform were they produce more income is PC, and all of their games are announced on console events which is funny, so there is a lot of potential for Playstation games if they release on PC day 1 or closer

I think multiplayer live service games are more important than Sony's single player exclusives. Theres a reason why so many developers are trying to chase after that live service goal, games are extremely expensive and single player games struggle to make a return on investment in the long term.

Im willing to deal with some inconveniences like fucking around with tweaking settings or getting the right controller to work for each game, if it means having the best running versions of games on one platform.

This topic mainly comes up because Xbox fanboys are still trying to cope with the complete collapse of the Xbox brand, to the point where they’re even putting games on the PS5 now. Sony is never going to be in a hurry to give Valve a 30% cut of their day one sales on single player games. They’ve said they’ll do it with live service games and that’s it. There is no rational reason to think that is going to change anytime soon.

As a pc player most of these sony movie games i dont really find myself getting lost in. I have tried them on ps3 and ps4, theres really cool aspects of them production wise, but the gameplay doesn't usually hold my attention. When they do put them on pc 2 years later and at full price, its a turn off to be honest, if i did buy these games i would wait for a sale.

The only issue I can see is a part of the PS player base moving to the PC. PC gaming is not as complicated as it was 10 years ago, and more people jumped to the scene these last years. Considering Xbox is not a competition as it was before maybe the "console war" (sorry to use this term) might be between PC and PS5 when it comes to power and graphics potency

Why pay day-1 full price for the PC version when I already bought the PlayStation version before they announced the PC version? They're trying to charge me twice when I just want the PC version. At this point, I don't feel comfortable buying the PlayStation version at full price because they might port it to PC later and I'd rather not have to buy it twice

I think a 6 month exclusivity window would be adequate if they believe the title would sell more consoles. That should be plenty of time to do so. Anything over six months seems too extreme and by then the game is not as hot.

I've been saying this from the beginning. The viable time period for their first party games to sell well on pc is within 2 years of console release. ( take a note from rockstar). After that , the game is a bit outdated in terms of graphics or gameplay. It's not the latest shiny piece of showcase software anymore. It also gives room for more pc players who might probably have a console to rent the game or get a used copy or just play it on psplus by that time. The longer they delay the inevitable pc release the more potential customers they lose.

I wouldn’t have a problem with it. I own both consoles and I think there shouldn’t be any exclusives at all. It provides another layer of competition over which console can run games better. If COD runs smoother on PS, then that’s a PS win, if Spider-Man ran better on Xbox that would be the console you’d wanna get to play it. Xbox 360 being easier for devs to work with was a big reason they won that generation. PC having games day one I have no problem with because you have no limit how well games can run on those systems in theory

What Sony has been doing currently isn't working that well. By the time the games come out 2 or more years later the hype has long past, yet they still want to charge full price. It's exactly that enticing, they should start releasing games day 1 or at most 6 months after release. Console and pc, it's different. I don't see how it can be anything but a positive putting then on PC from the start, console players will buy consoles. To get a pc that's as powerful as a ps5 costs more than buying a console, also the mainstream don't want to deal with settings. The pc platform is huge, put the games on PC at launch and they'll sell , put them on PC years and later and they'll sell but no where near the amount they could have got with all the hype surrounding a launch. Soon Xbox games will be on PS, and PS games on PC and eventually Xbox. Microsoft and Sony are missing out on massive markets for their games - of course this will eventually happen. Especially as Xbox are becoming platform agnostic - they want every screen to be an Xbox platform. I’m sure PS and Xbox consoles will always exist as they provide a cheaper easier entry point to gaming than a PC. But console exclusives are coming to an end id bet.

I'm not interested in modern PS exclusives but I want SotC and Bloodborne to finally make the jump to PC.

Exclusivity to their corresponding consoles and releasing after a year or so is good enough. We PC gamers are not too demanding.

For MS it makes sense because their hw sales are tanking. for Sony it doesn't make sense because they are selling tons of hw, just not making enough money from their AAA releases because of how much they cost to make. The solution is less AAA games and more AA titles. They can still make them but much less frequently. That's how they used to do things. For Sony in particular focusing on PC and console equally would hurt their console sales for a PC audience that isn't really there to make up the difference in a significant manner. Xbox losing their console audience to PC already means little when the console ratio they have has not been strong for years. So id still say a lag time of 6 months to a year makes sense.
