How did you not learn from your lesson last time do you truly think that school districts are selling these buses for so cheap to give you a good deal know these school districts have amazing mechanics and have teams of mechanics and they sell these buses right at the end of their engines life when the motor has probably 20 or 30,000 miles of life left on it and every single day is a gamble whether the motors going to go or not the school district sells the bus so they don’t have to take a loss and someone like you thinks they’re getting a good ass deal and buys a bus and then the motor blows up and they think it’s some crazy rare circumstance but they don’t realize that it’s going to happen to the next bus to because every school district sells these buses at the end of their life lmao but Skooly life I just have to have a school bus cause it’s trendy like omg

Great job on finding a better bus. Have a technician put a scanner on the computer, to verify actual mileage. My bus is 51,200 miles shy of what the reading to the computer is. This is because the dash cluster was replaced at some point. Dash clusters come with zero miles when new, FYI.

@@JessandJake Here are some.other items on the cheap for you to do. 1. Have a qualified person access the the computer. Have them turn up the horsepower to maximum limits that engine was built for. This will allow much better driving and will not cost MPG. 99% all have power set low because of school bus. 2. Have speed limiter shut off. 3. Have cruise control limits turned off. 4. Have your MD-3060 transmission gear 6 unlocked. Its double overdrive and a lot less strain on transmission. 5. The MBE Mercedes engine has a issue with the cooling pipes around the cylinder head. Inspect for any rust and replace. If they blow, engine cylinder head or engine damage will occur. 6. Absolutely make.sure your coolant is correct type, and definitely fresh. On that engine, replace every three years. Coolant becomes electrolytic around three years and rots out items. 7. Figure $200 for computer unlock and $200 for new coolant inc labor. Will save you YUGE money in the long run. Enjoy Take care John.A 60107

@@NoYesJess Well thank you. I was a GM master mechanic for fifteen years with cars and commercial trucks. During my two-year search for a bus 22 years later, I learned everything about them. I spent $37,000 building my bus and will also be the mechanic as well. Not a chance I'm paying someone $100 - $200 per labor hour to do the work, no way. BTW, my profile pix are my #2 toy. Nice job with the better bus. A good find especially with those low miles and that condition. My preference however would have still been the Type C “conventional” style. (Your old bus was of the conventional type with the regular hood and the engine forward). The new bus is what’s called a Type D “Transit” style, an “RE” (Rear Engine) to be specific. There are transit style school buses out there that are “FE” or “Forward Engine” variants and a Transit style bus can either have the engine forward or in the rear. The transit style does have some advantages and some drawbacks. One advantage is more square footage available from the front to the back (the wheel humps take away some of that floor space) another advantage is the better view out the front of the bus which helps in terms of steering and seeing what’s in front of you, and other advantages available (I just can’t remember them off the top of my head at present). The transit style does have some drawbacks though, and one of them is maintenance and repair. The engine and powertrain itself isn’t easily accessible (due to it being under the floor of the bus) even with the access panels provided on the sides and rear, and doing engine repairs becomes a bit tricky. Another drawback (moreso a minor issue that can be overcome) is the different driving style. On a type C, the steering axle is forward of the drivers position, so driving it is no different than driving a regular car (just on a much larger scale). On a type D, the steering axle is behind the drivers position which requires a different thought process and visual cues to judge turns because you’re sitting forward of the steering axle. Most school bus drivers (myself included) prefer the type C but to each their own. The type C is also the most common you’d find on the road. This next bit is for the engine specifically. The MBE900 series is a very stout engine and runs very well, however the engine itself was discontinued around 2010 (with the new EPA emissions rules) the good news is that Detroit Diesel still supplies parts and service for it. Regardless, congratulations on the new bus and I hope it works out very well for you both on your conversion project, and I hope the information helps a bit. 👍

@josephbugaj8149 Рік тому
@@daveswietlik6291 I’m sure they got a pre-purchase inspection done before they bought it. A pre-purchase inspection is good to do but it doesn’t show everything. They did a pre-purchase inspection (I’m sure by a mechanic) on the Vision and it still broke down and the engine punched a hole in the block. Some things you just can’t plan for no matter how detailed you’d be in checking it out. I did a pre-purchase inspection on my bus before I bought it even though the engine was bad (the motor will be rebuilt) and I still bought it with the bad engine, and everything else on it checked out. In service, school buses are well maintained but breakdowns and mechanical mishaps still happen.

@@wyattsizemore4747 the 8.3 would be a bit of a tight fit in the engine bay of the Vision. I have seen them more-so on RE type buses.

Id take the old bus if it was in working condition, just seems like the better option imo.

You're old bus was a wheelchair usable bus, that's why it had a very large door, it housed a lift onto the bus or an elevator for people in wheel chairs.

Smart move ditching the Bluebird. Hate to admit it but the Cummins 6.7 has proven to be rather troublesome. The Mercedes-Benz is a fantastic engine!👍❤💯

I have a feeling the odometer on the new bus had been rolled back, but still a great video nonetheless!!!

After E-begging all that money for the new bus they didn't even have a mechanic look over it before they purchased it. They literally said "The seller was a mechanic and he said it was good to go so we didn't need another mechanic to inspect it." Like... how dumb can you be. It's like saying "yeah we were gonna get it looked at but the seller said 'trust me bro it's good' so I guess we don't need to get it inspected". I guess it doesn't matter when someone else is paying for it. Jesus Christ. I hope Noone gives them money when this one explodes.

My personal opinion of being a coachbuilder the old one is way better. It's easier to work on due to the engine set up. Yes it's smaller but you don't have to bother designing around the wheel wells which can be a bastard of a job. Overall I would pick the old one due to ease of servicing and modification ability
