Prior to the bubble we saw teams take months off of not playing. This would disadvantage any teams that made trades that year at the deadline from building synergy on the court. A healthy Lakers, Nuggets or even Celtics probably beat them that year if AD, Murray and Brown weren't injured as well. And those injuries probably don't happen if it wasn't post covid with a super short rushed season that led to that many injuries. To me, the luckiest titles are the lockout ones because it's different than most the other teams in history. '99 Spurs were considered lucky until they proved they could win under normal circumstances. The '12 Heat seemed lucky too, but that went away quick when they went right back to the finals the next year. '20 was lucky. AD has consistently been injured a lot his whole career whenever it's a regular NBA season. In '20 that 3-4 month rest obviously made a difference cause damn near every single other normal season, something on him breaks. Only times I think injuries should be possibly considered lucky is when it happens when you're clearly winning a series, an injury happens, then all of sudden you're clearly losing a series.

Fixating on one basket and calling it luck negates all the baskets that kept teams close enough to be in position to capitalize on that luck. I think variance gets confused with luck a lot. Professionals will shoot a shot, sometimes it will go in, sometimes it won't. A lot of the skill is about minimizing variance where you can & compounding an overwhelming amount of successful results to increase your chances. A singular shot going in, or not going in isn't lucky for the person who receives the positive outcome, it's an isolated result within a sea of results; it was potentially just at a more high profile moment. If every result is luck for a team, is any result luck? If every result is luck for a team, is there a point to honing your craft? If every result is luck for a team, has anyone ever TRULY earned a championship?

You really don't understand, do you? Instead of discrediting the Lakers for winning the 2020 championship in the bubble, you must point that mistakes to Adam Silver and his executives who were responsible for making the decision to continue the 2020 NBA season at the bubble. Blame that to them and blame it on COVID-19 because this virus made it worst for everyone. It stopped by how our world normally works. Before COVID-19 happens, the Lakers was already the number 1 seed in the NBA. They got all the home court advantage. And it would benefit to them because of the home court advantage they have. They still can win it even without COVID because they were the better team out of the qualified playoff teams in the NBA at that time. Back to the bubble thing, it wasn't Lakers fault if they win it. All the 16th qualified playoff teams at that time both in the West and the East, only followed the rules of Adam Silver and his executives to continue that season. Because if that's the case that the 2020 Lakers championship had an asterisk, then Adam Silver should mindful and logical enough to continue that season not in the bubble but how NBA games normally played before the COVID. He must continue it in the NBA home and away games despite the presence of COVID-19 in the area of each NBA arena so that arrogant, bullshit, prideful, and stubborn fans will not put any asterisk about it. My question now for you, if the Miami Heat won that series in the 2020 NBA championship bubble, would you still have the same complaints or the same asterisk ✳️ as what the Lakers received it since winning that championship 🏆? What if the Clippers win it all, would you still have the same negative comment or negative evaluation as to how they won it? Or the Lakers just won it at that time because it was Lebron winning it, you know why? Because whenever Bron won anything or loss in a game, whatever the circumstances people still hate him. Whatever he do, whether it be good or bad, people still hate him. If Kawhi, Jimmy Butler or the other playoff team won it in the bubble, they will never hate them.

One thing I realized after the KD and giannis part: luck isn't always a deciding factor, but when luck is involved, it can definitely swing a series a different direction. If either kyrie or harden doesn't go down, maybe game 7 isn't even as close at it was. If giannis doesn't get hurt, maybe Miami doesn't build up steam against a hurt bucks team. If jj's teammate makes that layup in game 2, maybe magic are able to force more games, a more competitive series, going home 1-1 instead of 0-2. Even Klay getting hurt in 2019. It was at the end of the series, but maybe, if Klay doesn't go down, warriors force a game 7. How that game goes in Toronto, idk, but that injury was a dagger to the dub's remaining spirit that night no doubt

How people choose to view sports is always fascinating, especially when bias is involved. A very recent example is this: In last year's NBA playoffs, the Nuggets swept the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. If you didn't watch a single game or look at a box score, a sweep would probably suggest to you that one team completely dominated the other. However, no team consistently competed with the Nuggets for an entire series than the Lakers did. All 4 games were decided in the final minutes and the Lakers had a legitimate shot to win 3 of them if one or two things had gone their way. So as it relates to what JJ is talking about, the difference between winning and losing a game, a series, and even a championship often comes down to singular moments. You can hypothetically get swept in the Finals having lost every single game by a buzzer-beater... does that mean the other team is better? Does it mean you got destroyed because it was a sweep? Or did it just come down to whether one shot went in or not? Or whether a ref overturned a call or not. So "luck" is whatever, but I think it's more important that people who discuss sports should be honest with themselves and not just make assumptions based on results, ESPECIALLY if you didn't even watch.

When people want to discredit the bubble title it’s not that the Lakers got lucky per se, it’s that the season just wasn’t an NBA season. You don’t normally get a ton of rest before the playoffs, which help aging and brittle players like Lebron/AD. You don’t normally play in neutral arenas. The home/away crowds affect how role players perform. Then on top of that there was no competition that year in the playoffs. The young nuggets and an underdog injured Heat team. Yes, every championship can have an asterisk when you break it down. But the bubble just felt like it wasn’t a real playoffs or finals.

If i have to chose, its the bucks 2021 run. Beat an out of form heat with butler not his playoff self. Barely beat a nets team missing 2/3 of their best players. Faced a hawks team that had no business being in a conf finals. Then beat a suns team who also lucked themselves on the way to the finals. Giannis also unexplicably hitting his free throws consistently and hitting fade away jumpers in the finals. Both finalist runs were flukey af. The suns were dominant all reg season, but faced injured teams and relied heavily on CP3. The bucks were the same, dominant all reg season, but faced either injured or weak teams. I don’t think it gets mentioned enough how lucky the Raptors were in 2019. Lebron left so they had a clear shot in the East. Kawhi signed a one-year deal to go there because SA wouldn’t trade him to LA. Kawhi has one of the all-time great playoff runs with a squad that was good and had veterans but could never get past Lebron. He hits numerous insanely wild and lucky jumpers to win games. Then they meet the warriors WITH KD but their chemistry is off because it’s clear KD is leaving. He’s also just coming off an achilles tear. He comes back early and tears it again in game 5 and then the warriors manage to get to a game six on curry’s insane play only to have Klay go down with an Achilles injury despite having one of his classic “Game 6 Klay” games. A destroyed warriors team managed to take them to six games. Then Kawhi leaves, they disband the team essentially and they haven’t had much success since. Really was an INSANE stretch of luck.

I mean Ray Allen's shot was luck, kyrie and love out for the finals was luck for the GSW, Ron Artest 3 to seal the game in the finals was luck, you need a bit of luck to go along with your skillsets. Not having Garnet was crucial for the Boston Celtics and probably would've worn out both teams more vs the cavs. We can keep going with the what ifs. What happened, happened. Simple.

I understand the sentiment, by definition tho, those things are lucky, I think a better way to put it is just luck is also part of the game and shouldn’t be held against anyone.

I wouldn't say a shot is lucky, but injuries aren't part of the game is a much as "nah, you're goin a bit wild. Sprained ankle, you gotta sit for 2 weeks lil bro." It's just unfortunate luck. Sometimes bad training as with an Embiid constantly being hurt every year as if it's actually his full time job and basketball is what he has to do when he's on vacation. I'd asterisk injuries but not a fluke shot.

The Lakers weren't lucky that Courtney Lee missed the layup. They were lucky that Pau wasn't called for goaltending
