HE kind of rickrolled them indirectly by using dialogues like "I thought my phone was letting me down" and "I thought my phone was running around and deserted me."

To be fair, the given problem is so incredibly simple, that most technicians would think there's a bigger fault at hand. Things that need to take a charge is one of the most common things nowadays, that it's almost a given for them to be recharged at a certain point.

I've only ever needed to contact one company before, about an issue I couldn't solve myself. That was Microsoft, and I had an issue with my Surface keyboard, and they handled it excellently. They even offered to do a swap for a new one for free.

Everyone of them was definitely like "I just talked to the dumbest guy in the universe" after they hung up 😂

Thank you for a great post. Even though the issue presented was unrealistic, dealing with customer service remains a HUGE dissatisfier every time I have to deal with a CSR. I recently had a flurry of run ins with Samsung customer service. Although it felt like the rep's left their brains at home, the truth of the matter is, most companies fail miserably at synergizing their various departments effectively and don't engage in proper employee training & empowerment.

Being a Samsung Order Support in my previous job, I can definitely answer that concern by just asking right the questions. Almost everyone that has a phone would know what's the situation. But yeah, most of the reps are Department-specific driven meaning even if they know the answer, they'd still hand you over to the right department that should answer your question. Also, I can tell that you're just playing up with me. Lol

Wow this is so relevant to the week I've just had. Two weeks ago we moved our elderly mother to another apartment in the same building. The new apartment was right across the hallway. We called ATT to switch her phone and informed them this was a medical concern since we helped our mother via phone every evening to accomplish some medical steps. We were assured the phone line would be moved. It never was but they did manage to disconnect the old line however I spent hours on the phone trying to get the service moved to her new apartment. I had one immediately send me to the beginning of the line after I started to explain the problem. Finally, since ATT can't move phone service across the hall we went with another carrier and had the phone line set up withing an hour. Not much ever gets me upset but both my husband and I cringe if we ever have to call or make any changes with ATT. They are the worst!

You had very good luck! I usually can't get to speak to a real person at all. The poor customer service is not limited to tech companies either. Also, if they do have a phone number, the message says "We are experiencing unusually high volumes" regardless of when I call!

I work in customer service and suggesting simple stuff like there is no battery left actually offends some customers. Also some would even deny it and say something like "NO, there is battery - i looked just 1 minute ago and it was 8%". Battery can go from 8% to 0 in one minute if its an old battery and its cold outside for example

I'm pretty convinced that "It all depends on the person"

As someone who worked at Geek Squad, I can tell you that some of these people are overthinking the issue because they can't comprehend that someone would be stupid enough to think a battery would last three years without a charge.

The oppo representative actually had a point. Theres a setting that tursns off your device at a predesignated time everyday. Plus almost everyone knows about the battery draining everyday in 2021. I feel as if thst guy deserves the most credit out of all of them

So I live in Germany and as often as I called Xiaomi Support (because I have Xiaomi only) they were always friendly and none of the calls were 8 minutes long. Very quick. Sometimes I even got two options which I could choose, and that's a huge + for me.

The fact that he had to use subtitles so his viewers could understand most of these reps says something about the state of customer service in the modern era

Honestly I think the issue was so silly that they refused to consider it.

I work with machine building companies that would wish their products have only half the connectivity of a smartphone and they are still able to scan their machines for errors or defects the moment someone calls. How come the support of the big tech companies arent doing a scan to sort out possibly hardware, software or setting errors?

I remember back in the 90s and dealing with customer service. They would always ask you to check the simplest things. My computer wont start... have you checked that the electrical plug is connected?... I don't have internet. .. have you checked that your phone line is connected to the back of the pc? I think they can start there with phones now. Start simple.
