Tyler, the Creator introduced us to a brand new era with nothing but a number, 855 444 8888. When I first saw this, I could tell that Tyler was looking to explore a new ego or character, to channel creativity with his music.
But that brings us the question who is Tyler Baudelaire, who is this new Italian travelling persona that we’re adventuring with through Call Me if You Get Lost?
In this video I will explain who I think who Tyler Baudelaire is. What his impact is on Tyler, the Creator's life and what he is trying to communicate with us throughout the symbolism in this album.

Anyone ever noticed how Flower Bow, Igor, and CMIYGL is essentially a new trilogy? I’m calling it The Love Trilogy. It all stems from Flower Boy, and then Igor and CMIYGL are different perspectives of love triangles.

@@abeultra cherry bomb feels like the transitional period between these two eras (or trilogies in this case). Personally, I think that it sounded so distorted and weird, because Tyler was trying to explore his softer feelings and ideas, much like in flower boy, while still trying to appeal to fans of the original trilogy (Bastard, Goblin and Wolf) thus resulting in this weird abomination of sound that is Cherry Bomb. Still love that album tho.

Baudelaire was also a renown romantic, famous for his grandiose but bleak depictions of love and hapiness, and thus Tyler might have taken his name to emphasize his feelings of what his youth and cherry bomb could have been. Plus, Baudelaire was a notorious drug addict (les paradis artificiels,...) and saw drugs and sex as an escape (almost the only escape) from his sad 19th century reality. Tyler said something about avoiding drugs as much as he could in interviews and public discussions (like the one with converse) as he feared them, he doesn't want them to rule his life.

@@ConverseWithMe Charles Baudelaire's most famous work is "Fleurs du Mal" (Flowers of the evil), a poem compilation (missing the exact English word lol) of poems divided into multiples sections. He was one of the first to write poetry about "not noble" things like death, ugliness or humain vice. Like, he has a whole poem in which he compares a dead animal's body to a young woman (Une Charogne). Because he wrote about themes outside of traditional peotry, Baudelaire got sued and had to remove multiple poems (2 of those including lesbian stuff) In "Fleurs du Mal", Baudelaire tries to escape from "spleen" and to find an "ideal",, notably through drugs and alcohol which allowed him to access "artificial paradises" (paradis artificiels in French)

honestly, as a rap fan this is his best album. I think it’s interesting analyzing different audiences and demographics who listen to this album and where they rank it. a lot of pop lovers always put IGOR at the top but tbh I think this shows so much in terms of versatility in producing, composing, singing, rapping and just creative imagery in general.

Tbh I was a huge Tyler / OF fan when Yonkers dropped and for the buzzing years that followed. I didn't really understand Bastard when it dropped, at least the concept of it. I knew it was creative but it more or less seemed like a silly way to wrap the project up with skits. I didn't really understand the underpinnings that made the album so unique until years later and albums later. I didn't pay as close attention to what Tyler was doing but I would still tune in. Now after all these years I understand that Tyler is about as close to a method rapper (like a method actor) that I have seen in years. He uses these characters to show off different parts of himself and it's through the contrast with his public persona, his character, AND his ACTUAL self that fans connect to him. It's really interesting to think about and I wonder if Tyler had this sort of grand plan imagined all the way back when OF was still one young group of artists or if it's more so something that developed as he experimented with different sounds. Either way with this album and Tyler's consistent track record he's proven himself over and over again at being whole heartedly deserving the title of 'artist'. I love that Tyler doesn't show fear in experimenting with different sounds and imagery with his projects but leans into these characters and aesthetics. All the while he plays these roles you can tell that Tyler is still himself all along. It's not an easy feat to accomplish for any artist to even flirt with these different styles without the public perception of the artist themselves changing and not the thing that they are making. I hope that makes sense. Basically I'm saying Tyler is a bit of a genius.

Great vid, dude. As a long time Tyler fan since the Goblin/OFWGKTA/Loiter Squad days, I can say with confidence that there has not been a more relatable and inspirational collection of music that has come from Tyler than this most recent one. Of course, everything that preceded CMIYGL built the foundation for the magnitude of the record to be what it was, but this really showcases Tyler's prominence as an artist in a comprehensive way. He's not only become a beautiful lyricist, but also producer and person. It's truly an honor to live in a time where we can witness this growth.

This album came out for me at such an amazing time considering a few days before "Call me If You Get Lost" dropped I started my journey traveling the world :) Really good video Converse With Me

@@itzalayahzworld4199 best story telling imo. I think this is the definition of story telling in a song.

i think that all of tylers work has always been amazing and yes call me if you get lost was the best, but flower boy is where he really "blossomed" ;)

This is my favorite album after Igor which is still his magnum opus. You can tell Tyler grew a lot over the last couple of years and CMIYGL is a mix of bragging about his success and the beauty that it is to grow and to explore the world. That being said the album is more disorganized than Igor, maybe because it's not a story but a mix of thoughts and idea packed into an album?
