Whoopi did NOT make more sense! First, cicada is correctly pronounced both ways: suh-cay-duh AND suh-cah-duh. Second, the coming cicada emergence does NOT happen every 17 years, in that both the 13 year cicada AND the 17 year cicada are emerging this year. Given that 13 and 17 are both prime numbers, this double emergence only happens once every 221 years!

Dear Sunny, there are 4 eclipses every year, they're just not always on our side of the planet, or over our continent. Reminder, less than 30% of the sphere of earth is land. An eclipse happens every time the orbit of the moon crosses the "ecliptic" which is the orbital plane of the earth around the sun. Also, different species of Cicada emerge at different intervals.
