One of Richards childhood close friend from El Paso described him as having a good heart, a sweet boy, a calm one and he was always smiling and being energetic. He told a story saying that one time his neighbour “a girl” started hitting Richie and fighting him when they were little, Richie didn’t do anything back and his friend asked him why didn’t you hit her back, he said: Because I love her, I can’t hit her. He was never born evil, He was a lost soul, lost into the darkness with nobody caring to save him. He had a traumatic childhood besides him suffering continuous concoctions to his head which were never treated and that damaged his thinking and ability of emotions later on in life. Let’s not forget the acid and heavy drugs he started using and the impact the have on a person already ill. He lost hope in love and happiness and fell into the darkness.. May he rest in peace, I hope and pray in another life for him. Only God can judge him because only God knows what was really in his head and heart and what REALLY went through in his life. So Grace is with the children. However there is evidence to suggest that certain brain scans reflect part of the brain (Amygdala) are very small or absent (determining empathy, fear etc). This doesn't necessarily make one to go out and kill, but I think if one is born this way, and you couple it with childhood trauma, these people would have a higher propensity to kill. I really believe it was the neurological and environmental factors that created the mindset for Richard Ramirez. The epilepsy, the constant verbal and physical abuse, the negative and often violent influences of his family, and his eventual downward spiral into drug addiction were the catalysts that created the perfect storm. His parents should have been arrested and he should've been in a loving home, but who knows if that would have changed things or not. What Ramirez did was beyond the pale and though you can feel empathy for the child, what he did as an adult was heinous, vile, and fully his responsibility.

Ramirez is not such a tough dude. Evil sure, but one has to remember that his victims were asleep and he would have not taken on someone who could fight him back. I find it really hilarious how his downfall came. He tried to jack a car in the wrong hood. As the story goes, when the owner who was 57 years old saw him, Ramirez said "Please don't come near, I have a gun". The man coming from a tough hood saw no gun on him. So, he then opens the door of the car, literally snatches Ramirez's skinny ass out of it, and delivers the first punch. Then some other dude threw a pipe on his head. Before he knows it, the entire block was on him like he was a runaway slave. He got his ass kicked so badly, that when the cops finally showed up, Ramirez begged to be arrested. When you look at it, its really ironic to see that he was a coward, and that his own people would have murdered him more savagely than he did his victims, if only them cops decided to look the other way

In that hot summer of 85' I was awakend to our dogs going crazy in the middle of the night. I was 16 staying at my Aunt's house for the Summer in Mission Viejo. Never before had I heard our dogs bark and yelp as they did that night. As I got out of bed and walked towards the back window of my bedroom, I paused and thought to myself " what if it's him out there". Then, said to myself "no way, this is Mission Viejo". I slid the window open and called out to our 3 dogs, shhhhhing them to quite down,;They finally did, and I closed the window and returned to bed. It was really unusually hot, and I was just trying to fall back asleep after this strange outburst from the dogs. The next morning I woke up to police and sheriff squad cars all the way up our street. The news stations were all out there too. It was "him". I will never forget that night. Way too close for comfort! I'm glad that evil bastard was caught right after this, and is now dead.

Its suppose to show the fear and horror that Ramirez created amongst the community. It showed why law enforcement had a hard time finding out that one man was robbing, raping, killing, and shooting. It showed the stress that Ramirez put a lot of people under for a year and few months. I believe they briefly touched on Ramirez's youth.
