Not true 5G is deployed in low band and mid band so you don't need to be close to the cell tower to get decent speeds. When you using 5G high band than you'll have to be close to a relay/node inorder to access gigabits per second connection. So 5G will be much flexible when all bands are 100% available

The argument you are making is the same one that people made when we used 3G and we're transitioning to LTE. At the time 3G was sufficient. Smartphones and the things we did on them didn't require fast internet speeds. Yet, as time went on and infrastructure was built out for LTE new companies were made and devices became able to do more things. Basically what I'm getting at is that there are plenty of use cases that will require the extra speed that 5G brings that are not possible with current data limitations of LTE
