@@zsoltlukacs8438 Full trailers are 13.75 meters in Sweden, it's basically a semitrailer riding on a twin axle converter dolly. I don't think they are allowed outside Sweden but almost all domestic trucks are truck+full trailer, 24 meters, not 18.75 m. A typical trailer has 4 axles, 2 on the dolly, 2 in the rear end, 16 wheels.

@@hughjass1044 the only thing keeping Euro style from being the best is the simple fact that they aren't as streamlined and consume more fuel/energy. Give them a slight nose like those newer electric style trucks you see in America today, and you end up with almost European style cab overs in America. Modern airsuspension makes it just as comfy to drive overcab as American style, same for the chairs. So that isn't an argument anymore. So after a small styling for fuel efficiency has been done, and the modern suspension is on, Euro style trucks is the only way forward. Easy. and the simple fact that Europeans work to live, not like Americans that live to work.

Also in Brazil the regulations are similar as Europe. The max length of a truck is the body + cabin, so a larger American cabin means less space for cargo.

What about a cordless drill? Vs an impact driver? If I only could choose one...I would go for the cordless drill for the very purpose that it works "good enough" for all environments...Vs an impact driver that is specialised to that environment..as u said.

@@Change-Maker A drill excels at drilling holes and to some extent thanks to its own internal mechanisms also makes it suitable to tighten screws. (So for home use, the drill excels) Whereas an impact drivers, though not very suitable for drilling holes, it does generate 2 to 3 times more torque than a drill and it’s more suitable for quickly driving long or large screws and fasteners. So in an industrial use where there’s thousands of screws to install on a product, every second saved per screw/fastener installed adds up. May not be that relevant for home use but for industrial use, it does. (So in an industrial setting, an impact driver excels) Am I saying that a drill is more useful than a impact driver? Yeah, that’s because most of us don’t need to fasten thousands of screws per day, at most we just have to fasten a few screws a day which a drill with a screw bit can do just fine.

I made the point that by American (and obviously Australian terms) EU trucks are essentially short haul. They drive less than 400 km on any given route...where US trucks often drive from coast to coast...3500 miles + aren't unusual at all. So, the distance from London to Moscow is less than the distance from Boston, MA to St. Louis, MO 1500 miles...so, in the US if a truck is on the freeway driving 70mph, for 9 hours, he's going to go 600+ miles...less than 1/6th the distance across the US. Australia has similar distances. Short haul trucks in the US may have the long nose (but it will be significantly shorter than a long haul truck) will have very similar dimensions to that of EU style trucks.

You see cabover trucks a lot in America too for short-distance deliveries - Typically box trucks with attached cargo instead of trailers are cabovers to maneuver in city streets or suburban lots. But for the long trips between warehouses, the long trucks are well-suited for the distances between stops.

We have narrow back roads here in the US too and I’ve driven trucks on them plenty of times. The video has alot of missing details and misconceptions.

I'm an American truck driver, and get more than enough anxiety from the confined spaces we sometimes go to in the older industrial areas of our large cities, which were laid out before semis were the standard freight transport method. I wouldn't care to try running one of our trucks on European streets. Their freeways might be okay for an American rig though.

@@psychoticbob Yes, you can drive 12 hours in a full 24 hour period, but no driver who knows what he is doing would do that. You also have to keep in mind your 70 hour limit. After 70 hours on duty you have to shut down for 34 hours. If you drive 12 hours every day then after 5 days you have to shut down.

In the US you can drive for 14 hours in a 24 hour period.

Not exactly true. It's possible to drive 13 - 13.5 hrs in a 24 hr period. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I drive about 8.5 -9 hrs a day sometimes [most of the time] I just flag a pretrip about 5 minutes with one 30 minute pretrip a week. If I'm coast to coast I'll do 34 hr resets and drive 12-13 hrs a day if Midwest drop and hook weekends off I drive about 9.5 to 10.75 hrs a day if I'm just working crap I use recaps with 1 day off in a 8 day period

When I do coast to coast hauling foodgrade tankers I'd commonly drive 11-13 hrs days starting my clock 0000-0100 hrs shutdown between 0700 and 1130 and go on my way once my 10 hr or split is up (depends on delivery) by the time I'm finished I have anywhere from 1 to 22 hrs available only to do it all over again in 34 hrs

Well,I'm an owner operator driving a box truck and do lost of Amazon haulage to the post office as well as deliveries to construction sites. I've grossed 125k so far and will exceed my target of 150 k by years end. All this with a box truck.

A couple of years ago I worked as a driver for Pepsi, we only made around $22 an hour but I would see other drivers coming to work in their $60,000 pick up trucks. Crazy. Meanwhile I rocked up in my old Toyota and chose to work less by not grabbing overtime. I can tolerate driving a truck but like anything else I like a good work/life balance.

Yes, on the latest high spec European cab overs, once you have folded the steering wheel up out of the way and rotated the front seats, there is a surprising amount of room in the cab due to the flat floor and 2m/6'6" headroom. This will be improved further soon when the manufacturers start selling the trucks that meet the new cab regulations that require more cab length in front of the steering axle.

I don't think you can really claim the cab overs are as comfortable as the yankee trucks. They just have so much more room that they don't even need to squeeze every inch of floor space, they can just make things (to a degree) whatever size they think is most appropriate.

@@Matt_Alaric In american style truck you design the cabin into two section. The sleeping/living area and the driving section. In modern european style cabovers you can set that front area to be part of the living area rather quickly, so at the end you have nearly the same area to use.

Maybe it's different in Europe, but in the US, if you don't have access to a toilet, sooner or later you're going to be pretty uncomfortable.

@@krirud7193 Its more the issue of Sweden having bad integration. And immigrants end up together in "slums" I saw the same here in Norway back in the 90s when we started immigration for full. It was mayhem for a while, gang etc. But once they figured out intergration. Things have become so much better, goverment doesnt concentrate them in poor neighborhoods anymore. Goverment acutally bought my fathers neighboring house. And put some Palestinian immigrants there. The roads are not eight lane interstates they are, because of terrain and population .narrow , windy, step and frankly scary in places . You should really find out what the average performance and load of a european truck is compared to an american one.

Most American roads do not allow for trucks at that speed and have limits specifically for haul trucks. The majority of those speeds are in the place like the middle of nowhere Texas where you'll have literally 600km of straight highway.

It all depends where you're at. When I drove from California to the east coast I remember Cali trucks on I-5 had a speed limit of 55 mph. When I was traveling through Utah on I-85 I think it was 85 mph.

There is a huge difference driving a road truck and a logging truck. Honestly, I wouldn't have the balls to drive a logging truck, in the US, in Canada, or any other place in this world. Yea, driving on European roads basically makes you a much better driver(as in, more experienced with tight spaces). People don't blink if a car passes them less than 3 inches from their mirror. It's normal.

@@brownjatt21 City guy, mostly. I do the Perth to Kalgoorlie run 5 nights a week. 2up, about 1200km round trip. With the loading it works out pretty close to a 17 hour shift, give or take an hour. I'd prefer to be doing outback stuff. I've done runs in the country where I only saw one other vehicle all night. Sometimes none. And not a person in sight in any of the towns. That's my sort of night.

G'day Jeff. I'm from Perth too. I used to work at Diesel Motors trucks in kewdale years ago. I do like a long nose Freightliner with a Cummins or CAT in it. But I have noticed the technology in the Mercedes Actross or Axor (woollies trucks) for example is more advanced than an cab over Argosy. But I love the size of the extra cab in freightliners. So i like a bit from one and a bit from the other. Either one u prefer we can both agree IT COSTS A FORTUNE TO FIX ANYTHING ENGINE OR TRANNY RELATED. We also have a limit on the total car length, total weight (GVM) and the total number of excels in a car cannot exceed 7. The regulations make it impossible to operate US trucks in Tanzania, them being left-handed exacerbates the issue further. In Zambia nosed-trucks a'la Peterbilt, Kenworth and Freightliner are a common sight.

You have to completely empty out the cab every time you want to service the engine in a cab over. That's a pain in the ass a live in driver would rather not have to deal with given the choice. You also avoid the engine vibrating right beneath you.

it just make life more interesting, that there are different trucks on different markets, :-) but of course euro trucks are maximazed to fit in euro, and the same goes for us trucks, to fit on long wide open roads. But it will always be exotic to choose a strange truck, but probably never the most beneficial.

Also regarding the smaller living space in European trucks. It is illegal to make driver spend their weekly rest (45 hours, with ability to shorten to 24 hours every second week) in their cab. Thus the cab need not be equipped for living on it for days on end as normal living space. Employer must provide hotel room or other acceptable level accommodation for the weekly rest, if the driver is not able to take said rest at their home. The European sleeper cab is just for daily the sleeping rests between driving. It shall not be the drivers second home.

Agree! But statistically European Trucks are involved in less accident than US I believe is 4 to 1. From a simple scratch to a mayor collision, this is due to more technology and regulations. Also people respect and drive better than in the us, they have something called curves lol some trucks have features such as automatic brake technology in case u fall to sleep or someone stop in front of you. Automatic transmission make a huge difference at the beginning I used to hate it but is like butter so relaxing and practical, almost all of the trucks have 600-700hp. Any European truck could make it to us but not the other way around. But personally usa trucks are better because service is easier 9 vs 12 hrs is a huge difference at the end of the week.

I had few friend who were truck drivers in europe and try their luck in USA.. but everything is different..you have stock market where truckers compete who will do it more cheaply and faster delivery ...so they never go home..they sleep in truck and always on the road ,drive all day..so one back after just one month..other friend manage 6 months but it taked such heavy tool on him that he dont want to see truck anymore in life ,he even sold a car becase he was so tired off driving..now he drives motorcycle

Actually if you were driving a cabover scania your in the very safest cab of any truck on the market including American conventional truck s no major accident is somthing anybody want s but from my time driving for scania I. England back in the sixties iv seen first hand cabs have sheared of the chassis and been thrown hundred feet from point of impact and driver's survived

In their own way they have become classic cars. People put a lot of time and effort into restoring them for show or as a hobby. Ever since the pandemic hit however I saw an increasingly large number of older cabovers on the roads pulling freight. I suspect that the supply chain issues also mend a shortage on newer tractor trailers, so people started pressing the significant number of remaining cabovers back into service.

Russia also has a mix of conventional and cab-over trucks, though the American style trucks are mostly seen beyond the Ural Mountains (Siberia etc.). European style trucks are much more common elsewhere.

Since 1 kg is approximately 2.2 lbs, Imperial tons (also known as short tons), if one of those is 2000 lbs, one metric ton is obviously about ten percent more than an imperial ton, but they are at least in the same ballpark. Approximately the same difference as metres vs. yards (1 yd = 0.91 metres, approximately), but that's probably a coincidence… There's also something called a long ton or English ton, which is much closer to the metric ton: 1 long ton = 1.016047 metric ton, or 2240 lbs, so a tiny bit heavier than the metric ton.

@@TruckTropia Look for the Finnish HCT (High Capacity Transport). There's been 106 ton trucks, but 76t is "standard" for HCT.

Here in Finland, usually Long noses are from Russia. (haven't seen any in 1 year...) There are some hobbyists with Scania long noses that use them commercially. But they are very few. Majority have been Russians with Freightliners or Peterbilts.

@@SergeyPRKL I was gonna say, the only long nose trucks i saw were from Russia with license plates from Siberia. Probably imported used trucks from the USA.

Mechanics hate cabovers. It is much easier to work on an engine when all you have to do is pull the hood up. Some hoods can be detached. With a cab over you are always in an awkward cramped space.

The first several trucks I drove, starting in the mid-'70s, were cab-overs. They're easier to maneuver in tight areas, but they ride much harder. You're sitting directly above the front axle and all that pounding down the road comes straight up into the seats. Regarding the care necessary when raising the cab, a friend of mine missed a small metal box when he secured the cab before tilting it up to work on the engine. It startled everyone in the shop when that box dropped straight through the windshield. The boss was NOT happy about that little whoops!!

@@francoistombe as a mechanic in Europe I have to disagree, I can pull the whole engine together with the gear box in less than 2h, and modern eu trucks have electric cab lift

Was a diesel mechanic in the army for ten years. Some cabovers arent so bad, if the cab is on a hinge, they are actually really easy.

@@ATEC101 Tie stuff down so it won't fly around on breaking, collisions or when flipping the cab to get under it.

Why scary braking? Because it feels like you are tipping over because of the high seat position?

@@Mike-oz4cv Yes, You are sitting high up on an air suspension seat inside an air suspension cab that is often sitting on top of an air suspended steering axle. All of which means that under heavy breaking there can be a lot of movement. It can be disconcerting but once you are used to it, it really isn't a problem. With cab overs you get used to having normally a really comfortable ride, but you can get thrown about a little occasionally.

You must've driven up and down north America all over in that much time. What's your favorite route or section of a highway?

In Scandinavian we also have 25meters combinations, as well as 60 tons or even higher

@@olepedersen5420 yeah, I'm seen them, very impressive. They have doubles in Spain as well, but only on certain routes.

@@olepedersen5420 Yes, but this large truks aren't allowed to drive overall. In germany they maybee can not drive overall because the most bridges are made for 40 tons trucks. And our old bridges may not be able to carry a lot of this big trucks at the same time. Therefore the "gigaliner" (trucks with 60 tons) are not generally allowed in germany at the moment.

And there was nothing to protect you if you got into an accident and you were the one getting your nose crunched. That long nose does help keep drivers safe if an accident like that happens.

@@CreeplayEU trucker is still going to get hurt. And not every four wheel driver out there is innocent. A lot of them will cut rigs off, brake check them, try to hide in blindspots. Those of us that are responsible and safety minded commercial drivers do everything we can to avoid an accident. But sometimes things are out of our hands because they happen too quickly to safely react to. So please, before you try to speak on what commercial drivers have to deal with, spend some time in our seats and see the sheer amount of bad driving out there.

I am originally from California, lived there for the past 50 years, I now live in the Midwestern State of Michigan (moved this year). Physically and economically California is huge, it is whole other country within the United States of America. And physically Texas is even bigger; I have never been to Alaska bit I can only imagine how immense it is

but the european ones are generally more comfortable, easier and less tiresome to drive. American trukers accept to suffer more for the looks and 'looking cool'

I prefer the European ones especially Scania trucks because I like the grill design on them.

I remember my reaction when playing ATS and buying one of the fancier MACK trucks, looking back to see it had a microwave oven in the cabin.
